I can not tell you how much your deep dives into dickens have helped me read and love his books. I loved your chapter by chapter analysis of Bleak House, and I can't thank you enough for making them. If you ever did anything on trollope, that would be so appreciated too
Remember when I mentioned two years ago that I accidentally solved the villain in ‘The Mystery of Edwin Drood’ and that I was going to submit my theory to ‘The Dickensian’? Well, my dream has come true and they will be publishing it in the 2024 Summer issue. (Perfect timing!)
For video adaptations, I love BBC version staring Mathew Rhys (2012). The ending is by Gwyneth Hughes who is a mystery writer herself. I especially love the last 2 lines spoken in the show.
I'm currently reading Thomas Hardy's The Woodlanders to be immediately followed by The Mystery Of Edwin Drood. For me it has been more like a three years plus journey, one I wouldn't have missed for the world.❤
Wonderful project and I will be revisiting these Readalong summaries again and again, I assure you! Yes, I am a big fan of this great novel and let's not forget two of the best minor characters in the entire Dickens oeuvre: Durdles and Deputy! Knowing how Dickens tied up loose ends I would like to think that these two colorful characters might have played an important role in the final chapters of the book. Again, thanks for a pleasant stroll down Dickens Lane!
You almost have me talked into this! I’ve resisted because when I read a book, I need to know all the things and the thought of starting a book and only having half of it makes me shudder!😂
Have you read Dan Simmons' "Drood"? I'm about 3/4 through it. It's a rather uneven read, but it's also really interesting, like a well-researched real people fanfiction. I would think for a rabid Dickens fan like yourself, it would be really interesting. Warning: it does have occasional gory bits. Not a lot, but when it's there, it's fairly extreme. It also talks a lot about the writing of Our Mutual Friend, the Moonstone, and of course The Mystery of Edwin Drood.
Alas, I may not join this time around☹ However, it is a pleasure watching you light up describing that which you obviously adore😀 I made a promise to myself to fill some gaps in American Lit, notably Faulkner and Steinbeck but also Twain, whom I've neglected far too long. Enjoy!
I’ve really enjoyed the readalong, except for Our Mutual Friend which I gave up after a few chapters, I just couldn’t get into it. I will try again though. So I really hope the last book will not disappoint. I’ve given up identifying my favourite Dickens novel, I will probably re-read them all maybe next year.
DROOD's mystery has intrigued me for several years, but I've yet to read it, but your enthusiasm might finally ignite my motivation to pick it up. Have you seen the 1935 movie? Or read Dan Simmons' novel?
I'm feeling sad too. Is it because the Mega-Dickens Read Along is almost over or because Edwin Drood is unfinished or both? I don’t know. I agree that it’s unfinished in the worst way. When I started reading it (10 years ago) I didn’t know it was unfinished, someone told me before I got to the end. I’m glad she did. As disappointing as it was, I can't imagine how I would have felt at the end if I hadn't known!
Two years? Heavens! If only EVERYTHING in life was so enjoyable as this readathon-along
Looking forward to the Mega Trollope Readalong. 😁

Haha, I’m not so sure…
Thanks so much 🙂
@katiejlumsden I know you are so and I understand that these things are not your priority....if you ever did them I would be your first listener 😊
*busy

Wow. Congratulations
So cool! 🙂
I will buy Dickens laundry list, if published. Boy, could that man write!

What a fantastic long term project to read Dickens. Great intro to this final one. I’ve been meaning to read it for ages so hope to join along.

Thank you Katie!

I’m looking forward to rereading it 🙂
@@katiejlumsden Enjoy!!!
Another great video
Probably the only one of his I've not read. Will have to get a copy.

I haven’t, but I hear good things!

Do try Our Mutual Friend again if you liked his other books. It’s great!
I've always wanted to see the musical version of this. I hear it's very clever.
Yes, I haven’t seen it but have listened to the music. It’s a great idea.
I tried this book but could not get on with it. I'm reading Barnaby Rudge at the moment and really enjoying it!
Barnaby Rudge is great!

I haven’t! But I did watch the 2012 adaptation, which finished the story and was great.
Have you seen the musical?? I'm very interested in that too!
I haven’t, but I’ve listened to the music, and it’s fun!
Oh wow I remember the video when you introduced this read a long. 2 years went by already?! 😩
I know, so strange!

That would have been tragic!
what are you doing in October
Not reading Dickens, I guess 😆
