    Actually it seems a university in Japan created a blue Phalaenopsis through genetic modification back in 2013. You can see videos of it in exhibitions if you search 青い胡蝶蘭. It's been a while but I hope they can eventually make this variant available to buy, because I would love a blue orchid (with a blue that stays!) that is easy to grow in the home.

    Hey Amanda, your video is super useful thanks for making it. I brought blue orchids from the same brand you showed us in video, about 4 weeks ago. The flowers fell off within a week and the stems looked pale. So I opened up the pot and saw that the potting was very tight and the roots kind of hold tight I thought they are getting bad so I cut most of them off. I really want to save my plant I also cut the stems which were drying. I know orchid will take time to grow its stem and bloom but it's been 3 weeks that I have cut the roots and stem I don't see any improvement in my plant. It has some soil and barks so I am thinking of buying sphagnum moss from Amazon. I currently live in Canadai would greatly appreciate if can you share some tips which I can use to help my plant to stay healthy.. thanks 😊

      Hi Vidya, Thank you for the comment. Orchids take a long time to react to any changes (both good and bad) so don't except results right away. You did the right thing by cutting off the spike and repotting it. Sphagnum and orchid bark work great together but I don't know what brands they have in Canada, so I can't recommend one. Usually if it is from New Zealand, says Long Fibered, or has AAA written on it, it's a good brand. Every repot sets the orchid back a bit, so it might take a few months to see some changes, but it looks like your on the right track. The orchid likes to be root bound, so make sure you didn't repot it in a pot that is too big.

    Hi Amanda ... love the video especially the "fake blue" was quite entertaining. Thankfully in my neck of the woods, this would not happen - ever!! This is because orchids are not common here, as yet! We do have other blue flowers; plumbago, hydrangea, zinnia and a few other blues. Midnight really loves you!!
    "Tea soaking" seems to be doing wonders for my orchids - they ALL have keikis, and the ones which are sprouting "nubs" (dendrobium) seem to be keikis on the stem, with tiny roots!! Still monitoring them. My two phals are also sprouting nubs which I think are new roots. No bloom spikes as yet. Midnight really loves you!!
    Just today, I'm thinking I need to make myself a "Fertiliser Schedule Sheet" as one of my dendrobiums seem to be in dire need of an "Epsom Soak" - the leaves are purplish/greenish, but the stalk is a healthy bright green. I have pencilled in next week Wednesday for this then again in May. Did I mention that Midnight loves you?

    • @Orchideria
      @Orchideria  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lyn! I absolutely love your comments! I am so glad that the tea method is working well.
      When I lived overseas in Brazil, we had blue hydrangea all up and down the driveway. They were beautiful and huge. I don't know the other flowers you mentioned.
      As for writing things down, I'm working on a journal or a diary-type notebook since I also looked for something to keep track of fertilizing, but didn't find one.
      As for Midnight, the next video coming out on Saturday is about her. :)

    The bluest natural blue orchids that I’ve seen is the blue form of Dendrobium Victoria reginae. Actually I had it before. Unfortunately it didn’t survive the flactuating climate of Northern California.

    I just bought a blue and white orchid. It’s not blue -_- it was injected with dye as well 😦😬 i still love white orchids but what a deception. I didn’t even know orchid color could be changed that way. Thanks for the informative video

      Hi Arioska Guzman, I know the feeling! It's such a sad realization about the blue dye, but it is a great way to start orchid care and get into other orchids. In my opinion, the white orchid will be just as pretty when it reblooms.

    I need your help. I just received a Cattleya Pot. Netrasiri Starbright with all healthy green leaves and pseudobulbs, except one purple one. Is the purple one suffering for frostbite or an infection? Should I remove it? This one purple pseudobulb with its purple leaves looks healthy, except for the color--the color is not black, but purely purple.

    • @Orchideria
      @Orchideria  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, and one more thing I forgot to mention. If the flower on your Netrasiri Starbright is a darker orange (more so than yellow) then it might be normal to have the purple tones in the pseudobulb. If it is a more mature pseudobulb, it's not that normal, so I'm assuming it's a newer growth. If it's an older growth, my guess would be that it's not getting enough nutrients to form chlorophyll, and needs an upgrade in fertilization. These things would all tend to a purple-toned pseudobulb.

      @@Orchideria I need your help. Have 2 of my orchids with yellow leaves and one that all the leaves are looking thin and no so green

    • @Orchideria
      @Orchideria  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Corgie, If all the leaves are a pale yellow, it might mean that they are in too bright of a light. If they don't have black spots on them, it might not be a fungus or bacteria, but if they do, you'll need to treat them. the most common bactericide is Physan 20, which will treat most all orchid problems. If the yellow is a bright yellow, then it means that the fertilizer is too strong or that the pH is not correct. It could mean a lot of things, but those are the most common.

    • @marciabuchanan-blair776
      @marciabuchanan-blair776 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Orchideria thank you for responding. They are bright yellow I really don't use fertilizer. I used dry banana skin on them some months ago. The tired looking one looks like it needs hydrated so I put it into tea water it's slow going . I put it in tea at nights and dry out in the day until the leaves come back to bright green and healthy. Is this the correct way

    mean people! why injecting ??? :(

    • @Orchideria
      @Orchideria  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Everything is for money... It sells. Some of the companies that first started would inject too much and end up killing the orchid because the dye seeped into the leaves. Now they perfected it, so it doesn't hurt the orchid, but I'm sure its not the best for the plant.

    The name of the species is Thelymitra crinita (not crinite). There are many blue-flowered species in that genus. The photo in your Boella segment is another Thelymitra species.and Thelymitra species are NOT native to South America. In fact, there is no genus Boella if you look it up. Do you mean Bulbophyllum (found on all tropical continents)? You seem to be gathering information from untrustworthy sites.
