Thanks for going over the settings. I just bought one and this technology is new to me. My old one is about 18 yrs old. I went out yesterday just to practice and I went under a bridge at about 3 to 4 mph and I was still seeing the columns about 150 feet past the bridge. It frustrated me because it it was fish I wouldn’t know where they were or where to fish. My guess is that my speed setting was way off. I do have a question. How far behind the boat does the transducer usually pick up? I need to know where to place my marker. What time of the year was this video taken? Great video by the way. Thanks
It dosent exactly scan behind the boat, there’s just a cone in scans beneath the boat. You can adjust the cone in settings. Tbh I don’t mess with that all that much. Your scroll speed is what can really mess with you. The higher your scroll speed the more accurate of what your seeing on your screen is directly beneath your boat. With a slower speed you will be seeing what’s behind you which can get frustrating. Best way to mess with your settings is to drive by a object that you can see and as you pass it you can see it on your graph. Then you can adjust your speed so you when your directly over a brush pile or stump or whatever structure you’ll know when to throw a marker. At least that’s what I did and it worked out well. Hope this helps.
Thank you! That is a good idea to find an object and go by it to set the speed. It’s all new technology to me but sure hope I can find some crappie before spring using it. Thanks again for the video

Noticed you only have depth finder only at console as do I. However, I’m not catching much from my boat. Can you clarify. Ty
Ok, so the way it works. If you are in 20’ of water and you have it set on 50’ you are only scanning 30’ to the side. The other 20 account for the depth. So whatever the depth is your at you and minus that off your scanning. Hope this helps. In my mind it sounds better than how I typed it 😂.
Paul, good day buddy. Could you maybe make a small clip of you actually dropping buoy on brush with that scroll speed? I'm asking because I have the same unit and troll around 1 mph. I was told to set it to scroll speed 2. When side scanning, I am moving about 2.65 mph and I set scroll speed to 8. 8 I know is pretty accurate. However, back to DI. When I mark a pile, if my scroll speed is set too high, I'm dropping too early and I'm off by like 10 ft. Thoughts? And thanks. God bless. I haven't been able to make any videos due to on Nov 11th, I had open heart surgery.
Paul, do you have any idea what causes the picture to be grainy? Like if I zoom in even a little, I can’t make anything out. Your picture is so dang clear. I’m thinking it has to be the transducer..
Could be a few things, getting the gain/sensitivity tuned in right is a big one. Also your lake clarity. The lakes I fish are extremely clean and I believe this video was made in early spring. So there was no leaves/debris in the water. Another thing is speed. I usually and moving around 2.5-4 mph when I’m scanning. Anything over that is too much. And yes the grainy picture could be from how you have it hooked up to a power source. I have a dedicated lithium battery I use for my graphs. But at this time it was hooked up to my cranking battery. Sometimes there is interference when it’s hooked up to the trolling motor. Does the picture look clear until you turn the trolling motor on? Also do you have a dedicated battery for the graph?
@Halfsac03 having them spliced and wired together could have something to do with it. Also I know a few guys who have their transducer on the trolling motor. When it’s not running the picture is fairly clear, but once they turn it on it’s getting a lot of feedback.
Can you please tell me where your transducer is located? Is it closer to the motor? Or more on the outside edge? Thank you. Also when i try to run 455 seems like my picture is real fuzzy! Blurry.

@@Paulcatchesemall would there be any reason that you could think of why my 455 would be super bright and when i try to turn it down it don't clear up until the whole screen is almost so dark you can't even see anything. Weird.
Clear up as there’s a lot of interference on the screen? Sometimes it has to do with water conditions. But I have seen issues depending on where the power is hooked up will cause interference. Mine use to have a little interference when I had it hooked up to my cranking battery. Now I have a dedicated lithium battery that I run my graph off of and I haven’t had any issues. Also how fast are you moving? If you have side imaging or 2D or down imaging and your going over I’d say 5-8 mph the screens gonna start getting grainy with all the bubbles from the prop. Sonar works great through water but once it hits them bubbles it’s gets pretty rough. I usually am scanning at speeds anywhere between 3-5 mph for the most part.
@@Paulcatchesemall yes sir.i have mine hooked to a mighty max 15 ah battery all by itself. I honestly thinki have it to far over. It's 4" away from the outside edge. @@Paulcatchesemall I have the units wires and my black gls10 wires spliced together and ran to a separate battery just dedicated for them
@Halfsac03 having them spliced and wired together could have something to do with it. Also I know a few guys who have their transducer on the trolling motor. When it’s not running the picture is fairly clear, but once they turn it on it’s getting a lot of feedback.
@@Paulcatchesemall okay that makes sense thanks a lot man really enjoy your videos have learned alot for you keep em coming 👍🏻👍🏻
Can you please tell me where your transducer is located? Is it closer to the motor? Or more on the outside edge? Thank you. Also when i try to run 455 seems like my picture is real fuzzy! Blurry.
About 14 inches to the right of the prop. Is your picture blury when your idling? Or when your moving with some speed?
@@Paulcatchesemall well.sometimes when idling
But i only use it when i go 4mph or less.just seems like in deeper water it gets blured up and it also it just ain't as clear as it should be in general.i can tell I'm getting allot of prop. Wash as well
@@Paulcatchesemall would there be any reason that you could think of why my 455 would be super bright and when i try to turn it down it don't clear up until the whole screen is almost so dark you can't even see anything.
I think I'll scoot it closer to the outboard. And also i leveled it out of the water.i fish by myself and all the weight is on 1 side of my boat therefore it's not level while In the water. It's a small issue. I have it close. Just not 100% like i know it should be. Thank you for your time and you're responses. Stay safe buddy. The ice is getting bad here in Cabot.
Was that a yellow twister tail you were throwing?
The only jig I seen in this video was in the beginning. If I’m not mistaken it’s a Bobby garland baby shad mayfly jig.
Is this with the GT54 transducer?
Yes
Had my 93sv uhd looking great then instantly went grainy. Any idea what would cause it?
Is it always grainy now? Or when your Trolling motor/ outboard running? Sometimes there can be interference, is it connected to its own dedicated battery? Or cranking etc?
@@Paulcatchesemall grainy all the time now. With or without trolling motor. Doesn’t matter if the main is running or if the boat is off. I have it dedicated to it own battery for power. Wired directly to battery.
have you tried to ajust the gain/brightness at all? sometimes certain lakes id fish id have to just bit by bit just due to water clarity.
💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Nice boat. What size and motor do you run?
Mercury 60HP 4 Stroke. Gets the job done for me. It’s a good boat and has got me tons of fish. Thanks for dropping by 🎣😎
Also thanks for the settings on the unit I have the same one that's going to help big time
@@chadhampton7896 That’s awesome to hear chad, glad I could help. If you got any questions feel free to drop and comment and I’ll get back with ya asap. Hope you catch em all 🎣😎
Man! Those images are great. I have the gt56 and its not even close to that??
Really? My old friend had the GT56 and his images were definitely crisper than mine.
I wired it into the existing wires on bass tracker classic. I'm wondering if they're not the correct gauge. The original fish finder was a really small garmin striker 4. But yes your images are much better.
@@mikehoward7005 when this video was filmed I also had mine wired into the same. If all possible a dedicated batter for it would be best. I have seen/heard some people have a good amount of feedback from it being directly ran to the boat. They have some in expensive lithium batters on Amazon. About 50$ and you can get 8-10 hours on it. If you’re interested.
Thanks! I have a lot of dewalt batteries. I've seen some people use them dedicated for a fish finder. I've thought about going that route. I definitely would if I new I'd get a picture like you're getting. But mine isn't even close. It's soooo disappointing
@mikehoward7005 have you tired adjusting your settings like I have in the video? Another problem I see from time to time is people have their transducers installed to close to the prop…
You what? You can mute the buttons for the IPilot remote? How?
On the remote go under settings and select sounds if I’m not mistaken…I did it a year ago so it’s been awhile. Hope it works out Alec. Tight lines bud 😎🎣
@@Paulcatchesemall yup I got it. Mute is audio mode 1 and its was on 2. My world has changed. Should be alot more peaceful now without that beeping coming from the trolling motor lol
I'm plotting how to swap a bang stik for a Garmin echomap 1022 and GT56 transducer for the front of my rig or possibly a 93sv & ducer. At least something that will work with panoptics so I can add it later.
The 1022’s are nice man. In a year or so that’s my plan. Gonna put the 1022 at the dash and move the 93 to the bow where hopefully my live scope will be 😄 🤷🏻♂️. I also said that last year too… smh. The GT56 I need more than anything. With these deep lakes I fish I need something that can stretch out a bit farther. The 54 does the job and then some but the 56 would make it a bit easier. Thanks for the continued support man. 🎣😎
@@Paulcatchesemall yeah I believe I said the same thing last year too and I had the money saved up but right about the time I was ready to get the unit and ducer bought my work fell out.
That's the way it goes I guess.
Hopefully you keep whacking the eater's, it's about to get good 👍🏻
@@rowdybroomstick1216 Yea I Caught good mess today man. I’ll have that video out sometime in a week or so. Hopefully the bite gets even better 😁. Tight lines bud
