To explain the going around of the house anuwa nee as i was told. So in Oukwanyama the gate of the house is in a different direction from the way our kwambi houses gates are and becouse andifukikwa by the Kwanyama's ( Mostly the once from Angola) We would have to walk the same way as if we are going into a Kwanyama household. That's the explanation i got and i have see it happen at my other cousins wedding too. Mostly if the Kwanyama's are from Angola it happens. I don't know how true it is. All in all make sure to pray, if you get what i mean. Thank you Mia for capturing this moments #becomingmemego'kondonga.
Speaking from experience. Going around the house moshikwanyama ngeno, our yards (omapya) gates or entrance by tradition it is supposed to be kuuzilo where the sunrise and the entrance of the main house (egumbo) should be kuuninginino ( where the sun set). So when people are coming in the house, they always walk on the right side of the house not on the left side. If the yard (epya) entrance is on the side then that’s what is supposed to happen. They will go around to the right side of the house.
Anuwa the Ndongas hang 2 flags if that’s not the first wedding in that house… so in this case, one flag was for Lusia and the other one is for the wedding that took place before Lusia’s wedding.
Egonga ohali kwatwa by everyone that has/is gifting the bride or groom with a cow. It’s actually just a way to show omufuko kutya okwa tselelwa kule nale
Mostly to us Kwambies now i don't know about others when you see 2 or more flags up in a house that has a wedding it symbolized the number of people that are married from that house,, like when my brother got married all our other 2 elder sisters that got married their flags also were raised, one thing i know is i think vamboes we do'nt know what is to engage someone,,, i mean the wedding is announced cards distributed almost all preps are done and on the day of flag riising is when the engagement is done like how noow,, maybe it has a different meaning which i dont know and would love to hear also coz by that time everybody already knows that you are getting married to him or her mos
Ano naakwambi ohaya tsilike more than 1 flag??? We don’t do that on our side. Also, why should one raise flags of weddings that took place long time ago??? With the engagement, I think when it happens on announcements day that part is omitted at church on the wedding day. I am not sure but I will definitely find out and bring you the answer here.
If engagement is what we call okugondwa in Oshiwambo, then I think we are right wala.. the thing of okugondwa on announcement day was apparently done back then when people used to wear uuRing wo 3 piece. Pastors anuwa ohaya yambeke ike one ring, so if you have 3 pieces you have to put on the first 2 pieces before Ohango and then the last piece in church so that the pastor blesses it as one. Some people are apparently still stuck with that but it’s not mandatory, now even people who only have one piece rings do it I don’t know for what reasons.
Ahawe Mia i thought engagement okuyalekwa, and it is given as a sign that this one has the owner thats why you find omati tati,, ndjika ongubu handje ndehi gumba mean i put a sign that she is to marry me thats why i dont get it when toyaleke omunhu while ohango hiigidha nale hapititha nuukalata,,, nenge oko ngaa okugondwa walye! Omapandela like i said ehulikemo ike kutyaa omwaza yangapi yookanwa for those that didnt know maybe..oh vambo things are also complicated mboli
