World War II was such a complex war. There will never be another war that even comes close. They were the greatest generation and always will be. Wish I was a bit older when my grandpa was still here, i would’ve loved to hear him talk about his time in the pacific fighting the Japanese.
Maybe he would have talked with you about it but my dad had been in the South Pacific theater, he really didn't like to talk about it much and when he did it would be more about little bits of daily life, more what they did for entertainment, never about actual combat. If you can find a copy of a book, 'Orchids in the Mud', it's a collection of personal anecdotes from members of the 132nd Infantry about their time in the Pacific, maybe not all that pleasant a read but spell-binding. Ya, WWII, not sure if it took a special breed or fostered it or a combination of the two, but ya.
This is amazing, thanks you for posting this.
