Not at all this kind of technicaque made the gold leaf very strong to add varnish contrary made the gold more opaque. Doesn t make any sense to protect it.
Real gold leaf doesn’t need anything. The faux cheap gold leaf needs to be sealed with varnish, like liquitex gloss varnish. Or any other suitable brand of varnish.

As well as genuine silver leafing needs to be sealed, due to oxidation.
