The Virginia Living Museum has over 250 species of animals and plants found throughout Virginia. It is one of our favorite places to explore. I wish every city had their own living museum with native animals and plants!
• 100+ species of fish and aquatic invertebrates call the Virginia Living Museum home.
“Most of the mammals and birds on exhibit could not survive in the wild because they were either injured, orphaned or born in captivity.” -VLM
They have several endangered & threatened species:
• Shortnose Sturgeon - Federally Endangered
• Blackbanded Sunfish - State Endangered
• Loggerhead Sea Turtle - Federally Threatened
• Red Wolf - Federally Endangered
• Eastern Chicken Turtle - State Endangered
• Eastern Tiger Salamander - State Endangered
• Canebrake Rattlesnake - State Endangered
• Wood Turtle - State Threatened

Amazing living museum! It reminds me of my childhood when I had an aquarium at home. I always liked animals like Fish, but, also, Crabs and Snails. So nice to see them! Thanks for sharing! Have a great new week!

hi Jacquelyn, this is awfully fascinating stuff to watch. your footage reminds me of an old idea to take my camera and go down to the nearest zoo and film the animals there, although I realise it's not the same thing as this living museum. yet, seeing this I think I should...one of these days. thanks for sharing this. all the best, Jacques

Thank you very much Jacques! I appreciate that! Initially I didn’t want to film animals in captivity but have changed my mind on it - depending on the organization. I’ve learned just as much from the captive animals as I have the wild ones. I say go for it! I’m looking forward to what you come up with if you do😊
