Agree. Your video was a lifesaver. No hot water means UNHAPPY Wife and in turn an unhappy life. I applied two strips of 3M aluminum duct tape loosely over the fan outlet as I took out the two screws at the back of the fan tray. Worked out great and remembered to remove the tape before final reassembly. Thank you again for a well produced instructional video.
What a way to spend Christmas! Getting ready to see family we thought we’d pop in the shower and lone and behold code 11! You’re a lifesaver! Worst time of year to think about having to spend more money on a tech!
Just a big "thank you!!!!" I live in central Mexico and had this problem and, despite never messing with a water heater like this ever before, was able to get it back and running perfectly in about one hour. Great video!!!
Thanks for this video, been dealing with a finicky code-11 for about 6 months, tried resetting it, cleaning flame rods, replacing flame rods... followed your instructions and she works like new again. Cheers.
Life saver, thank you so much. Just did it today and it seems worked. Next I will need to clean or exchange the copper “fin rolls” on top of the heating elements. They had build up on them. I cleaned them the best that I could.
Thank you so much for this in-depth video. The other videos we watched did not completely disassemble the unit. We are so thankful to take hot showers again.
Thank you! Just followed your steps and have hot water now. 30 minutes or so. You saved me a bunch of $$ and aggravation... Interestingly enough, it really didn't seem all that dirty to me.
Thank You! That's so helpful. I've been watching a lot of Rinnai troubleshooting videos and I'm concerned that nobody mentions whether or not they are working on a condensing type or not. As if we should know that by looking. cheers..
Thanks, did what you said in the video along with take apart each individual burner scraping out lint, bugs and dirt them blowing each one out with air. I also blew off the burner assembly. My rl94 is like new!!
Smith HVAC, Your video was spot on but like most disassembly / assembly I do, I have two screws left over. They are longer the all the others. Can you tell me where they go for an RL94?
Some of the outer screws around the burner plate are longer than others. Hard to say where yours are from, if they are fine thread machine screws they are off of the gas assembly.
Thank you for this video. I however am still getting a code 11 every week or so. When I remove the front cover, the gas ports are covered with water droplets… what would cause this and what is the fix? FYI. Rinnai thought it was a heat exchanger and sent me a new one and I had a plumber install that but still code 11.
Thank you for a great video, just a few question do I need to replace any of the gaskets? Also how can I check for gas leaks just want to make sure everything is back together properly. And once again thank you.
No as long as you didn't pull the flame sensor gasket out you're ok. I like the PT299 gas leak detector. It's cheap and it works great. amzn.to/48EhKYX
Thanks very much - this video gave me the confidence to get into my Rinnai v65 and solve the problem myself. Having the camera so close to where you're working is an excellent setup - it was easy to see what was going on, and the occasional voice-over comments were exactly what I needed. I'm not sure if you're still responding to comments a year after the video, but for my setup, even though the heat is working again, there's now a fairly significant odor of natural gas whenever the tank is running (not just during initial startup). Could I have missed something putting it back together? Do I need to replace some gasket somewhere?
@@whocantexplain Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and replaced the full rectangular gasket around the burner plate (which was pretty tightly compressed after 7 years), and that seems to have fixed it.
I have R94LS and gave code 11. i did all the cleaning and still not working (still showing code 11). i even cleaned each burners it was never been cleaned from past owner. this is our 4 days without warm/hot water. i placed both igniter and frame sensor but they won't be here until Jan 2nd LOL. any suggest what to TS or look or clean? could it be there is a blockage on the incoming gas or gas sensor?
@@SmitHVAC.oh wow ok. Glad the poster asked this critical question because I was about to attempt this procedure by simply turning off the unit from the beaker. I wasn’t aware and didn’t see in your video being called out that gas had to be shut off . So sorry for the question again- to attempt this entire cleaning procedure the first thing I should do is turn the gas supply off to the Rinnai correct? Please confirm. Thanks.
Where is the air intake filter on this unit? Everything I see keeps saying top right side and will slide out towards me, but I don't see anything that even remotely looks like that.
When removing the two bottom’s screws to get into the burner housing unit i dropped a screw and it fell into the vent motor. Can i still run it like that? If not how do i remove it?
This is exactly what I anticipated would happen to me with this fix. As mechanically inclined as I am, Murphy of “Murphy’s Law” always shows up at the most inappropriate time. To avoid dropping screws into the fan unit, I cut two strips of 3M aluminum duct tape and lightly pressed the tape over the fan hole. Just remember to remove the tape after those two screws are reinstalled!
I had a hard vibration from my R75LS. I carefully took the fan out, cleaned it (lots of debris) and put it back in. No vibration now, but I have a code 11. Any ideas please?
It was working fine before cleaning fan, just a loud hum/vibration. Are you suggesting code will trigger after cleaning fan if I didn't clean burner? I mean, what your saying makes sense - there were quite a few wasps and moths in the fan.
So, I took my time and carefully cleaned the burner and cleaned the coils above it. Checked the fan again and sucked anything out of the air assembly to the fan. Put everything together and it still throws code 11. Any ideas? I only disconnected the burner solenoid when I took the fan out - that couldn't possibly be that sensitive, no?
