They were just so cool looking, and it was about the time Ford started putting V8s in cars. The music wasn't that bad either. I can picture it in a speakeasy.

There were less people divided. A lot less degeneracy. People socialized more, had better manners. Cleaner streets. Nicer cars with real leather seats. Products that lasted longer. Better food because it was actual more natural. They didn’t have to deal with microplastics. People had their flaws like racism or sexism. But compared to now? We are a huge mess as a society.

HERE ARE SOME AWESOME fun facts:
Somebody actually identified the people in the car at 2:21.
The car was registered in 1911 in NYC. The name of the owner was the Lochwicz family. The family lived at 548, Eighth Street. The car was an E-M-F 30 touring car. The father called Florian Lochwicz
They had 3 kids, and you can see the servant as well.
The father was born in Prussia, in 1871 and he came to the US in 1890. The wife, Antoinette Lochwicz was his cousin and she was born in NYC. They were most probably cousins. Antoinette`s /the wife`s/ father escaped from Poland from the January Uprising in 1860s and settled down in New York City.
Florian owned a lot of barber shops in New York, and he died in 1918. His death was published in many papers, leaving 5 children behind.

In fact most average people didn't own cars until the 1920s. That video in the 1900s section was actually a clip from the late 1910s-early 1920s, because if you pay close enough attention, the cars are Ford Model T's, which didn't become mainstream until the mid-1910s.

Even the 1940-50s was starting to look very like roads and signing you see today. There is certainly no difference between roads today and in the 1990s... except maybe traffic lights arbitrarily put in places where they're not needed and slow everything down (I know there are extensive new roads put in all the time, those are needed due to population increases and the character of the roads isn't changing).

@@monkyfunny2171 I know at least the New York footage where the car was following the camera and surrounding shots isn’t. That was from 1911 and horses still dominated traffic. The “1900s” footage look mostly from post WW1 to the early 20s to me.
And these are from the cities remember. In what was left of the nearly extinct American Frontier, cars would be a rare sight pre-WW1. Accomplishments like the first transcontinental Lincoln “Highway” and mass production of the Model T in 1913 would change that soon however.
I’ve had elders from the retirement manor talk to me how their parents told them stories about this transportation revolution of the 1910s and the disappearance of the American Frontier. They themselves told stories about the desperate times of the Dirty Thirties.

Now people film everything, most of the time to earn money or to defame someone without any respect for the filmed ones. Before it was fun, now it's money. 2020: i wonder if people were safer with cars back in 19- 1920: *ROAD IS ROAD.*

    • @paulbrower4265
      @paulbrower4265 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

The speeds are higher -- but
      1. the roads are far better. I'll take any expressway over the lightly-traveled roads of the 1920's. Even the old roads from the time have often gotten safer due to widening, banking, and realignments that smooth the curves. Add to this, we have better warning signs.
      2. drivers are better. We have licensing requirements that effectively keep idiots off the road (the written tests are effectively intelligence tests easy for people of average intelligence to pass, but tough for dummies). Teenagers who do drive must first take drivers' education that impresses upon them the dangers of bad driving. People can lose licenses for really bad driving, but that is my third point.
      3. traffic-law enforcement is far more effective. Cops have radar guns and know how to detect drunk and drugged drivers. Cops have Breathalyzer devices to nail those who drive boozed up. DUI laws are real.
      4. pedestrians have been trained to cross streets at crosswalks in accordance with traffic lights. Pedestrians and bicyclists do get ticketed.
      5. the cars are safer! Safety glass came into existence in the 1930's so that it is far harder for people to get thrown through windshields to get fatal injuries from glass that lacerates people at the vulnerable throat. Seat belts save lives. So do padded dashboards, collapsible steering columns, reinforcing bars, and crumpling bodies that take the impact. Even radios tend to reduce the chance of someone falling asleep while driving.

@@automotivelucas, there have always been road rules in America. Even since horse pulled buggies. The laws became more strict and more enforced not due to the advancement of motor vehicles but due to the increase in their use. More cars equals more need for regulation. Those cars in 1900 could reach pretty high speeds even to today’s standards.
