It's very sad for her little girl, though, to have such a mother.
I know this is fairly old, I really wonder how these preppers reacted towards covid and the impacts it had. That would be an interesting follow up.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing I think a lot of people Wonder that... I can't believe many or most of these people don't have some sort of Channel! I bet a lot of them have TH-cam channels! I mean why wouldn't they especially if they used being in one of these episodes as a way to jump start a channel!

Some are a bit odd but having a few months of food, water and firearms/ammo should be normal. Grew up with the saying "better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it" getting tossed around a lot and i think the China flu showed a lot of people that it wasn't a bad thing to be ready for something like a natural disaster. Huge difference between being paranoid and being prepared.

@@bigballs935 I'd teach my kid certain skills in progression of age, maybe a week after their birthday teach them something new of survival. So that in time they slowly learn because a child of that age shouldn't learn how to use a gun, because if that child kills someone I can only imagine the mental damage it would do. I'd just teach my children how to hide and where to go if something happens.
@@anonymousfortunes2970 completely reasonable! Not everything they teach these kids is crazy either. Basic first aid, fire arm safety (and like you said that could be as simple as “don’t touch em”) how to call 911 and what to say, stuff like this is valuable in society and in an “end of the world” scenario they love to theorize about
@@bigballs935 I can't imagine giving a little kid a gun because I can only see that ending in a possible friendly fire, or that incident where that little kid accidentally shot and killed a military sergeant who accidentally flipped it to go full auto.
EDIT: kids make mistakes it's how they grow.. lets not have that mistake be shooting a friend or family member

@@perculated7666 A good deal of that is just the producers trying to 'sell the drama'... pretty much a staple of American entertainment (normal is boring, that's why Tinder is 'so interesting'). There are a bunch of things that simply being prepared intersects with, like gardening and first aid.
There's the basic doctrine of 'beans, band-aids, and bullets'.

I really respect these documentaries because they DO answer the "what ifs" and teach techniques of living off the land sometimes. I just feel bad for the individuals who feel the need to live and die by this kind of lifestyle. Sure become a multimillionaire and build a spare bunker, but don't trade a house and normal life for your family.
I don't know about that. Most of these families look pretty darn close and they seem to enjoy prepping together. It seems like they aren't missing a thing about the so-called "normal life."
Sure they don't have an annual trip to Disney but kids can actually survive without Mickey Mouse.

What is a normal life lol? 9-5 rat race? and being a consumerist? ... or being self reliant and self sufficient and having your own land, etc... yes i know what i would rather have.

The canned food might still be good after 25 years. BUT, once you break the seal on the jar, like he did, (and put it back on shelf) all bets are off. It's now deteriorating and getting contaminated.

Unless you live you extremely rural, imo the best prep is to prepare to be mobile, and have several options, with traveling on foot expected, roads and highways will be easily jammed up so a dirt bike, atv etc may be a good option
Atv is a need definitely. But also a bicycle for local it's quiet. Many have chosen this van life and rv but when life changes..other laws kick in. Crossing states will be like crossing countries. No papers..going to the camps.
Sure, use an ATV. Attract attention to yourself.

The 'dash kit' is something every family in Florida that I know of has. We have a little more time with Hurricanes, usually. But that is no excuse to be unprepared. Actually, it's the reverse.

One big thing a lot of these people don’t think about, is if you wanna throw up a few cameras around your compound. I’d definitely suggest that you make them as unnoticeable as absolutely possible.. If you see cameras that typically would mean that there’s something worth protecting and likely worth trying to take away from another if there’s a opportunity to do so..
Not always, camera have become common place today. Over half the country has some sort of security system in place and cameras are one of the most popular options.

That family house looks like a fire hazard! Also, all of that paper-packaged food (bags of grain) is ripe for spoilage (damp, rodents, insects, tears and spillage). Waste.
Also, the father’s countenance suggests that he should be spending more focus on his health, so he can survive long enough to see his daughter reach adulthood.

Doug was actually a family friend- I was a part of the groups he taught! Some people commented on him raising a child army, that was me lol. He was a surprisingly good guy. Terrifying, don't get me wrong, but he's incredibly intelligent. Much less scary when he's eating dinner with your family. Bryan is actually my dad! We spent a lot of time with Doug over the years.
Seems like a groomer / pred to me. My kid wouldn't be going anywhere near that ranch.

I think some of these extreme preppers have OCD or are addicted to the the feeling of fear and danger. They also seem to enjoy scaring their kids.

Chemical imbalances send dreams as well. Odds are the dream stems from some type of childhood trauma. Which is more likely? I would think if God talked to her about preparing, he'd first talk to her about getting in shape. Not trying to be rude but, you gotta be at least semi realistic.
Living in a city and planning on bugging in is a death sentence. Roving gangs would be going door to door to find supplies in city area's.

While I agree we will face a major recession or even depression this is taking things to a new level. More stuff than I leaned in army. My prep is bug out bag. So I can survive for 3 days max without food and water.

half of the U.S. is living in tents on the streets, the consumption of drugs and anti-depessiva is on an all time high and rising. just because some algorithms keep the stock market going it doesnt mean that the situation has gotten better. i'm not a prepper, but those ppl are not completly nuts. claiming that everything runs well is nuts.

You have to wonder then, where is the air intake and exhaust?? That's going to be the Achilles heel of these "super secure" bunkers. It probably wouldn't be hard to find a bunker, unless they filter the exhaust air too. Think about it, they will be cooking food, and not taking baths that often, you'll be able to smell them from a 1/4 mile away, especially if the wind is right
