    Currently immersed in The Magic Mountain. "You can only gain some wisdom if you have the courage and the patience to listen first to everything that can be said against your own views and engage into a conversation." John Stuart Mills
    I can't find the Descartes quote source for "Lego ergo sum." Can anyone help me identify it?

      It's a great book. I'd suggest David E. Wellbery's analysis of it, if I may.
      Rene Descartes' famous quote is "Cogito, ergo sum". The "Lego" variation is a semantic change; perhaps an adaptation to the modern discoveries of our cognitive functions (bicameralism?).

      @@marioserpico2223 How can I look further into your interesting comments, particularly about this "semantic change" as it relates to the bicameral brain?

       @Walter Benjamin
      Mr. Walter Benjamin; I see you choose your battles very carefully...
      I was ahead of myself for a moment there, wasn't I? I was referring to the subtle changes of history through the semantic approach, in order to match the current trends of social structure and direction.
      I cannot find Descartes' supposed early version of "Lego ergo sum" either. Is it a secret version of it? (curious) ("as some of you may know")
      The famous quote was written in different variations, and in different papers by the author himself. Rene Descartes even changed the way it was phrased, not just it's meaning, the more he thought and wrote about it and his philosophy. If Mr. Rob Riemen confirms there is another simplistic variation, it could be found in Descartes' writings. May I suggest the "La recherche de la vérité par la lumière naturelle" ? Obviously, I have not read his books. Yet there are those who have, and some of them question the author's change of phrasing and meaning, even attributing it to external influence. (curious)
      I don't have to become an expert for a youtube comment, do I? Or should I be one to write a comment? Forgive my ignorance, as I am trying to learn. Thank you.
      The idea of the bicameral mentality in neuroscience and psychology suggests that, an earlier version of the human mind has a part that listens (obeys), and another part that speaks (commands). Since reading is more like 'listening' - in fact when you read this comment you are also "listening" to yourself in your mind (don't you?) - I find the promotion of the "Lego ergo sum" relatable. It also is a reasonable predecessor to the "Cogito, ergo sum", if that was indeed the case. ("it's a fact")
      Of course, Mr. Rob Riemen was just trying to promote book sales and reading in general, when he mentioned the quote.
