My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We see over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

In the early 60s we had a pulpwood business in Sw Louisiana. I was using my saw to clear briars to get to a pine. As I swept the brush sparks flew. I had hit a 1926 Fordson tractor that was only sticking up about a foot. Another time I hit a cannon ball that was imbeded in a sweet gum tree. Needless to say I needed new chains. We used pulpwood bows on our saws.OSHA killed those.

Whenever I hear of a saw being run on straight gas, I have a memory of the time back in the late 70s, when my Stihl 041 seized up after having run on straight gas. While it was still warm, I filled the cylinder full of oil and let it sit until it completely cooled. Then we slowly pulled the started a couple of times and drained out all of the oil. After emptying out all the straight gas we added a slightly rich mixture and after quite a few pulls it started and continues to this day to start and cut as well as some of my newer saws. The only down side to this saw is a saw that was once very easy to start and handle forty five years ago, really taxes these seventy four year old arms and back.

Yes, saving money is great but the value you give is more worth the money on repairs , it the life long skill of small engine issues you promote nicely .

CONGRADULATIONS!!! on hitting the big 100K! I've hit nails, fences, rocks, dirt, more odd junk than I can remember. BEWARE forks of big wood people! But I have NEVER completely ripped a whole tooth off! And then to continue to use the saw? I can just picture THAT conversation, oh well. I thought you were going to have to replace the crank when you started.Great job my lady. Always learn something with you. Be careful and God Bless.

This makes me feel like I've been insanely lucky. Doing a lot of chainsaw work on a farm means lots of fence posts and "fence trees". I can't even begin to count how many nails, fence staples, and sections of barbed wire I've cut through, not to mention the time I went clear across a 1/4" x 2" piece of strapping. The strap totaled the chain, but at most the others have needed a bit of sharpening to be right back to work. Most of the time I haven't even noticed until I finish a cut and see the bright spot in cut face. Amazed to see that much damage from just hitting a nail.

Happy Birthday young lady and, I too, am a retired Navy mechanic and love your channel. One thing I would request is a way to pull a chain saw for a 72 year old with a bad shoulder. One other tip for all you gas-loving folks (screw electric...not in my life), use non-ethanol gas. A bit more expensive, however, ethanol gas when left idle collects water like a sponge.
