"Burt knows his bombs." Biggest understatement in the galaxy. My biggest question how could Earl think that in a confined space like that, the amount of explosives in that truck, would not be enough.

True. As a former Army engineer that worked with c-4, I can say that there was a noticeable lack of gasoline in that movie explosion. That is what it looks like when you detonate plastique.

Saw the first movie with my babysitter when I was in 1st grade. Saw the second one with my dad. Recently started watching them again with my dad on Prime. Pretty nostalgic.

@@jeshonloonskin4176 He was under the impression that he was hunting Graboids. He has no info on shriekers until he took most of them out on his own. Hence why he was out of ammo.

He set the bomb at roughly 1:39 for 2:45 - the bomb finally goes off at 3:49... this is a RARE case where the bomb actually goes off early in a movie rather then the other way around. Kuddos still to the movie.

I tried to time it too and in our time it went off at the 40s mark roughly, I can forgive it as maybe time didn't follow every single second or maybe a Shrieker ruptured and charge and then *KABOOM* lol

@@s.nifrum4580 The first 4 are excellent and then they kinda went downhill. I hear there's a new one coming, though, and it'll have badass Burt as usual!
The first 3 are gold, and a lot of it has to do with the well written characters and dialogue. 4-6 weren't my thing.
Burt became my inspiration for a D&D Character when my DM allowed players to have bombs and guns. Artificer/Bard so I can make my own bombs and put Glyph of Warding on them as well as my ride. It was worth it. Especially when some bandits stole it and they learned the hard way about playing with explosives.
So... pretty sure 2.5 tons of C4 would make a bigger explosion, vaporize any chunks of Shriekers, and the sheer shockwave would have killed Grady.
It's not only just C4 in the back of Burt truck.There thermate TNT and cluster charges.

C4 does not give off sympathy detonation that easy.
C4 needs an electrical trigger. It's stable and wouldn't have exploded.

It turned into the ultimate lifeform and proceeded to float frozen in space for eternity, never able to die

The recommended safety distance from a 2000 pound Air Force bomb is about 1000 yards.

Grady and earl took a box of dynamite and some RC cars from the Mexican army. Then bert comes along to help and takes a deuce, 2.5 tons of high explosives, anti tank rifles, 120 pounds of mre's, and a nuclear warhead and no one asked questions....
The rumours of the possible nuclear warhead are completely unsubstantiated! As is the rumour of any such device ever possibly being transported to an undisclosed location in a remote part of Nevada.
That not a nuclear warhead that an artillery shell as a nuclear warhead if not properly secured shock and explosives would set it off and 100 miles would be vaporized.Even artillery shell can explode if not properly handle with care.I know seen howitzer 155 cannon and shells while the shell is black it from a cannon that Burt has.
The fact that Earl was worried two and a half tons wouldn't be enough never ceases to make me laugh.
For the record, two and a half tons is five thousand pounds. Your average brick of C4 weighs about 1.25 lbs. So if we were counting C4 alone, that's about four thousand bricks of C4.

I LOVE a good explosion! The HUUUUUGE explosion in "BLOWN AWAY" with Tommy Lee Jones & Jeff Bridges was so powerful, beyond the Director's control that it smashed over a thousand windows in apartment blocks surrounding! This was set off in the country side, so they really didn't have to worry about health n' safety! BOOM!

The are pretty freaking close for 2.5 tons of high explosives... Recommend safe distance is around 100 yards for every pound of tannerite.... they should be at least a mile away
That's mainly for civilian laws, liabilities, and the like so you have the absolete mimnum chance of injury. Basically so that idiots that blow themselves up can't sue and complain to the company for blowing themselves up.
For the military the rule of thumb is about 10 yards per pound. You get you butt kicked, probably have you hearing mess up, and feel like someone went at you with a baseball bat, but you will survive. The killzone, aka you WILL DIE zone, for a 4000 pounder bomb is about 40 yards or so for the blast wave. That goes up with shrapnel and the like to over 100 yards.
With cover, like a ditch you can survive pretty close to an explosion so long as you are protected from the shock wave and shrapnel.
Source, in the military and survive a thousand pounder bomb far to close for comfort. YEs my ears still ring from that, and the guy who invent sandbags earnt another drink.
