    This is such a great sound test. So cool of you to do this for all us guitar nerds out here on the interwebs... I noticed that even with the baseplate on the mustang, the jaguar still sounded more open with a wider high end sparkle. I wanted to highlight another major difference between the guitars that could be causing this, and that's the volume pot value. Stock, the mustang comes with a 250k pot, and the jaguar comes with a 1meg pot (the jazzmaster too, for that matter). That difference is quite significant, because those 1meg pots really let a LOT of high end come through. So that's another mod we all can do to make the mustang more like the jaguar, if that's something anyone wants to do.

      @@ejomo11 Thanks for the feedback! Yeah you're absolutely right that the Mustang still wasn't quite as open or sparkly as the Jaguar. I had a No Load Tone Control on the Mustang, so the total resistance was 250k (same as using two normal 500k pots) - but that does definitely play a part. I actually ended up modding the guitar even more and just ended up putting a Jaguar pickup in the bridge, but upgrading the pots and installing the baseplate will get you most of the way there 😊

    I didn't even know they made those baseplates. Another great video. Thanks for the info and comparisons!

    Great comparison and video! Where is the pickguard from on your Mustang?

    • @MarkB.Guitar

      Thank you mate 😊 It's a homemade guard, I'm afraid! I bought a couple of Japanese style wallpaper samples on eBay and stuck my favourite on an existing guard and finished it with decorators varnish. Very cheap and easy to do! A clear guard with wallpaper underneath would look better probably but this works for now 😊

    Hi can I ask whats the weight of the silver sparkle and compred to your other offsets I just pulled the trigger on one and am worried it will land here and be super heavy. Great content by the way you triggered my guitar GAS cheers

      Hello mate, thanks so much - glad you enjoyed the channel! Haha the Silver Sparkle Jag is an amazing guitar, it's definitely my favourite 😊 Mine weighs in the mid - high 8lbs range from memory. I'll double check tomorrow and let you know exactly what it weighs. It's a little heavier than I'd ideally like but it's definitely not super heavy! I have a CV70s Jag that weighs a little less. I'll let you know what both weigh. I hope you really bond with your new guitar 😊

      Hey @andrewmoran357 , I've just weighed both my Jags and the scales say they're both 8lbs 12oz. It's not super accurate because I weighed them on the kitchen scales lol but I hope that helps!

    It was a really good comparison. My Vintage parts Mustang is a bit weak sounding and needs new pickups. It just needs more output to be viable live guitar. I have the exact same Squier FSR Jag in Silver Sparkle and also needs pickup upgrades to keep up with my AVRI Jaguar.

      The base plates are a good shout if you think the pickups are salvageable, but sometimes old parts go past the point of no return! Lack of volume and mids is definitely a bummer for a live guitar.
      I hear what you're saying about the stock Squier pickups. I love this Vintage Spec A2 set of Jag pickups I've got in mine. I'm getting a slightly hotter A5 set soon to try out and I'm really looking forward to that!

    I've been thinking the same things about my mustang. I was going to just put in some beefier pickups, but this looks like a pretty good idea. I watched the video twice, but still somewhat unclear about the mod. You just got two strat steel base plates, and put them under the pickups? Am I understanding that correctly?

    • @MarkB.Guitar
      @MarkB.Guitar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah this is a really easy, cheap and straightforward mod! Definitely worth trying before splashing out on pickups 😊
      Monty's have a detailed video on how to install them, so I didn't go over it here - but you just need a hair dryer, screw driver, and to make 1 solder joint. You just attach the base plate, heat it up to melt the wax, wait for it to cool/dry, and ground the base plate to the back of the volume pot.

      Best of luck with the mod, I hope it works well for you! 😊

      @@MarkB.Guitar so would it be over kill to do this with some JB juniors? I think you just completely solved my issue. Really excited to do this!! Like I immediately thought from your prior video that your Mustang had a better sound.

    • @MarkB.Guitar
      @MarkB.Guitar  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dunsaniandreams9 that's a great question, I'm actually not sure 🤔 There are two different versions of the JB Jr from what I can tell - one with a green circuit board looking bottom, and one with the bar magnet right on the bottom. Do you know which version you have? If you email Monty's, or someone else who sells them, they should be able to tell you for certain!

      @@MarkB.Guitar I haven’t bought a JB junior yet, are you saying that some versions of it shouldn’t be mounted to a double baseplate? Good to know before I buy them.
