I was in Kosovo in 2003, not as a soldier but a school project. One day my brother and I went with the leader of the school into Mitrovica for some supplies, can't remember what. As we walked back towards the car, a big white 4WD with 'UN' printed on both sides, an elderly woman came up to us. She held a photograph out of a young man in military uniform and started blabbering in Serbian or Albanian. Our leader just kept saying "no...no...no...no..." with a firm voice while looking straight ahead. As we got in the car, he took a glance in the rearview mirror and said "We need to leave, NOW! So hang on." Pedal to the floor and wheelspin over a high curb, onto the main road and heading for the nearest UN checkpoint, which wasn't far away. We were later told that the woman's shouting and waving the picture around had caused some persons to gather. Many civilians have weapons and while he didn't think we were in any immidiate danger, he didn't want to take any unnecessary risks. Better to just GTFO as fast as possible.
This is recent. Older man in a sedan slows down as I’m walking home from and says he’s an Uber and that they’re doing free rides that day. I declined several times and led him towards the fire station. Got his plates, got a ride home from a cool firefighter. Gave them all the details and they said file a report on my behalf. Still don’t know if they ever got him. It’s only been 2 weeks. *IF* I hear from the police that they got the guy, I’ll post an update.
I’d prob say for me it was when I was at a hotel party and like 10 dudes started showing off the guns they brought to this party. Later that night I found out they robbed the other half of the party and someone got shot in the arm trying to run. I left 1 hour before all that
