I cannot tell you, how much I appreciate your work of letting us take part of your walks in this light way. Mostly caused by your B-Roll, drone flights, you pass the camera as if we still stand there (what means you have to act as if you continue going, but hurry back to pick your gear up again and again). It is transmitting a very close feeling of being there too. Amazing job, thanks for your effort!
"Quality Content". You do make me chuckle. I watched it all the same. I don't watch your videos for the photography (which is awesome), I watch them because you're entertaining, interesting, likable, inspiring. It's a great way of spending twenty minutes or so and I look forward to Wednesday evenings. Keep it up and thanks.
It's definitely a lesson in making the best of the scene you have rather than lamenting the scene you don't have. When you can practically reach up and touch the clouds, there's definitely possibilities for a great photo. Clouds wrapping over a foothill mountain with mountain goats or sheep in the foreground can make a wonderful environmental portrait that captures a bit of the natural beauty of the UK.
These types of video, I.e. no photography, are really as important and interesting as these times you get epic conditions and images. As a hobbyist I heap huge pressure on myself with a once a week close to home photography outing. It can get depressing after a few weeks of no images given these constraints. So thanks for sharing your photography lows and not just the highs.
Camper vanners cooking show?? Expertly done.. but really? Yes please !! I've not thought of your 'wrap-trick' recipe/method before..mmm..I'm off to get my ridge monkey out now..Bon Appetite. 😁😁😁👌👌👌🚐
I always enjoy my breakfast coffee watching you and your adventures on a Thursday morning (Australia time). This one was no different Thomas. The fact that you are prepared to NOT get a shot is testament to your confidence in your channel and the thousands of loyal followers. Cheers.
It's the whole package that makes your videos so entertaining and watchable - the camping, the hiking, the cooking, the banter and the great photography - that means they're never a let down even if the weather doesn't play ball. I'm glad you still make the videos regardless. You inspire me to get out with my camera every week and just take what comes. Thanks Thomas
As a photographer and filmmaker, I am admittedly at least as fascinated by the RichMonkey, which since your films has also become a loyal and most used companion for me on my travels in my expedition mobile. How nice to see it as a supporting actor again this time. Thanks also a lot for this tool!
A great example of it not the arriving but journey that is important. So you didn't get the sunset you'd hoped for ,it's still a great video and nice to see you more chilled than usual.
No rainwear?! Dude, remember the essentials! ... I appreciate the honest reality of your landscape adventures. It doesn't always work out and it is good for we mortals to see that happen to the photographers we follow.
Your content is engaging because you show both the successes and failures, however, its the journey of these outcomes which is the most enjoyable. The effort you go to, B-Roll, that allows us to be a fly on the wall as it were, is really appreciated. The reason for my comment today though is the way you make your wrap. Never seen that before and as my wife and I have wraps quite often for lunch we will give this method a go. Thanks for the tip. Take Care
When you pulled out that folding table and the folding chair - I have more or less the same setup. The table is quite old but still does the job and the chair is pretty sturdy and comfortable. The only thing that was missing for me was the fire pit, but this has changed now. Thanks for putting the link in the description. I will definitely try the tortilla folding trick. So for sure that was quality content. It's not only about photography, it is about all the bits and pieces that make a trip unique, no matter if you get an image or not. Thanks for sharing this.
Photography, hiking, and cooking. You have turned into a triple threat channel. Living in the Pacific Northwest of the USA, near Mt. Rainier, I know how fast weather can change in the mountains. Forecasts aren't always correct either. It is no fun getting caught in the rain when you aren't prepared.
I can't miss a new video ! Back from photographing birds at the beach to watch your video, no time to unpack the bag, upload the photos ! Watchnig your video is the best time of every wednesday !
Maybe somebody else has already asked and you've already answered, if so, I can't see the comment. Please tell us more about the portable fire pit. WOW! That's a sweet little camping accessory. Loved this segment. Just so serene and beautiful.
Haha, it's a Thursday morning breakfast video for me😁 Different time zone. Though sometimes I like to hold out to watch it in the evening instead when it's quieter around the house.
Just wanted to say that I love your videos. They are always so calming and beautiful ❤ and as a photographer and nature lover I feel like I am "home". Thanks for taking us outside with you, especially for those (including me) who are not able to go outside on adventures no matter of which reasons.
just watching you set up a fire and cook your wrap and relax by the van is nice and serene. It's enough on its own, the photographs are just an added bonus :)
First off great tip on the fire pit, I will be looking for one myself. Quick suggestion on the table. A 2cm lip on it. I once chucked my camera on the seat and then had an emergency breaking while driving...
I find it amazing that where you live and work, you're able to car park camp, so to speak, without any trouble at all. In a highly populated country to boot. Here in the USA I can't stand campgrounds. Too close to the neighbors, high cost. Have to reserve well in advance. It's just a chore and a half. Thanks for your vids Thomas. The food looks great, too.
Even when it's not a productive photography video, I still enjoy the journey. I liked seeing the mist rolling in and the sheep wondering over the mountains. It was very calming.
Hi Thomas - what a simple but brilliant idea is your front seat ‘table’. I hadn’t thought of doing that but it’s a great idea. If you get a minute a quick show on how you made it would be appreciated as I might nick your idea. 👍
Been up old man of coniston twice before, on both occasions we were clouded out and had rain. We used the old miners track which takes you past the old/remains of the mines up to a lake, and then on up to the summit. First time up we had a really heavy rain storm before setting off and sat in the car waiting for the worst to pass, which it did, then on the way up we were treated to a ‘rainbow wall’ across the valley, and further up I got a lovely pano with broken storm cloud and rainbows with multiple lakes in the pano. A few years later we returned and did it again and it was torrential high wind & rain conditions, but I got some atmospheric B&W’s around the old mining ruins in the rain/mist. Despite the conditions, it was a lovely walk both times, sadly, I still have not seen the view from the top, only cloud both times!
One thing I like about your videos is you are very honest about your experience. This is helpful for me in particular as I struggle through my landscape photography efforts, where having the mountain I’m trying to shoot from get socked in with clouds is almost an expectation! It’s relieving to know it happens to everyone.
Still enjoyed this and liked your single image. I will be sharing this video with my friends who are not photographers but recently bought a campervan. They will be glad of the ideas on how to keep everything compact.
At last!!! Something I have in common with the mighty Tom! Trips to the LD thwarted by the pesky weather gods!!! I do watch your videos for the photography content but also because you have an enjoyable, humorous style and your not scared to poke fun at yourself. Keep them coming please.
I used to get inspired by your videos and wanted to go all and shoot photos. Recently things have turned. Now I watch a new video and immediately I get hungry. :D Jokes aside though I do love all the small camping tips you've been giving in the last year or so. Thanks!
Hi Tom, that was a very cool, gentle vlog and the fact that the shoot didn't go as planned gave the opportunity for a couple of small but precious nuggets of camping advice. It is always worthwhile doing videos that show how unpredictable a landscape shoot can be.
Almost have my new ride set up for landscape photo adventures in Colorado...just a couple more items to arrive (storage box & awning). Thanks for all the adventure ideas!
Long time fan from the Caribbean 🇹🇹 ...live vicariously through your experiences whether or not pics are taken... Appreciate the B-roll, drone and work that goes into your vids... Looking forward to next Wednesday's episode at midday / 1pm (Caribbean time)
Im glad to see someone else other than me rocking the sliders with socks look 😎 and please more campervan cookery videos as im sick of living on pot noodles 😆
Another thing to do with your tortilla shell is after you cut it spread some sour cream, if you like sour cream, all over the shell. Add your ingredients as you did in each section and finish the cooking process.
When you took the frame for the camping seat out, I immediately thought of Raiders of the Last Ark and the clothes hanger! Great van, great video, thanks.
Love what you post up Thomas - I’ve never seen a portable fire pit . . . . That would be great! Not that there’s many places where you can have a fire in Australian camping sites, especially during some parts of the year. But that is brilliant. Thanks for taking us camping!
I currently manage a campsite and can completely understand why u like to be out the way!! This season has been ridiculously busy and im the same love the quiet!! Awesome video again tom
love that firepit ! n the chair looks great i see Simon Eardley brought 1 for his canoe adventure. Great video photography adventure. little bit from column A a little bit from column B.
Dear Thomas, I've been following you on your channel for quite some time now and I'm always amazed at the locations and the beauty of nature you have in the UK, the videos of your camper are also beautiful, good luck and greetings Rudy.
Loved this video Thomas. If I ever get to Great Britain I’d be more than happy to go “just camping” with you. Sometimes these trips are actually what we need to recharge our human batteries and get our heads clear of all the rubbish that life throws at us. Savor the peace and quiet my friend. Cheers! 🍻 😀👍
We were there last month, absolutely beautiful place, I was even looking for your van thinking you might be there. No luck, but now here you are! Hopefully I will meet you in person one day!
I stayed in that campsite and walked the more direct route, was brutally steep but some very interesting leftover ironworks from what I assume was mining a long time ago. We planned to walk along the ridge to the next hill but just like here, the clouds dropped on us and then it started raining so we made a quick exit back to camp! :D
When you started to assemble the frame of the chair right at the start of the video you reminded me of the villain with the folding coat-hanger in Indiana Jones . I almost choked on my cup-a-soup with laughter. Simple things please simple minds, and I'm easily pleased. Great video.
I don't just want for the images, it's great to see you on your adventures and today I got to vicariously camp while our van is awaiting an engine replacement! Great video :)
I don't generally go camping for photography specifically, more just because I like camping, but a couple of campsites I can think of where you can just walk out and up into the hills ... the campsite at Glenridding on Ulswater in the Lake District and several campsites in Edale in Derbyshire. I wouldn't go mid season or weekends if you want empty campsites but might be worth a look
Quite happy to see you not get an image from the comfort of my sofa - what got me watching in the first place is you being relaxed about not getting an image - a great lesson to learn - mind you I’m surprised you didn’t have a waterproof!
Thank you for another down to earth video and thank you for the wood fire option. I’ve been looking for something simple like that. Scuppered by the great British weather 🙁 might I suggest using a live rain radar 🤔 in my line of work (Groundsman) I never leave home without consulting one in particular. Better not name it here but a big hint would be a question we all ask ourselves “Will it rain today” 😉 ooops I just have. Nice Vlog despite the lack of images 👍
well thanks a lot for your video! i do appreciate your photography very highly but now I definitely know for sure how to make a tortilla wrap properly. Before i got in to photography, i made a living as chef in a huge kitchen and i never came along of such a handy trick. you gave me the needed answer!
I echo your thinking regarding campsites, but will also add that some site are less than willing to let you drive off when you need to in the early hours. I do understand that, as it doesn't matter how considerate you are with lights and noise, you're still starting and driving a van, usually over noisy ground, off site in what most campers would consider the middle of the night. But hey, there's a lot to be said for a decent toilet, haha.
I have just started watching your videos and I am very impressed by them and the images. I am so impressed that in the night time when very little light what did you use to record the nighttime footage. Normally at that time of night, you get very noisy images due to the iso being too high. I couldn't notice any noise in the image, fantastic.
I cannot tell you, how much I appreciate your work of letting us take part of your walks in this light way. Mostly caused by your B-Roll, drone flights, you pass the camera as if we still stand there (what means you have to act as if you continue going, but hurry back to pick your gear up again and again). @Andrew Banner I agree with you as I follow along primarily for the adventure, the vistas, the B-Roll. We're living vicariously through Thomas Heaton.
You're too kind, Andrew 👍
Exactly! Thanks for saying it so well.
It’s a bit like a very toned down Fototripper vid!
@@Simon_PieMan I, for one, can't wait to see "The Wife" in a Trapper's Hat and just a touch too much lip stick!

To paraphrase a fishing quote, a bad day camping and photographing is still better than a good day in the office.

Looking forward to the cookbook. H-Eat-on photography - a culinary guide to photograph. ;)
