I love I Forgot that You Existed. It's really fun to sing along to and I think it's obvious that she didn't forget or she wouldn't be singing about it but I see this song as one where she's no longer obsessing over how he did her wrong and she was able to go through her day, week, months without thinking about him.
At this point, no Taylor Swift opinion is that unpopular. There's always someone out there who will agree with you. Also would love to see a deep dive at some point into the chicks, how their career was destroyed and how they rebounded with taking the long way (won album of the year 2007) and especially gaslighter (produced excellently by jack antonoff 🤗)
i need taylor to take dolly partons route when it comes to the billionaire thing. dolly could have EASILY become a billionaire by now, BUT she gives away insane amounts of money every year and runs a massive charity. EDIT: i know taylor does a lot of charity!!! i’m saying dolly gives away enough money a year to not be a billionaire WITH A DAMN THEME PARK. AND SHE STILL HAS MORE MONEY THEN SHE COULD EVER SPEND!!! being a billionaire is unethical, and you CAN not be one by simply giving enough away to stay a 800 millionaire
Taylor gives people in need money all the time, usually someone else blabs about it,like she recently gave ALOT of money to tornado victims.Shes usually secretive about it because people get mad at her for some reason when she’s charitable.
@@vgs1259 THANK YOU EXACTLY! and this doesn’t make taylor a bad person, i just think she hasn’t truly thought about the ethics of being a billionaire, and why she should be giving away enough money to not be one. because at the end of the day, she couldn’t spend even half her wealth in a lifetime if she wanted to
As a millennial woman, yes I do agree that many people my age particularly women are fantasizing about her current relationship. I am guilty of it as well, but I’m not blasting it on social media or going insane over it. There’s a line being crossed for sure.
On the billionaire theme, I wish someone would do a documentary - or at least some sort of detailed investigative report - looking into the specific companies that are producing Taylor’s merch. Let’s get some insights into the personal lives of the workers, the managers, etc., who produce her merch, and the environmental impacts of production. If such a report were published, I suspect that Taylor couldn’t simply ignore a bright light exposing the details of what her business choices do to workers who are behind the scenes. It would be fun to see her extend the compassion she expresses for her known workers to the more hidden workers (or redirect her business to countries with better labor/environmental protection). Bright lights are relatively hard to ignore, compared to the shadows where these sordid details are currently lurking. Perhaps, as a journalist, you could do some networking and plant this bug in the bonnets of some worthy investigative folks.
Second this, OG Swifties and more inquisitive ones know how Taylor and her team can be. If we are able to put the proper pressure and attention on this, Taylor would have to address it eventually.
Probably the same one involved with other artists' merch who are under UMG like Olivia Rodrigo, The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, and Kendrick. Taylor is practically another cog in that wheel. I don't buy any official merch from musicians besides concert tickets. Like, I've seen people complain about Kendrick (the low quality tour shirts as well) and Olivia's merch (the infamous 100 dollar Guts ring set) as well and I believe they're all manufactured by the same company. I don't think Taylor has her own sole print shop somewhere. I think all artists should be aware of this.
@@aidentan6547I don't really understand what kpop has to do with this. Yes they are capitalists having their merch sewed by poor people in a third world country, but that doesn't make them an exception or a target that needs to be addressed first. They are just like every western company / brand. I'd even argue and say it's much easier to force kpop companies to change merch quality etc., because the Korean public is super consequential. They hear about quality not matching the price once and there's a sh*t storm happening with the company doing damage control to the highest degree. If you'd get the Korean public to condemn celebrities for using racial slurs, none of them would, because they would literally be canceled for a few years at least. Same with any other form of discrimination, but it just isn't a discussion over there. What we should definitely talk about is the amount of merch. Although the companies are only reacting to demand. Different album versions have never been this huge until profit increased and fans started obsessing over photocards.
These 1989 haters are something else. Saying it is lyrically weak when we have Blank Space, Style and I Wish You Would for examples. back in 2014-15, people were raving about Style's song structure so they need to calm it.
I'm ready to tune into my childhood country station when debut drops praying they will play songs every hour from her. Need to hear Debut like how I did when I discovered her.
Non swiftie here who listened to her ENTIRE discography last year. Most people are music first then lyrics second listeners. Not fair to her but that’s just how it is. That’s the first thing I’ve noticed with her music. It’s like she peaked sonically about ten years ago and has gone down hill a little bit with each album. Almost all of her songs from her new album quickly fell off after the first three weeks because it’s hard for a general audience to stay engaged with her music if the music sounds the way it does now. Really trying to be a bigger fan but I can’t get over the overly done synth sound to a lot of Midnights, TTPD and the re-records(I don’t listen to them because the sound quality is that noticeably bad to me and I’m new to her music but even I can hear it). Folklore/Evermore are ok sonically but I feel like she could’ve made the music MUCH MORE lively. Those albums could’ve sounded like the Lumineers and Mumford and Sons meets Fearless and Speak Now if she really wanted them to. I really liked Lavender Haze and Maroon but some of that album makes her voice sound like AI so it’s hard to want to listen to it repeatedly. I’m in my 30s so it can be hard for me to be super invested in her older work that she made as a teenager even though it sounds better. Holding out hope Reputation TV and TS12 are better.
To add to that whole “Taylor does witchcraft” nonsense, I saw someone say that the whole Willow performance was a spell. As someone who knows about actual witchcraft, I laughed. Like babe, she is just quoting lyrics from her song. That’s not a demonic ritual. 😂
idrk anything about witchcraft so correct me if i’m wrong but witchcraft isn’t based in demonic rituals right? like sure there may be demonic rituals that exist but there’s other, much more common practices too… and not everyone chooses to participate in demonic practices…
if anything she was just jumping on the witchy trend that was circulating tiktok when she wrote willow. and if she does it it, all the power to her, but it really isn’t something to get all hyped up about
This is about accepting and loving yourself , the line' l starved my body ' is heartbreaking, she tried so hard to fit in (her ED struggles are well documented) but in the end she realised she needs to be herself her own champion.... And is telling the rest of us to do it too "make the friendship bracelets take the moment and taste it" Its a lovely song.. Always makes me tear up 😢❤
Apropros how “I forgot you existed” seems out of character, the line “moving on was Always easy for me to do” in hits different always felt just as Off and her entire discogrophy disproves it
About the "moving on was always easy for me to do", I think it is actually true. I did think like you for a while, but I heard someone saying something about it that made me really rethink (it's one of the things I'm gonna say, I don't remember which one) If I'm not mistaken, Taylor has said she stays longer than she should in relationships sometimes - but even if she didn't, it definitely seems to be true - which leads to her processing the ending way before ut actually ends. Also, Taylor is such a people please that she needs to know when she's getting out of the relationship she did everything in her right to try to salvage that relationship, but while doing it, you're also accepting it is over, you just need to be sure you tried to make things work in all ways possible and after that walking away with your mind clear knowing you tried. I think what I said could stand on its own, but I'm not sure it was written in the best way (English is not my first language and I'm in a very very loud place which is very close to give me a headache), but jf it's not enough, I think You're Losing Me proves it. Even Tolerate It, honestly. It shows clearly to me that she's doing everything she can while she also knows it really is over and there's no going back. You're Losing Me sounds a lot like the "I know it's over but it's not over yet" song to me. I could however be projecting a bit too much because I'm a people please and lately I had a "fall out" with my best friend that once was the person I most trusted in the whole world, and during that conversation I was trying but I knew it was over, but I think I've been thinking this even before that happened, so.... I don't know
“Long story short it was the wrong… turkey” is now the official lyrics for me. Also i was hoping to see your reaction and thoughts about the supposedly leaked/misprinted “Slut!” Lyrics and collab with Matty Healy.
OMG you're so true about Lover Album. I think she was really trying to create her image that her life is all happy, despite Kim & Kanye and Scooter owning her masters drama. She wanted to not be seen as this vile snake anymore. She didn't wanna be savage. She wanted to portray that her life with Joe is really fun and happy and she can be a happy person as well. But on the inside she was dying during Lover Album. And thats why, right after that, we had the saddest album ever.. Folklore.. Since she was creating those sad songs of Folklore all the time while making and promoting Lover album. "I forgot that you existed" was so forced & that snake turning into butterfly was really trying so hard to prove her life is good. Coz we all know "she buries hatchets but keeps maps of where she put them" so she truly never forgets her enemies haha. I feel like that's a way of protecting her image so she doesn't look weak in front of the media and they don't call her vengeful girl of reputation
i think it’s really interesting when you said lover was an album that seemed like it as for kids; when i talk to younger swifties or newer swifties their favorite album is almost always lover (or folklore at that) and that is verryyy strange to me. their favorite songs are always i forgot that you existed or even cornelia street lol. i think that very much shows what taylor was trying to do with that album and it’s very interesting
their least favorite albums are also always Red for some reason, and im really really curious why. generally red has more emotionally complex themes and it illustrates a transition from youth to adulthood in such a sad way that younger fans dont gravitate toward it as much. for example Sad Beautiful Tragic and Begin Again, even State of Grace
😭😭😭… i listened to all her albums and my favourite album is lover and my least favourite album is red… 😭. And my fav song is Cornelia street … why did both these comments just describe me 😭
not an unpopular opinion but an observation really; all of the newer swifties seem to have all the same favorite songs?? like they can’t form their own opinions about taylor and HAVE to stand by her with everything she says when that’s simply not true
In the spirit of fair criticism, I'll say: I think is really mean how the Swiftie community treats Taylor's exes. We all have exes. It's ok. We don't need the slander. At least Zach is consistent: he has hated Joe since the beginning but it doesn't sit well with me how the whole fandom turns around so quickly once "we" decided someone is not worthy of Taylor. They are human beings, I believe they deserve an ounce of respect. Also, PLEASE, talk about Scott Swift's leaked emails 😂😂😂😂😂
everybody keeps saying how good 'you're losing me' is because it's sad and fills in any blanks about the turkey but it really isn't that great of a song. I find the melody of the verses genuinely annoying to listen to and there is some weird vocal fx where her voice sounds slightly robotic. I think as swifties we focus too much on lyrics and the extended tayLORE that we forget about the elements of what makes a good song.
11:25 I would’ve made lover as an inverted (right word?) reputation. The vibe of rep was dark with undercurrents of romance and love, lover should’ve have been lighter but with darker undercurrents like you mentioned with afterglow, dbatc etc.
I think "Dear Reader" & "Mastermind" is a very real and risky song. She basically blurted out everything about her life there. All secrets. So its very much real. Midnights wasn't guarded at all.
After watching the Era's tour 3 times at the movies, I came to the conclusion that the show is pretty perfectly paced. The evermore set is slow and is at the start, however, the witchy aspect is mesmerising, more importantly though, the start of the show builds slowly so the Rep and 1989 Era's can shine. I found that once they came, rather than being over the show and ready to strap on my cowboy boots and go home, the opposite is occurring and the adrenaline peaks right at the end. I 100 agree about the Red era. The lyrics are as superb as Evermore/Folklore and way ahead of it's time. I loved Red. The mashup idea for sure, and we needed a deep song from Red apart from Red10 which wasn't an OG song anyway. Holy Ground YES,
Thanks for always having such well thought out and put together videos, even for the more fun ones like these. Also, I died at “FLOP! Heirloom turkey”!
I absolutely adore your videos! I’ve been a swiftie since I was 6 (I’m 19 now!) and your videos are genuinely a breath of fresh air. I’ve been very invested in her music for years. However I never really delved too far into her as a person. And your realistic and down to earth perspective on her has been such a fun way to learn more about her! ^^
Enchanted deserves to be part of the set list. Its great to be performed live... Perfect for sing along, specially the "pls dnt be in love with smone esle"
I feel like her style this year was awesome. You dont need cohesion. She can be really good at trying new things. I don't like one theme. Its good to have new styles tried
I think people theorizing that Taylor and Travis are going to get engaged/married/pregnant etc are fucking insane like they just started dating people very rarely get engaged after months of dating and when they do it doesn’t end well. If it was with the heirloom turkey I honestly would’ve seen the vision unfortunately because they were together for forever even though half of it probably was for lack of a better word toxic and they just never got to break it off until they did if that makes sense
and it’s so weird how some people are comparing Travis & Joe Alwyn and villainizing Joe. We don’t know what really happened between Taylor & Joe, and he was there for her through a dark time in her life and when she was getting so much hate on the internet. Maybe they wanted different things in life or perhaps Joe wanted to get married sooner and Taylor wanted to focus on her career. But ultimately it’s none of our business, and there isn’t proof that Joe is a bad guy. People loved Joe when him & Taylor were together but now that they broke up they switched up on him. I just wonder if they will do the same thing with Travis if him & Taylor break up. I hope for the best for Taylor & Travis though. They are a Sagittarius & Libra couple so their signs are compatible! Bottom line is that you can be happy for Taylor & Travis without bashing Joe
@@um7239 that’s your loss but my point is that you can be happy for Taylor & Travis without bashing Joe. We don’t know what really happens behind closed doors
i know this is very off-topic but it would be very interesting to see you take on the GYPSY ROSE BLANCHARD and how famous she is getting on social media and tik tok, as well as the portrayal of her story on the tv show “The Act” with Joey King on it.
I love Swiftologist's take on the Lover album. I actually really enjoy this album, but I agree that calling it cruel summer would have been better. The pastel sort of marketing really turned me off. It took me like a whole year to come back and listen to it after it came out.
I think Midnights feeling more real to that person is valid because it features the first song explicitly addressing depression, narcissism, self hate (Anti-Hero) and taking a more internal look at her lived experiences and also reevaluating her past conceptions of love. Most of us don’t live in a fairytale world of black and white good guys and bad guys and so this album really addresses the gray area of how she views herself and her relationships and her place in the world, which is more real to the average person.
i can watch you talk all day thank you for always keeping your mind intact with all these opinions but at the end of the day you get the last word and we are here for it !!!
my unpopular opinion 1989 tv was underwhelming it’s her biggest album and she only has one chance to re-record i wish she made it more of a special occasion in terms of aesthetic and rollout. I like that we got more details from lyrics but i lowkey wanted more 1989 upbeat pop bangers some of the vaults were giving midnights 😭
Always agree with the exception of BTTWS on midnights. IF it’s from the first person and not a story written for someone else, it’s the most revealing song she’s written if you went through the same thing.
I don’t always have the same opinions as you do, in fact sometimes I even have opposing ones. But I do have to say, I quite appreciate the depths and nuances you go through, to make and present your opinions. Taking the time and effort to be nuanced and trying to view sth as popular as Taylor Swift and the things she does/ writes in a neutral or controversial way has become rare this times. And I quite like it.
Did Taylor lean into a childlike aesthetic with lover because she was considering having kids with Joe and wanted something that her kids would be able to enjoy? A lot of actors talk about how they take roles there kids would like, and she may have been in a mindset where she thought she’d have kids soon
I don't think so because she said in Miss Americana that she isn't ready for that kind of stuff. My theory: She was approaching 30, she was scared of aging and being considered a geriatric pop star. So she wanted to seem as youthful as possible.
@@nilay_nur I mean it worked in the weirdest way possible. Went to the 2nd Bay Area show for Eras Tour and a lot of Gen Alpha kids were there happy af.
As of Grammy month, I would love your thoughts on the Taylor wins and the discourse around them, specially 1989 as it was running against one of the most acclaimed albums of this century
My unpopular opinion is that this love has the most underrated bridge in Taylor's discography-the vocals and melody are so beautiful and it's my favorite part of the song
28:36 as someone in academia, she exists as a great case study in cultural studies and analysis of her is important- the classes haven’t quite got it right yet imo. The course should be “Taylor Swift: what makes a 21st century pop culture icon?” because every inch of her professional life has been building up to this- she’s told us ‘none of this was accidental’- so what goes into that? What does that tell us about the popular art we consume? What is authenticity in an individual when that individual also co-exists as brand to sell product? I’ve had people scoff at me for nearly a decade about this- BUT every essay I’ve ever written on her has received an A+. The academic snootiness, i believe, is fully rooted in misogyny.
@@imawakemymindisalive13 I’m doing my PhD in Communications and Social Sciences 😊 I make the ‘in academia’ distinction because I’m not a professor yet but they’re paying me to do my research now rather than me paying them
Bigger Than the Whole Sky really reminded me of the emotions I felt when I suffered my miscarriage. I was struck by it as soon as I heard it, it’s uncanny how similar her emotions were to mine, even the lyrics were similar to things I’d say afterwards, and I feel like that’s a pretty unique emotional experience. I haven’t stopped listening to it since. It’s so similar to how I felt, it make me question what the song is really about, and I won’t speculate on that but it’s really confusing. I’d like to hear something about it.
First, I’m so sorry for your loss, and I hope you have received whatever support needed in your bereavement. ❤️🩹 I’m glad the song validates your emotions and hope it reminds you that you’re not alone. To add another perspective, I relate strongly to it as someone who’s never had a miscarriage, but lost someone I love seven years ago in young adulthood. At first, someone could ask me what he would have thought about a topic, and I could make a confident guess, but the more time passes and I go through life stages he didn’t get to experience, even as the grief is less raw, the more I grieve that I don’t know who he would be today or what he would think about something. I grieve not just the person he was, but the person who could have and would have and should have been that I will never meet. I see our friends land their dream jobs, get engaged, get married, have children, or even just…post a book review, talk about a new album…and I celebrate it while grieving and saying goodbye again to the man who might have been a part of it all, but we’ll never know. I also relate to it as an adult child of an addict, who, for a short time, had a wonderful parent (who, to the child I was, was my whole world, who was ‘to the moon and back and back and to infinity and beyond’) who I love, but I’ve had to separate that person from the one I’m dealing with now to protect myself. I grieve what could have been, and what we both needed but didn’t get and can never get back. I grieve alone, with no death and no funeral, but undoubtedly there was a life that could have happened that didn’t. I desperately miss someone that no one else knows is gone, or doesn’t remember ever existing, and I grieve who I might have been without the trauma I experienced at such a pivotal time in my life. I read someone theorize that BTTWS is a sister song to WCS because of the use of “would have been, could have been, should have been,” and that the loss she’s referring to is the innocence and naïveté lost in WCS (“give me back my girlhood, it was mine first,” and she speaks of death metaphorically with “if clarity’s in death than why won’t this die?”), and I could see that, too. All that is to say, I get why it resonates with so many people who experienced miscarriage or stillbirth, because it describes so well the feelings I’ve heard expressed by the people I know who’ve been through it, but I also see how it could be about several kinds of grief. I’ll admit I’m curious about her inspiration for the song, but whatever kind of loss it’s about for her (or whose loss it is about), it will continue to be about a lot of things for the people it resonates with (which Taylor has said is the reason she rarely names what exactly a song is about, so it can continue to apply to the most number of people).
A lot of these are incredibly popular opinions on TikTok. As for the lit classes - people have been doing this for a long time to engage students. We learned how to analyze poetry with Green Day and Fiona Apple lyrics in my 11th grade HS English class
I STRONGLY disagree about Marjorie. It's such a universal song about losing a grandparent...especially a grandmother. Wishing you could have asked the questions you didn't care about while they were alive 😢
I disagree entirely with the evermore opinion tbh. I honestly didn’t care much for the upbeat songs from evermore. Think people are under the misconception that bc it’s a concert it needs to be upbeat songs to get the crowd in the mood but we gotta take into account that it’s over 3 hours and she needs eras like folklore and evermore to be sandwiched between the more upbeat and pop heavy eras so she can have a breather. The evermore set is perfect for me, also agree with the red opinion of cutting down the hits to have other songs.
Possibly unpopular opinion: Taylor recently reminiscing about Harry Styles in Question isn’t exactly her having residual feels for him, but their public relationship. She obviously felt locked up in her relationship with Joe and couldn’t help but yearn for something a bit more public and… messy.
I don't know why yt recommended me a video of yours but I'm so glad it did. I'm not a Swifty by any stretch of the imagination but I am a sucker for thoughtful, detailed, analytical and eloquent discussion on any topic. Like "geeking out - elevated". I want to read between the lines, I want the content to create an aha! moment in my brain, I want to leave more knowledgable thanI was before. I want to hear skillfully built arguments backed with references. I want to hear self-aware criticism on a topic. And that's what you serve. And that's why I've been binging your videos for the past couple of days.😅 What I appreciate the most is the consistent quality across video because I haven't come across any duds (yet? I hope I won't!!!). I thoroughly dislike having to sift through content endlessly just to find something worth my time. I probably spend an unreasonable amount of time researching books to read because studying English language and literature "ruined mediocre writing" for me😆 But here I can relax and click "play" and get swept away without monitoring for the signs of duds. To be fair, I have listened to TS quite a bit after Midnights came out - that album is my vibe. Then I discovered Evermore and Folklore which I also like. I don't really listen to her earlier stuff. Of course I know the songs. But I'm 3 years older than her and married my high school sweetheart, and country music also isn't my thing, so... just not my vibe or topics. However, I have always admired her song writing skills and lyrics. So anyway, thank you for providing my overactive and wandering brain another home on the internet❤️
The type of Christian that says the willow music video is "about witchcraft" were the type of people that sent Emma Watson Bibles when she was 11 on the set of Harry Potter.
26:54 love you but disagree w/ this part. being the pick me girl is as part as taylor's lore as being the perpetual under dog ("she wears short skirts I wear t-shirts" is just the more obvious one)
Hmm, I’d say being the underdog is a bit different from a pick me girl, but I agree that maybe until 1989 she was a little “pick me”. I think it’s well illustrated narratively by her being up against the cheerleader in You Belong With Me, to her being the cheerleader in Shake it Off. In her early work, she would lose to the popular hot girl, but in 1989, she grew up and became the hot popular girl. Something like that haha But for me the “pick me” thing is more about being like “look at me, I’m So Different from everyone else”, while the underdog, you don’t have to be like that to be in that position, like with Taylor, with Snakegate and the masters situation, she was the underdog without having to be a “pick me”, I think. But she does paint herself as the underdog without being one, sometimes.
This is one that`s gonna get people fired up - When she collaborates with Jack, her melodies tend to be a bit boring, repetitive and uninspired. I want her to go back to making more melodic songs
hi, can you give an example of her more interesting melodies and a less interesting one? i dont know much about music in this regard so i just wanna listen for a difference😭
@@beastmode8792 I think it comes down to personal preference, but what I meant by it was - that a lot of times when she works with Jack, it doesn't really sound like she's singing, it sounds like she's just talking on pitch. That worked really well on 1989, but it's gotten progressively worse over time. So, for more interesting melodies, I would recommend anything from Debut to Red, and then, Folklore and Evermore. And of course, the least interesting melodies can be found on 1989, (Which is the only case in which I think they work *really* well) Reputation, Lover and Midnights
@@GhostOfEvermore That makes sense, I've noticed that what I pointed out also comes up in the tracks he's produced for Lorde, but I'm not as familiar with her material as I am with Taylor's
@@JustAnOrdinaryDemiGuy Wait you might be right. When he worked with St. Vincent for Masseduction, her style of singing and melodies did change a lot. Turned more into sing-talking as you mentioned with less creative melodies. It worked that time because it was still during his production prime (2012-2017) but now I feel like he's overworked and completely dried of his creative capacity.
My unpopular opinion is that Travis being given complete support is not deserved. I believe that playboys always get the charm to steal any girls heart and get much support compared to the genuine men. I think he’s more childish than any of Taylor’s exes which may be the reason why their relationship is healthy Taylor giving Travis a hickey is so teenage dirtbag
Why no one talks about _Hits Differently_ when talking about the 3 a.m edition? 😢 It was a jump scare at the beginning of the year, it was an easter egg about how she was just about to deep fry the turkey, it was a suspense terror soundtrack, it was a moment, it was a cultural reset 😯
Omg yes the 10 min LIVE on SNL was amazing!!!!!! Same with the Live of Dear John when she had the blue dress on... They are songs that really differ with seeing facial expression for the Draaaaaama of it all!
Taylor's sense of style, or lack there of, is an interesting one. I think much like her music, her fashion style is fragmented & chameleon-esque. She shape shifts & likes to experiment. Reminds me of Bowie in a way.
One thing about swiftologist, and all of the worlds chefs. He loves to cook. Great video!! The idea of making a video about the Grammys snubs sounds amazing and you should totally do it.
i must confess that as an international brazilian fan, the eras tour dates here were a very chaotic moment in the fandom, and the way her and her team dealed with it was very disappointing, i don't think she DOESN'T CARE ABOUT INTERNATIONAL FANS, but i do believe there is some kind of huge preference for the US fanbase
@@gracekizer7149 during the first concert here the organization was poorly done, considering the heat in rio de janeiro on that day, one fan sadly passed away because of the heat, DURING the show, inside of the venue. taylor's statement about this was very distanced and cold, she didn't even mentioned ana's (the fan) name. her team did not provide any finantial help for the family to transport the body from rio to her hometown (they didn't have the money to it). the only two things that made me feel like a personal and caring tribute was being made was her singing bigger than the whole sky on the next concert and giving ana's family vip tickets for the last concert in são paulo. LISTEN, i don't mean to place blame in taylor, t4f (the organization company) holds 100% of the blame for the tragedies, but it felt very inhunman of her and her team of not speaking clearly about it, seeing that one of taylor's brands is that she is really caring and protective of her fans. anyway...
I also think she and her team didn't deal with the shows and passing of Ana right. TaylorNation posted about Taylor being dominated in some awards, I feel it was very disrespectful. Also in the Mexico show she said that have always wanted to "perform in Mexico City" which to me sound like she didn't do her homework understanding that she has fans in all Mexico. You're not only visiting a city but a whole country
"the martians abducted Taylor in the middle of the night and they beamed Cruel Summer into her brain and then she came back to Earth and wrote it" is the inspiration to Down Bad, I'm convinced.
okay I agree with the one about the 3am tracks… maybe it’s because they do feel more vulnerable and real to me than the rest of Midnights. but I immediately loved those songs more than most of the rest of the album 🫣
Hi Zach! I just rewatch the Reputation Tour, after attending The Eras Tour, and I can't ignore the fact that Rep Tour was such a miss opportunity! It just was, the set list, the amound of time lost in talking and other unnecessary moments! HOW WOULD YOU FIXED IT??? PS: the intro for getaway car was perfect!
also, sorry to double comment with something unrelated, but I'm excited for the grammy commentary - the artist Laufey deserved to be nominated! gorgeous sound, as someone with good taste you and maddy would love her!
After 6 long years we are heading into a new beautiful year completely free of the heirloom turkey, cheers to that 🥂 I look forward to see what the HBIC has in store for us in 2024, as well as potential live version of the Evolution of a Snake podcast in London! Happy New Years Zack, thank for all the great content this year! 🎉
What are the predictions from the Swiftologist regarding the re-record of the debut album? Will she change the lyrics in ‘picture to burn’ like she did in ‘better than revenge’? Or maybe a collaboration with Tim McGraw?
I'm not getting my hopes up too much, but I'm really hoping for a collaboration with Zach Bryan or Megan Moroney. I feel like either of these newer country artists can bring a lot of depth to a song to a vault track while also giving appreciation to newer artists a voice like she has been doing lately with Chris Stapleton, Ice, Big Red Machine as a duo, etc.
I don't even know if this is an unpopular opinion, and I am not really invested in Taylor lore even if she was my most listened artist this year. But anyway, Folklore and Evermore are her best albums, banger after banger. Yes, all of her albums does have really good songs but not to the level of these two masterpieces. The lyrics, the music, the poetry, everything. Every damn song should have billions of listens. There both so beautiful. I actually worry that she will never be able to top them for me.

literally so real, im not a joe hater but im not a stan either like tbh joe stans are kinda blind to the fact that he's never been famous lol
OMG the swiftologist continues to slay and feed his children 🥹 we stan we cheered we clapped
Yes, the Swiftologist serving👏👏👏
we are getting spoiled 👏
True it’s the only channel I care about at this point

Fainting crying throwing up
The swiftologist is FEEDING us lately! we thank you
thank you for tuning in!!
I love I Forgot that You Existed. It's really fun to sing along to and I think it's obvious that she didn't forget or she wouldn't be singing about it but I see this song as one where she's no longer obsessing over how he did her wrong and she was able to go through her day, week, months without thinking about him.
You get it!!! 👍
At this point, no Taylor Swift opinion is that unpopular. There's always someone out there who will agree with you.
Also would love to see a deep dive at some point into the chicks, how their career was destroyed and how they rebounded with taking the long way (won album of the year 2007) and especially gaslighter (produced excellently by jack antonoff 🤗)
would lOOOOOOOVE to do a gaslighter video at some point this year
i need taylor to take dolly partons route when it comes to the billionaire thing. dolly could have EASILY become a billionaire by now, BUT she gives away insane amounts of money every year and runs a massive charity.
EDIT: i know taylor does a lot of charity!!! i’m saying dolly gives away enough money a year to not be a billionaire WITH A DAMN THEME PARK. AND SHE STILL HAS MORE MONEY THEN SHE COULD EVER SPEND!!! being a billionaire is unethical, and you CAN not be one by simply giving enough away to
stay a 800 millionaire
Eh idk yes Dolly is always donating but she’s still a billionaire
Taylor gives people in need money all the time, usually someone else blabs about it,like she recently gave ALOT of money to tornado victims.Shes usually secretive about it because people get mad at her for some reason when she’s charitable.
I guess you must have skipped that part where she donated to food banks in every single city she's been to in America on her Era's tour.
@@TheLowJacqNo one said she’s not charitable. She’s just not charitable enough to not become a billionaire.
@@vgs1259 THANK YOU EXACTLY! and this doesn’t make taylor a bad person, i just think she hasn’t truly thought about the ethics of being a billionaire, and why she should be giving away enough money to not be one. because at the end of the day, she couldn’t spend even half her wealth in a lifetime if she wanted to
“the wrong…turkey”- and the swiftologist has done it again😭💀
This could also be connected to every other mainstream artists
You need to start with Kpop first
@@aidentan6547I don't really understand what kpop has to do with this.
I Love 1989 Taylor’s version , I started streaming it today again after Finishing Red Taylor’s version streaming all the Taylor Swift album
I remember watching Vox's infographic on the structure of Style, that was a moment, lol
I miss her country-pop songs… I know old school, but it is, what it is.
Hopefully Debut Taylor's version brings us some country pop bops!
Debut vault tracks for sure
I really liked Lavender Haze and Maroon but some of
that album makes her voice sound like AI so it’s hard to want to listen to it repeatedly.
idrk anything about witchcraft so correct me if i’m wrong but witchcraft isn’t based in demonic rituals right? like sure there may be demonic rituals that exist but there’s other, much more common practices too… and not everyone chooses to participate in demonic practices…
if anything she was just jumping on the witchy trend that was circulating tiktok when she wrote willow. and if she does it it, all the power to her, but it really isn’t something to get all hyped up about
@@imawakemymindisalive13no💀 witchcraft is a huge umbrella term.
This is about accepting and loving yourself , the line' l starved my body ' is heartbreaking, she tried so hard to fit in (her ED struggles are well documented) but in the end she realised she needs to be herself her own champion.... And is telling the rest of us to do it too "make the friendship bracelets take the moment and taste it"
Its a lovely song.. Always makes me tear up 😢❤
Hmmm interesting take...I wonder what you would think about my comment that I wrote explaining how I interpret "You're On Your Own, Kid?"
Apropros how “I forgot you existed” seems out of character, the line “moving on was Always easy for me to do” in hits different always felt just as Off and her entire discogrophy disproves it
About the "moving on was always easy for me to do", I think it is actually true. I did think like you for a while, but I heard someone saying something about it that made me really rethink (it's one of the things I'm gonna say, I don't remember which one)
If I'm not mistaken, Taylor has said she stays longer than she should in relationships sometimes - but even if she didn't, it definitely seems to be true - which leads to her processing the ending way before ut actually ends.

And my fav song is Cornelia street … why did both these comments just describe me 😭
@@beastmode8792tbh I’m a younger fan, and red really describes some of my life, and the album is of my favs
RESPECT Swiftologist, dealing with swifties is a DANGEROUS game, yet as always you performed ✨️flawlessly ✨️
not an unpopular opinion but an observation really; all of the newer swifties seem to have all the same favorite songs?? like they can’t form their own opinions about taylor and HAVE to stand by her with everything she says when that’s simply not true
"Taylor is, with the EXCEPTION☝️ of Better Than Revenge, a girl's girl" LMAO🤣🤣🤣
In the spirit of fair criticism, I'll say: I think is really mean how the Swiftie community treats Taylor's exes. We all have exes. It's ok. We don't need the slander. At least Zach is consistent: he has hated Joe since the beginning but it doesn't sit well with me how the whole fandom turns around so quickly once "we" decided someone is not worthy of Taylor. They are human beings, I believe they deserve an ounce of respect.
Also, PLEASE, talk about Scott Swift's leaked emails 😂😂😂😂😂
Wait what emails?
lmfaooooo
What emails?
What emails? 👀
@@donardodavinci6126 oh bestie... the emails LEAKED IN HIS LAWSUIT WITH TAYLOR'S FIRST MANAGER WHERE HE SAYS HIS DICK DOESN'T WORK 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
everybody keeps saying how good 'you're losing me' is because it's sad and fills in any blanks about the turkey but it really isn't that great of a song.
I think you described why I like midnights so much.
Heirloom turkey”!
thank you for watching
I absolutely adore your videos! I’ve been a swiftie since I was 6 (I’m 19 now!) and your videos are genuinely a breath of fresh air. I’ve been very invested in her music for years. However I never really delved too far into her as a person. And your realistic and down to earth perspective on her has been such a fun way to learn more about her! ^^
Thank you so much!!
Happy New Year, Zach! Thanks for creating a safe, fun, analytical, critical space for us Swifties with more than one braincell!
Happy new year! thanks for tuning in!!
@@azzz7279 I’m not reading all that world salad
@@um7239 that’s your loss but my point is that you can be happy for Taylor & Travis without bashing Joe. We don’t know what really happens behind closed doors

I love how you talked about her being abducted by aliens 😭 she definitely saw that and was like… well yes
i know this is very off-topic but it would be very interesting to see you take on the GYPSY ROSE BLANCHARD and how famous she is getting on social media and tik tok, as well as the portrayal of her story on the tv show “The Act” with Joey King on it.
that has nothing to do with pop culture or music. it’s true crime. you can ask his opinion but an entire video analyzing it makes no sense.
Counterpoint: Bigger Than the Whole Sky is beautiful melancholy; You’re Losing Me is quite stilted melodically. Lyrically it’s good though.
I love this channel sm! as a newer swiftie it’s good getting all the info I need to know.

thank you for always keeping your mind intact with all these opinions but at the end of the day you get the last word and we are here for it !!!
THANK YOU for calling out the Gaylors and Conspiracy Theorists in general as dangerous. Reality denial is so accurate
my unpopular opinion 1989 tv was underwhelming it’s her biggest album and she only has one chance to re-record i wish she made it more of a special occasion in terms of aesthetic and rollout.
LOL I just searched up Joe Alwyn and your video was one of the top results next to his picture. Really shows how his career has gone
LMFAOOOOOOO
I don’t always have the same opinions as you do, in fact sometimes I even have opposing ones.
But I do have to say, I quite appreciate the depths and nuances you go through, to make and present your opinions.
Taking the time and effort to be nuanced and trying to view sth as popular as Taylor Swift and the things she does/ writes in a neutral or controversial way has become rare this times.
And I quite like it.

"Notes on Camp" explains camp as "failed seriousness"

1:23 HAHAHAHHAHAH MY FIVE YEAR OLD SON PLAYS OPPOSITE DAY 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 your remark made me cackle 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Did Taylor lean into a childlike aesthetic with lover because she was considering having kids with Joe and wanted something that her kids would be able to enjoy? A lot of actors talk about how they take roles there kids would like, and she may have been in a mindset where she thought she’d have kids soon
It was really more of a 180 degree turn after reputation wasn't well received
I don't think so because she said in Miss Americana that she isn't ready for that kind of stuff.
My theory: She was approaching 30, she was scared of aging and being considered a geriatric pop star. So she wanted to seem as youthful as possible.
@@nilay_nur I mean it worked in the weirdest way possible. Went to the 2nd Bay Area show for Eras Tour and a lot of Gen Alpha kids were there happy af.

As of Grammy month, I would love your thoughts on the Taylor wins and the discourse around them, specially 1989 as it was running against one of the most acclaimed albums of this century
very good idea!!!!
My unpopular opinion is that this love has the most underrated bridge in Taylor's discography-the vocals and melody are so beautiful and it's my favorite part of the song
Also I love all your content and look forward to videos/podcasts to hear your input on pop culture and taylor!! Happy New year!!!
Nah
The academic snootiness, i believe, is fully rooted in misogyny.
what is someone in academia 😭😭😭😭😭 i’m a student, does that count? or do you have to be a professor?
@@imawakemymindisalive13 I’m doing my PhD in Communications and Social Sciences 😊

Agree!!!!!
The evermore set is perfect for me, also agree with the red opinion of cutting down the hits to have other songs.
everyone wake up swiftologist posted
Slay, dear! Your videos and rewatching Gilmore girls will carry me into 2024 🥂
omg two great series!!
And that's why I've been binging your videos for the past couple of days.😅
What I appreciate the most is the consistent quality across video because I haven't come across any duds (yet? I hope I won't!!!). I thoroughly dislike having to sift through content endlessly just to find something worth my time. I probably spend an unreasonable amount of time researching books to read because studying English language and literature "ruined mediocre writing" for me😆
But here I can relax and click "play" and get swept away without monitoring for the signs of duds.
May I know why Joe is nicknamed Heirloom turkey?
the woman gave us her heartbeat to tell about her heartbreak and people dare say you’re losing me isn’t top 3 in midnights
Something like that haha
But for me the “pick me” thing is more about being like “look at me, I’m So Different from everyone else”, while the underdog, you don’t have to be like that to be in that position, like with Taylor, with Snakegate and the masters situation, she was the underdog without having to be a “pick me”, I think. But she does paint herself as the underdog without being one, sometimes.
You are so right about Cruel Summer, as soon as I hear it come on I'm just like "buckle up, here we go".
Writing a song titled " I forgot that you existed" means,no I didn't forget and never will😊
midnights is my fav album and it hurts me seeing the hate☺️💔
I think he’s more childish than any of Taylor’s exes which may be the reason why their relationship is healthy
Taylor giving Travis a hickey is so teenage dirtbag
Why no one talks about _Hits Differently_ when talking about the 3 a.m edition? 😢
It was a jump scare at the beginning of the year, it was an easter egg about how she was just about to deep fry the turkey, it was a suspense terror soundtrack, it was a moment, it was a cultural reset 😯
well its called hits different firstly
Goddam it 🤡
Unpopular Opinion: Slut! ft The 1975 should've been on 1989 (Taylor's Version)

Heirloom Turkey ADDICTION *chuckle*
it makes me so happy that everytime i watch a new video you get more and more subscribers! so deserved
Omg yes the 10 min LIVE on SNL was amazing!!!!!! Same with the Live of Dear John when she had the blue dress on... They are songs that really differ with seeing facial expression for the Draaaaaama of it all!
Can we talk about the title card? It's just so beige. Swiftologist is just way too cool and interesting for a beige title card.
LMAO it was just something new I was trying!!
Pls start doing chapters on videos again it’s so useful thx zach 😊
will dooooo
Okay, so I totally get the vibe of “heirloom turkey” and agree but I somehow missed the origin and I need to be educated 😅
i swear zack i can always sense when you post, getting ready for incoming serve
I love heirloom turkey slander, it is so wonderful! LOL😂
its my joy
Taylor's sense of style, or lack there of, is an interesting one. I think much like her music, her fashion style is fragmented & chameleon-esque. She shape shifts & likes to experiment. Reminds me of Bowie in a way.
love these videos! we stan
thanks for watchingggg
One thing about swiftologist, and all of the worlds chefs. He loves to cook. Great video!! The idea of making a video about the Grammys snubs sounds amazing and you should totally do it.
i must confess that as an international brazilian fan, the eras tour dates here were a very chaotic moment in the fandom, and the way her and her team dealed with it was very disappointing, i don't think she DOESN'T CARE ABOUT INTERNATIONAL FANS, but i do believe there is some kind of huge preference for the US fanbase
What are you even talking about?
I used to think the lyrics to ready for it were ‘baby like diggings we get’ not ‘baby let the games begin’
PS: the intro for getaway car was perfect!
ooooh there's lots of stuff I would fix!!! a future video for sure
@@theswiftologist can't wait!
Justice for Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince as the Eras opener. Not Cruel Summer (2nd song).
"I need to go to hospital now" I'm cackling 🤣
This was amazing, thank you Zack!!
Zack, you’re really rocketing 🚀 up the subscribers now, kiddo!! So so proud of your hard work!
thank you!!
31:00 he manifested "Down Bad" omg
also, sorry to double comment with something unrelated, but I'm excited for the grammy commentary - the artist Laufey deserved to be nominated! gorgeous sound, as someone with good taste you and maddy would love her!
Thank you for the rec !!! I've heard great things, will check her out
After 6 long years we are heading into a new beautiful year completely free of the heirloom turkey, cheers to that 🥂 I look forward to see what the HBIC has in store for us in 2024, as well as potential live version of the Evolution of a Snake podcast in London! Happy New Years Zack, thank for all the great content this year! 🎉
OMG PLS CONTINUE THIS
this is the never ending series
AMAZING
I need a video where you explain every moment Jack Antinoff jacked up a song!!!!!
What are the predictions from the Swiftologist regarding the re-record of the debut album? Will she change the lyrics in ‘picture to burn’ like she did in ‘better than revenge’? Or maybe a collaboration with Tim McGraw?
She already did.
I don't know why people keep wondering that tbh she's already changed the picture to burn lyrics so Idk why she would re record the original lyrics
The alien theory makes sense with Cruel Summer 😂❤
