      Armor king from tag 2 to 7. It's more of an indirect nerf tho cus t7's system is just not built for my boi. Movement looks great in t8 I'm excited for him to come back and see how he does in t8 system with the sidestep buff and counter hit throws

      SFV Ryu's kicks nerfed to oblivion for no fucking reason. The will just go through the opponent and do no damage and the contact point will be at the halfway point of his thigh.

    An Important thing not mentioned about Fahkumla - he wasn't just busted, he was LITERALLY broken. As in the character was more bugged than a bethesda game. His forward and backdashes had low crush frames, his hitbox was wonky af making him unexpectedly evasive, his movement was fucking cracked making him a big boi char that could step some shit that some others couldn't. Like he needed to be fixed first and then he got nerfed.

    The Sean nerf is unreasonably annoying to me. He's a relatively interesting take on a shoto, for the most part thanks to how his roll and takedown combine with more generic shoto stuff, but instead of making him into as solid of a character as he could be, they make him a "handicap char."
    I feel like some people on fightcade did end up picking him against me as a sort of self-imposed nerf to make it more even when fighting a newbie, but he could've been an actually interesting character if they just didn't nerf him for no reason.
    I know he's strong in 2nd Impact but nobody ever plays it, and it never felt quite as good as 3S to play. It is gorgeous though, you can tell they spent the extra memory on making more beautiful stages.

    • @mappybc6097
      @mappybc6097 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nobody plays Second Impact because Third Strike is objectively better in nearly every regard except for the stages and some tracks.
      When it came out, though? Those two years, Sean was the Luke of SF3, op af and half of the playerbase maining him or at least keeping him as a secondary.

    • @TheRadioSquare
      @TheRadioSquare ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mappybc6097 Yeah, it's a shame they never made some sort of "ultimate" port with the stages from 2I or NG. 3S is too good to care about the stages, but it's still sad how much worse they are compared to older ones.

    • @meganinten0078
      @meganinten0078 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nah. Don't care about Sean.
      He was never cool in the first place.
      We have so many shotos that are better than him.
      Even Dan is cooler than Sean.
      Dan is a joke character and he embraces it.
      That is why Dan is so loved by many fans NOT because he is viable in matches.
      If you want to make Sean unique, make him a basketball fighter.
      We don't have basketball players in fighting games these days.

    • @TheRadioSquare
      @TheRadioSquare ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @meganinten0078 he had a volleyball, i dont remember if he had real setups with it, but he could. You're thinking "make another character" when the only thing they needed was to tweak the existing one. Dan was also hardly interesting in terms of gameplay until they sauced him up in SFV.

    I remember back when DBFZ had added more assist options, they also decided to nerf SSJ Goku's Crouching Medium since he was a widely used character, mainly for his Beam assist, which was a very powerful tool that only two characters had access to, at the time
    The change is now reverted, and the character has received several buffs since then, but, at the time, since a good portion of the roster now had access to their own Beam Assist, that was more than enough of a hit to SSJ Goku to keep him in check, so the additional nerfs to the character just felt like overkill
    MoldyBagel has a great video fully explaining this nerf: th-cam.com/video/TNUc1LKrjIw/w-d-xo.html

    I think we as a community need to take something from this. It’s fair to say “the developers need to trust the player” but these are some of the same players who have complaints about something being too strong. We can’t just put it all on the developers when they react to what the community is saying when we want them to listen to us when we complain about something. We should be biting our tongue a bit more if we don’t want constant need hammers.

    Tekken 4 was a hot mess Julia, King, Lei and Yoshimitsu where absolutely gutted and were shells of what they were in Tag 1.
    Of those characters only King emerged with his playstyle intact. Lei and Yoshi were relegated to being rarely used oddballs while Julia would become strong again but with a totally different set of strong moves. Most of what made her good originally from T3 and Tag 1 had been nuked aside from elbow and mad axes. It completely killed my interest in playing her competively.
    Jin meanwhile, Best character in Tag 1 got redesigned and was completely busted. There's a reason half the competitive scene at the time skipped T4 and carried on with Tag 1.

    Since you mentioned Lidia, she also deserves to be in this list as well... because in Season 5, they nerfed her even as hard as Fahkumram, if not worse. She used to be in contention for top tier when she came out, but Season 5 killed her toolkit, and as a character with such a complex set of moves, it makes learning her even harder. Lidia is played even less than Fahkumram.
    Another case of stupidly bad nerfs belongs to Roll, she was already the worst in Marvel 1, and they nerfed her hard going in to Marvel 2.

    The story of pichu doesn't end there. Many of those nerfs were quietly reversed later on basically back to launch state. However, this didn't matter much because the meta had developed ways to counter pichu at that point, who now sits in mid tier at best. It's another case of the developers getting spooked by online outrage and overreacting, albeit they eventually came to their senses.

    Honestly, the Sentinel nerf was reasonable.
    It was obvious something about the character needed to change, and whereas people thought what would be targeted at his armor and moves, Capcom just made him less sturdy.
    This was a good nerf that lowered the power of the character without taking away any of the tools he had.
    The fact that this was a reasonable nerf and not an overnerf like many on this list is proven by the fact that all controversy of the nerf disappeared within 2 months of it happening, and right now Sentinel is still on nearly every UMvC3 team even at this stage of the game's lifecycle, with some players like Ray Ray even using him as an Xfactor anchor.
    The Sent nerf is a case of an overreaction to a nerf, not an overreaction to a strong character.
    It's also not an example of Capcom listening to players and letting them balance the game, because absolutely no one asked for Sentinel' health to be nerfed.
    Everyone was talking about his armor and range.
    Capcom went with a nerf thst preserved the character, and that's why still to this day, Sentinel is one of the most used characters in competitive UMvC3.

    • @-8h-
      @-8h- ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No it wasn't, especially considering the side of his hurtbox. This is the biggest L take in this comments section.
      If you think sentinel is on nearly every umvc3 team, then you clearly don't watch umvc3 tournaments. you only listed rayray, who is THE sentinel player.
      Capcom listened to players who were whining, the same people who thought magneto storm sentinel was the best team in the game because of their mvc2 ptsd

    • @leonfrancis3418
      @leonfrancis3418 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @-8h- Ceo 2023, 40% of top 8 had Sentinel on their team.
      Team Big Body even has an Evo Championionship under its belt.
      I understand the nerf still clearly makes you emotional, but unlike every other characrer on this list, Sentinel not only still sees huge amount of play, but also has a EVO victory after the nerfs being discussed.
      That shows Capcom knew what they were doing.

    • @-8h-
      @-8h- ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @leonfrancis3418 I like how your only reference is a tier 2 tournament with a small handful of top umvc3 players. What's even better is how you try to word it as "40%" to make it sound bigger than 2 of the top 8. With those 2, rayray and KBR being consistent top players.
      3 sentinels in top 16 at ceo 2023, in comparison to evo 2023, which only had 4 sentinels in the top 64, 1 in the top 16 (being KBR, of course) with rayray being 17th.
      There was also a year where chun li won, and another where ghost rider and Arthur came 2nd, winning 1 evo says more about the player than the character.
      In a game where the devs thought that Virgil, Dr doom, morrigan, and Phoenix were ok the way they are, and hsein ko, ghost rider, and nemesis were ok the way they are, I think it's safe to say that they really didn't know what they were doing with the sentinel health nerf. Top players have said on commentary mic that a health buff still wouldn't make him good. He's called whackbot for a reason.
      Also, if you're gonna try and convince people of anything, saying that they're emotional just because you don't like what they said and you want to try and dismiss it as wrong never helps your argument, it just makes you look emotional.

    • @leonfrancis3418
      @leonfrancis3418 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@-8h- It was 3 of 8. That's 38% or rounded up to 40.
      So you're also poor with numbers.
      You were absolutely emotional. You came in name-calling and talking about Ls and whatever memey gibberish.
      It's only after you couldn't spaz at what I had to say anymore that now I get an actual human response from you, and even then you ignore the facts.
      Sentinel sees huge amounts of play and is on an evo winning team post nerf.
      He is the only character on this list where that is the case.
      Because he doesn't belong.
      As I said, an overreaction to a nerf.

    The biggest problem with Pichu is not only the nerfs, but the new meta
    In the early meta, aggressive characters were more prominent, so Pichu didn't worry too much about approaching. And his f-tilt being broken made camping risky (which has been heavily nerfed). But now, a lot of meta characters were really good at camping, good disjoints, or really good at stuffing approaches. Pichu is forced to play patient with aggressive tools, while surprisingly technical and unforgiving
    Before the nerfs, Pichu was already starting to fall off cause it was progressively harder to play him. Void the top Pichu player was already planning to drop them before the nerfs, but the nerfs sealed the deal. Even the major buffs they give him later weren't enough, cause Pichu still gets camped hard

    I think Buffs over Nerfs is the best approach. Many can feel a character is busted but only minor nerfs should be done to actually broken 7-3 characters.
    Buffing the lower tiers to the S Tiers gives them tools to deal with the Top 3 characters. It gives more tools, more tech, more things to discover and doesn't take away strategy's or gameplans from characters.
    Nerfs make the game more stale, annoy most players who actually use the nerfed characters that put in hundreds of hours of grinding into their character to just have to relearn or pickup a new character.
    Buffs accomplish the same thing nerfs can bur without the anger, salt and feeling of betrayal

    If we're talking about Smash characters being nerfed, I'd say Kirby got it worse. Kirby was a god in Smash 64, but got nerfed into the Earth's mantle in Melee. Kirby's a bottom 5 character in Melee, and has been mediocre, at best, in every game since then.
    Speaking as a Tekken player, I'd argue Lidia's nerfs were more controversial than Fahk's. Lidia did need some nerfs, but she wasn't even the best female character in the game on release, nor was she in the same solar system as pre-patch Fahk or goddamn Leroy. Lidia was gutted in her very first patch, basically, getting done to her what took multiple patches to happen to Fahk, and never, truly, got done to Leroy.
