- 🔴 EN The Folk Technique Museum in Dumbrava Sibiului stands out as one of the largest open-air museums in Romania. Located south of Sibiu, it welcomes you with a view of the traditional creations of the Romanian pre-industrial civilization. Around a lake and among the trees of Dumbrăvii Sibiului, houses, workshops and building complexes spread over an area of 96 hectares.
About 300 buildings invite you to discover them, connected by 10 kilometers of alleys. Inside them, you can admire an impressive collection of over 16,000 pieces. Yes, you read that right, 16,000! And although not all of them are on display, you can find many of them in various corners of the museum.
The Folk Technique Museum came to life in 1963, a bold idea led by Cornel Irimie. However, the inspiration for this museum is not new, it being a revival of the Ethnographic-Historical Museum of Romanians in Transylvania, founded a long time ago, in 1905, but closed in 1950.
In 1967, the museum's doors opened to the public, delighting visitors with a bottom-feed hydraulic mill that became the symbol of the museum. Since then, the collection has grown continuously.
Over the years, the museum developed, and in 1971, peasant houses began to appear, along with craft workshops. And because no museum is complete without a church, school, pub and pub, in 1989 a sector dedicated to monuments of public and social utility was added.
Despite all these developments, in 1990 the museum changed its title, becoming the Museum of Traditional Popular Civilization. And so, you can enjoy a journey through time and space, among our traditions and crafts, at the Folk Technique Museum in Dumbrava Sibiului.

Brilliant looking Folk Museum. Really enjoy exploring such places. Those small windmills looked amazing. There were some lovely interior views as well. It is so important to preserve our heritage so that later generations can more readily appreciate their roots. Great setting too.

Wow Romania truly is breathtaking. Lovely lake. Love the carriages and wagons, so historic and amazing to see! The windmill looks like its right out of a storybook! And all made of wood, wow. Do you mean that you choose the music before filming or before editing? That would be very interesting! It's the opposite for me. First I film, then I look for the sequences I want to include in the video, I make the color and exposure corrections, then... I spend maybe more than an hour looking for the music😊, and finally match the sequences to the music.
