  • Getting your Hashimoto’s under control means avoiding things that can trigger a flare of your symptoms. But not ALL possible triggers are that obvious.
In today’s video I’m going to give you the 5 most common HIDDEN triggers of a Hashi’s flare. So, the next time your antibodies go through the roof, you’ll know where to look for the culprit.

What is a Hashi flare up? What are the symptoms. How do you stop it?

What blood tests or other tests do we do? Also how do we heal any of these triggers? 🙏

Each case/person is unique but I typically run labs that assess: food sensitivities, microbiome balance and gut infections, adrenal and thyroid function, and toxic burden. Examples of some of the lab tests I might use are: Food Zoomer Bundle from Vibrant Wellness; GI MAP from Diagnostic Solutions; DUTCH from Precision Analytical; Total Tox from Vibrant Wellness; Mercury Tri-Test & Blood Metals Panel from Quicksilver Scientific; Comprehensive Thyroid Panel; Comprehensive Blood Chemistry (CBC, CMP, Lipid, Iron, Inflammatory markers, Metabolic markers, etc.) Healing also looks different for everyone depending on what triggers are present.

Is it necessary to run all expensive these tests inorder to treat? Can you treat based on symptoms?

Does that mean I should not go swimming due to chlorine?

Well, that's totally up to you, of course. I'm just the messenger (one of many I'm sure). Having said that, I think it's important for folks with thyroid issues to think beyond diet, medication, and supplements to also pay attention to their environmental exposures.

I was only recently diagnosed with hashimoto's, when I was left with lingering hoarseness after a bout of COVID last September: I'm still very croaky. I had the same trouble about seven years ago, with an extended bout of laryngitis: they tested for thyroid then, but I was told it was OK....hmmm?? My mother also had hashimoto's, but this is the first I've heard of 'flare ups' and 'triggers'. You might like to add COVID to the list of triggers, but at least I finally got a diagnosis!

Yep! Though it's not "official" yet, many functional practitioners (myself included) are seeing Hashimoto's flares in their patients after a Covid infection. It makes sense. We've known for some time that other viruses like EBV, CMV, and Herpes can trigger autoimmune flares. I'm not surprised that Covid also seems to be a trigger. Just an FYI that I've seen thyroid antibodies soar after a Covid infection and it can take 4-8 months for those antibodies to normalize. Wishing you the best!

Can you tell if you have these issues

Thanks for the question! I'd recommend a stool test to check for organisms in the gut. You can also test for heavy metals. As for the 'halogen chemicals', you can start by reducing your exposure.
