I agree with your verdict 100% Tim. The YM is a spectacular piece for all the reasons you indicated. I personally own that exact reference and it never ceases to put a smile on my face when wearing it.
I had a 116622. I couldn't figure out of it was a dress or sport I prefer sport watches. Anyway, I traded it last year with a Sea-Master 300 for 2010 Daytona black dial right before the Daytona market popped due to the Paul Newman. I like the Daytona way better.
@Matthew M trading watches with a dealer is always a losing proposition. I bought the YM for 11K and the Omega for 6K. The dealer wanted 9 for the Daytona and would only give me 6 for the YM and 3 for the Omega, so I lost my ass in the trade at that time. However, look at the current market prices for steel Daytonas 116520 of model year 2010 right before they went to ceramic bezels. I'll save you the time - 20K give or take a grand.
What a great review! I have both the 16622 Yachtmaster and the 16610lv Kermit. Love them both but for wearability, the Yachtmaster wins. That being said, I’ve had an on-the-spot offer to buy my Kermit off of my wrist but not the YM! Again, excellent video.
This comparison was for the 116622 but Rolex updated the 40mm YM and it now has a 70 hr power reserve without the added bulk that the sub and Op got. This makes the YM a total no brainer for me. I think Rolex did a good job making the new 41mm sub feel the same in size and more sleek in design as the 40mm sub but both feel big and bulky compared to the 40mm YM. The 40mm sub had no transition from case to bracelet. Not only would I choose the YM, with the YM keeping the 40mm case and svelt design with the updated movement, it’s a no brainer
I had 3 Subs, 1 Tudor Sub, I GMT, and want a YM. The fact that the sub can hit 300 mts is useless, when I dive I use specific underwater gauges in a console, not a Rolex, besides 1000 ft ???. For dress and avery day use, the YM is elegant, distinctive, looks smaller and more refine. Thats my choice
I have the rhodium dial YM, love it! I’ve always said I wouldn’t buy a sub. I own a planet ocean so feel ive already got myself a luxury diver. The deep case back of the sub creates a gap between the side of the case and my wrist which I don’t like. I feel it’s quite a generic watch. And the lugs are very thick and boxy. The YM addresses all these faults in my opinion. With that being said, if I had the money I would buy a smurf, I just love the colour.
People are being sheeples simple as that. But to a real connoisseur YM is always the go to piece. The thing with YM is that you have to try it on and understand the design. Rolex chose daytona casing and submariner face for a reason.
The Subs bezel is unidirectional because to count underwater time, and if accidentally the bezel turns, will be in favor of less time underwater... a matter of security
The Best Buy is the all yellow gold yacht master! Pre owned in amazing condition for 15-17k for precious metal. You get the same wow factor as the smurf for half the price. Now with that said the smurf is limited run and will go up more in value in time. Not that you will lose on the yacht master but no comparison on How exclusive the Smurf is but in my humble opinion I’m with all of you on this I’m taking the yacht master all day
The Yaught will be an absolute dog to sell. It a glittery copy of something iconic (the sub). It's about the only steel sports Rolex that you can walk into an AD and buy (that should worry you a lot).
Why didn’t Rolex give the Yacht Master the Glide Lock? That might improve sales somewhat. The Sub is a legend of course, but the Yacht Master is the more beautiful watch, and I likes me a little bit of platinum 🙂
During the old Oyster case era, I thought that the YM was too dainty and feminine for a man's watch, but in this era of the Maxi case, I feel that the YM is just right.
Ben Friedman maybe so, but it can also be a very convenient and quick way of sizing the watch to ones wrist. As such, I think it should be made available on all Rolex bracelets. It would also give Rolex yet another advantage over other brands, until they followed suit of course. Which would then benefit everybody and not just Rolex owners.

I like the 116619 Sub, it flies under the radar, and as much as I would love to wear a 116618, but it is too flashy with all that yellow gold. The 116619 is stealth and only Watch enthusiasts would know that it is a precious metal piece. You can wear it all the time and almost nobody will know what it really is.
I have the Smurf Sub and I absolutely love it. It's my favorite watch in my collection but it scratches so easy.. and the scratches are very noticeable in the sun light. I'm talking very light scratches are easily visible.. Maybe it's just me.. but every time I wear it outside and the sunlight hits It looks freaking amazing with that white gold.. But looking at it little closer it starts to cause heartburn..lol... Wearing this watch..I find I'm more aware of my surroundings and more cautious to potential hazards near my wrist. Lol..

Just bought the YM with blue dial from AD without waiting for the following reasons: 1/ Every AD receives about 3-6 YM 40 a year so everybody can actually buy them from AD. 2/ New/good conditioned YM on the grey market are about the same price as retail therefore the watches nerds pay less attentions. 2/ Good conditioned 2nd-hand Black Sub is the same price as new YM if not more. (YM 70hrs > Sub 48hrs) 3/ Literally perfect watch for all occasions.
It is so frustrating how stubborn Rolex are when it comes to the Glidelock. Look guys I KNOW you designed it for diving etc. But you invented a superior clasp that many YM or GMT wearers would at least like the option of having. So ridiculous that this technology isn't allowed for non-dive pieces. It's the one thing I don't like about my GMT.

The problem is the new Submariner case. The Yachtmaster still has the older more elegant watch case. The Sub is much more squared off and broad, giving it a heavy and somewhat ungainly look.
The biggest question here is. What the fuck is going on with Rolex that not all watches that looks like divers in their collection are not at minimum of 200m waterresistant. Like American Psycho "Why isn't it Possible?"
In my considered opinion the Yatchty is better looking in the aesthetics element, however the Subby is white gold stealthy piece. I will go for the Subby because I have the Yatchty...the review is spot on, excellent objective comparison. Thanks Tim!

Smurf for me. Only need to find a way to afford one. Looked at the Yachmaster (beautiful piece), but didn't buy due to the bezel being able to be scratched. My OCD will not allow me to ignore scratches everytime I check the time.

I own both. I like the smurf best. It used to be my everyday watch until my neighbors found out how much it costs. Now I wear my deep sea because it doesn't have a cyclops.
The yacht master definitely looks nicer but there is no denying if you daily wear these, that platinum bezel is going to get scratched to shit really quickly and the ceramic sub bezel will be perfect forever. That’s the thing I think about comparing these two. Just waiting for the sub with 3235 to be announced.

The Yacht-Master is the sleeper among the sports Rolex models. It wins all types of comparisons, but demand on it is not as great.
No doubt going for this Yacht-Master all the way! The Submariner looks dull comparing to it.

glidelock would not make sense for YM. It's not a diving watch. glide lock is for adjusting bracelet over a diving suit.

I have both and prefer the clasp of the YM. The Sub's clasp is comically long to accommodate the glide lock!
