Morbid Angel, the true forefathers of death metal music, triumphantly return with their 9th studio album Kingdoms Disdained, to be released on Silver Linings Music December 1st. Perfectly brutal
As someone who's just recently found their whole discography, and jamming to covenant for weeks straight, to say this is a weak album is a horrible understatement. ESPECIALLY considering the entirety of the metal scene the past decade, this is pretty fucking refreshing.

I'm both fascinated and disappointed...
For sure this album is creative, innovative, sick, brutal and much more... I just don't like certain elements from Gateways to annihilation, Heretic and Illud divinum insanus and even Domination that much and in my opinion this album is somewhat of a combination of those elements I don't like...
May be I'm too old school, but if I had the choice, I would compose and record something with a heavy influence of Covenant and Formulas fatal to the flesh, major influence of Altars of madness and Blessed are the sick, a good portion of Domination and just tiny bits of the other albums... Or one could also say only certain influences of David Vincent and Steve Tucker (and Tim Yeung) lol... and with a sound a little bit more old school of course...
I swear, in my dreams I listened to a new Morbid Angel album more than once... and it was absolutely perfect... I litterally could hear the music in my head... but then I awoke...
Considering the mindset of Trey, your opinion is a bit funny, and i don't mean that as an insult, but he always do what he likes with no specific formulas
If you have a vision of perfection with a sucking hole in the shape of your dream punctured through really, that sounds like the greatest vacuum to abhor: to rape by filling it with your concept of the ideal. Seize the void, bring your dream to life... and make everyone else's nightmare begin.
gateways and domination were sick man. i never heard the other two you mentioned though. but this album is unique as hell but i guess it doesn't sound like covenant, blessed or altars. its not the usual old school high speed stuff but it retains what morbid angel had from the start with very unorthodox sounding riffs. i agree on that it sounds a lot like gateways but again i really liked that album tbh.

At some point a band regurgitates it's own stuff. This is pretty well regurgitated, but regurgitated nevertheless. I'm sensing insecurity to experiment here after their previous experiment pretty much flopped. At least it is thoughtfully produced and very sweet sounding.

Too generic, trying too hard. I'm a lifelong fan, wish them well, hope they can continue but I'm afraid illud killed them, and this album is too weak to bounce back with. I hope I'm wrong.
Bryan Harrison same here I enjoy getting new music from them but this comes no where close to gateways. I wish they would have gone more off the radar like formulas did.
After hearing the whole album, I feel better about this release... it is pretty good overall, still fear it's not strong enough to bounce back from illud, but it does have some really good songs on it. It's a legit morbid album, even with the handful of generic tracks...
+Bryan Harrison I actually enjoyed Illud Divinum Insanus especially the bit about obtaining it from a charity shop for £1
Give them a break, anyone could bounce back after Illud, you're being too harsh
But if their next album is just like this one, I may take your word for it.

This album suffers from a disease called appalling lack of clearly audible leitmotif.
Riffs without music/melodic sense,nothing remains in the memory,nothing catchy
just palm muting and noises...each "song" without theme,this is non music.

I felt the same way the first time I listened to this album, but after some time I listened to it again, and I started getting. Also there are different melodies that you must observe to "get" as they are more subtle. I think it is an album that you have to pay more attention to appreciate it for what it is. The same thing happened to me with Gateways, which now I consider a masterpiece. Cheers!
