      WTH the GOP is trying to hold the debt ceiling!!! The Democrats are flexing a little but the WH is screaming ZERO debt ceiling!!!! Have you even been listening to the whole argument? Katie Porter is a democrat fully funded by the money laundering ActBlue machine. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are saying but Katie is actually SUPPORTING the GOP stance to hold the debt ceiling against the wishes of the WH. in spite of the fact she is a democrat! She may have been dumbing down things for the democrats so they understand that adding spending to the tune of $7 trillion per year is not something the USA can do!?!?!? She was speaking with smoke and mirrors.(And she smoked your logic! I assume by you comment you are swimming is credit card debt and bankruptcy?) She said just ignore the consequences of spending over the debt ceiling!!! I assuming that the USA has all the credit it would ever want and that a Trillion dollars in interest is a loss the USA can sustain forever!! Get cheaper shoes, get a second job, Balance the budget!!! Just getting more credit and spending more doesn't fix anything.

      The lengths these politicians will go to, to lie about how Fed govt finances work. The Fed govt does not operate like your household, does not take out loans from banks or use credit cards. The Fed govt issues the US dollar. People need to wise up to this duopoly charade. These people perpetuate Austerity myths and are killing us all. Katie Porter is LYING to you. This is why Democrats are in trouble!!! You actually agree with her!!! She stops at the moment of truth and you are so mesmerized you don't even realize it. The reality is she hooked you with family and the plight of not having enough money so use credit. She is responsible to pretend to set a limit she can maintain. "The hook is set" as a fisherman says!!! Then she goes on to explain why she just had to spend the money so go ahead and buy more on credit and let the credit company hold you in default, take your car, take your home, take everything!!! Look beyond the lie. DO you really spend every credit card to the limit and then default on them??? Do you actually spend in your own life like she describes??? WOW I can really see how sheep fall for the emotions and forget the truth and facts. Now she gets the spending money sets up a "heart social service" for "family" like illegals and then skims 80% off as personal and business overhead for herself. That is the Nancy and Adam way they have programmed into California. You just keep writing checks and going bankrupt . Either that or this is a fake person in a bot farm reenforcing the programming of the sheep as thinking people cannot possible fall for this nonsense.

      The GOP wants the country to default and have an economic collapse. They aren't negotiating in good faith and haven't budged on anything for a reason. They move the goalpost every time Biden conceded something to them. They want the collapse. They are counting on the stupid people in America to see the economic collapse and blame Democrats for it, like always, rather than the actions that Republicans have caused. This happens every single time the pendulum swings. Then the Republicans spend like crazy when their people gain office. Americans have the memory of a goldfish.

      Wrong. She tries but, There is no Credit Card. The United States Government prints its own currency, has a monopoly on its creation, controls the Money Supply the Interest Rate and can tax it out of its own attendant $23 Trillion Economy. Folks think the United States Government is some kind of Household or Business. What Household can do all that?

    • @bargdaffy1535
      @bargdaffy1535 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@artandarchitecture6399 The U.S. Government creates it own Currency, why would they need a balanced budget? Frank Newman, former Deputy Secretary of the US Treasury, talking about the US national debt. The US national debt is nothing more than the sum of outstanding Treasury bonds. People often think of the national debt as if it were a credit card loan, but this is wrong. The federal budget works nothing like a household budget, and the national debt works nothing like a household debt.
      A Treasury security (like a bond, bill, or note) is an asset that an investor can hold to earn interest. It is functionally equivalent to a savings account (specifically a Certificate of Deposit): you give up dollars today, you get them back after a fixed amount of time, plus interest.
      And they get created and paid back exactly the way a savings account does at a bank. If you purchase a CD from your bank, the bank debits your checking account, and credits your savings account. When the CD matures, the bank debits this savings account, and credits your checking account. Same with a Treasury security. If you buy one, the government (specifically the Federal Reserve) will debit your bank account, and credit a "securities account" in your name. When the bond matures, the Fed will debit the securities account, and credit your checking account.
      It's true that we need to pay back the debt. And we do this, every single day: as bonds mature, the Fed debits the securities accounts, and credits people's checking accounts. And then, frequently, new bonds are sold to other people, whoever would prefer to hold their savings in bond form rather than deposit form.
      What we never need to do is pay down the debt, ie to reduce the amount of Treasury bonds in circulation. (This would be accomplished by not issuing new bonds as old ones are paid back) This is simply not necessary, and we have only even done it on a very select few times throughout our nation's history.
      It's also NEVER necessary to raise taxes based on the size of the debt, so long as we have a floating exchange rate and the debt is only denominated in the currency we issue. Given those circumstances, the ONLY reason we would need to raise taxes is to reduce private sector spending in order to control inflation. But if inflation isn't a worry, then there is no need to raise taxes, no matter how large the debt is, no matter what the interest payments are, etc.

    Breaks this into a very easy to understand explanation, about how the debt ceiling is an artificial ceiling by Congress.

    • @JohnHancock-zb8no
      @JohnHancock-zb8no ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course it artificial what did you think it was a physical barrier, the debt ceiling is supposed to limit the debt and gives bargaining power to the opposition
      All she said in her example was that she needed to spend without a limit, aka a ceiling, because she spent outside of her means.
      In her example she said “would my credit card company accept my debt ceiling as an excuse to not make my payments?” This is so incredibly foolish, she is basically saying that because she spent outside of her means, she now needs to spend further into debt in order to pay off other debts, when she should have just spent within her means to begin with

    • @harv83
      @harv83 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Except, she showed how those were essential expenses. I'd it's something that's needed, then you spend it. If you made a mistake, you learn, but you still have to pay - if you're a country, might need to increase taxes

    • @RS-ls7mm
      @RS-ls7mm ปีที่แล้ว

      This is stup!d. The debt ceiling is the level at which the banks don't think you can pay back. Given the total fiscal irresponsibility of the democrats its a wonder any country would lend us money. They know we have reached the point where the US credit rating is falling.

    • @markjacobson4248
      @markjacobson4248 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@JohnHancock-zb8no The analogy is appropriate because Congress sets the budget and they set the debt ceiling separately. The appropriate time to fight over how the government is spending money is during the time Congress allocates funding for different parts of the government. That is why the debt ceiling is artificial - not because people thought that it would literally stop spending, but because in exactly the same way as the analogy, the government has a already spent the money. The negotiation over the debt ceiling is entirely a negotiation over whether we risk damage to our capacity to operate in the future, not over whether the government is spending too much.

    • @Mluther65
      @Mluther65 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you need it broken down like this… lord help you. Also, the debt ceiling isn’t remotely the financial problem under which America is drowning. It’s the fact that we spend so much more than we make year over year that we need to keep raising the limit. How far into debt does the federal government need to get before we’re willing to acknowledge there’s a problem?

      Porter is also not a Senator. She’s a Representative in the House, where there are lots of extremely intelligent, dedicated Democrats who come from poor or middle class backgrounds but still got good educations. AOC’s family is hard-scrabble working class so she worked as a bartender to help support them and later to pay her way through university. She graduated, with honors, with a double major in both International Relations and Economics. Good things for people in government to know about, I think. She, Porter and others like them could be making many times their Congressional salaries in the private sector, where they wouldn’t get death threats, but choose to serve the people. Get involved in primaries so Democrats like this are the nominees, and then work to get them elected. This debt ceiling is as pointless as New Years Resolutions and I'm a dumbass that tried to maintain one during the year. These limitations probably sounded good in theory back then to make the government conscious about their spending but it's all nonsense at this point. We seem to have problems with our priorities in government these days since there's so much crap going on.

      @Chris Hoch That's not what the debt ceiling does. Did you watch the video? It's a pretty straightforward analogy. What DOES, however, add to the debt is spending 40% of what the entire world spends on military AND cutting taxes. It's like buying the biggest house in town and deciding to work part-time and then wondering why you got no money to pay your bills.
      This isn't an accident. It's by design. The GOP very clearly (quite literally, this is what they run on) does not want the US to succeed. They want it to fail.
      Why? For the same reason they tell the public it's always someone else's fault: power. They keep you weak so they stay powerful.

    Go Katie Porter! A common sense voice in a sea of double talking and side stepping politicians! I am 53 and can remember when politicians usually answered questions and were considered shady when they spoke around questions instead of answering! Please let's go back to having common sense government and no weird idol worshipping cultisim, as any sane human beings know, no one person can be infallible. Country over party and counting ALL votes, in my opinion the electoral college needs to be eliminated or drastically revamped - so that literally EVERY vote counts! Now we as a country, have to cut out a huge swath of politicians with their own whims and not "We the People" in mind! Just as a p.s. the answers from some politicians throughout the years weren't always the truth, but we did hear it from their mouths and could base our votes on what we believed, and when said politicians i.e. Nixon etc were caught in criminality they were ejected from office by not only the country but their own parties! Katie is a breath of fresh air, she is well liked and has a bright future in politics!

Now consider the fact that the last president and his party increased the deficit by one quarter of what it was..(which was the highest increase to the deficit EVER), then consider that those are the people who spent the money and now don't want to pay it back. Just like the reason they are so set on cutting social security benefits because they funded a war based on lies with social security funds and 20 years later have yet to pay it back.
