Jasher chapter 27:12-13 11 And Esau took those garments and ran into the city on account of Nimrod's men, and he came unto his father's house wearied and exhausted from fight, and he was ready to die through grief when he approached his brother Jacob and sat before him. 12 And he said unto his brother Jacob, Behold I shall die this day, and wherefore then do I want the birthright? And Jacob acted wisely with Esau in this matter, and Esau sold his birthright to Jacob, for it was so brought about by the Lord.
This is a bit distorted. The narrative illustrates Jacob as some sort of deceiver. But God loved Jacob and hated Esau (Mal 1:2) . God hated Esau because Esau despised his birthright. Esau didn't want the responsibility of being the oldest son. Knowing this Jacob purchased Esau's birthright for a bowl of soup. What Esau really wanted was the material blessing of his father. But this blessing is for the oldest son who carries extra responsibilities as the eldest son. Jacob did "trick" his father into blessing him with the material items from his father. But this is because Jacob was due the blessings as he was the son who carried the birthright. Since Jacob had taken on the birthright and all the responsiblities, which is due the material blessings of his father. The story illustrates that simply being the oldest son does not therefore mean the eldest son is due all the material blessings. If the eldest son, as Esau was, does not want to be involved in the brithrights, then he is not owed all the other blessings.
@@mikhailthegreatestdragon3627 but that isn't what the Bible says. Where does it say Esau deceived Jacob for his birthright? It says Jacob despised his birthright. Think about what Chapter 25 is saying. Esau was a skillful hunter and a man of the field. Then two verses later Esau came from the field, which he skillfully hunted and demands food from Jacob because Esau is עָיֵֽף . This is the Hebrew word for weary, faint, or tired. Esau even describes himself as עָיֵֽף (tired). Then when Jacob offers to buy Esau's birthright, Esau elevates his state of being עָיֵֽף (tired) and says he is going to die! Laban did not want Leah to stay unwed being undesirable because of her weak eyes. Who better than his nephew, who was potentially wealthy, and a hard worker to marry her off to. This set up Jacob's attitude of reserving his true affection for Rachel, and not the other women. This was even passed onto the children being loved, but not favored; a resentful pecking order. PEACE family, and God bless.

Also the other children where always messing with Jacobs plans and not being obedient. Benjamin was loved because Jacob did not water anything wrong to happen to him since one of his children died. Joseph was basically the perfect son or maybe a genius thus winning favor. Also Jacob had 12 sons he has to kinda hate some of them and like others more
God made Rachael's womb barren because of Jacob's preference, thus making Joseph the child of promise. A MAGNIFICENT example of life's twists and turns and of what NOT to do. PEACE family, and God bless.
I don't think Rachael was marrying age, when Jacob asked for her hand in marriage. She might have been 9 or 10, so 7 years isn't a big issue. Leah was probably 13 years old so Laban felt compelled to give her away soon after the 7 years. This is why the women had servants because they were too young to know how to take good care of a home.
Jacob worked 7 years for the price of a wife. He had nothing else to offer, however Laban was greedy. It is stated Rachel had a lovely figure. That is not a description of a child, that is pedophilia. Most likely, there were all young adults. The average marrying age in Israel was 20.

Leah's eyes were red because she was crying all the times because she, as the older sister, was supposed to marry her older cousin Esau. But she didn't want to marry him because he was wicked. So to make Leah happy, Laban tricked Jacob into marrying her.

I would imagine that Jacob was able to see Rachel during that first seven years. She was a shepherdess and so they would have been in the field together often per my understanding.
That coloured illustration of Laibon standing besides his daughters doesn't seem to paint either girls as having anything particularly unattractive about her. I guess that might have been the point. Jacob can come off in this tale as being rather vain and capricious.
Could someone tell me one detail which I find unclear. Did Jacob have to work for another 7 years to get Rachel or did he get Rachel after ending the week with Leah and accepting his 7 more years of work for Laban? It has been a long time since I read this passage from the bible so I thought to ask for answers here, thank you in advance
Seven years seemed like “some few days” to Jacob, so great was his love for Rachel. Thereafter, he claimed his veiled bride, little suspecting Laban’s treachery. Imagine his shock the next morning to find that he had slept, not with Rachel, but with her sister Leah! Jacob demanded: “What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served with you? So why have you tricked me?” Laban replied: “It is not customary to do this way in our place, to give the younger woman before the firstborn. Celebrate to the full the week of this woman. After that there shall be given to you also this other woman for the service that you can serve with me for seven years more.” (Genesis 29:20-27) Defenseless and trapped, Jacob could do little but accept those terms if he wanted Rachel. Unlike the first seven years, the next were bitter. How could Jacob overlook Laban’s mean trick? And what of Leah, who played along with it? Of course, Laban was not in the least interested in the turbulent future he prepared for Leah and Rachel. Self-interest was his concern. Jealousy was added to resentment when Leah bore four sons in quick succession, while Rachel remained barren. Then Rachel, desperate for children, resorted to offering her maid as a surrogate mother, and out of rivalry, Leah did the same. Jacob found himself with 4 wives, 12 children, and anything but a happy family. Yet, Jehovah was making Jacob into a great nation.-Genesis 29:28-30:24.
I had a dream 2 nights ago. In the dream I heard over and over “Laban paved the way for Jesus”. Seeing Laban as a deceiver, this confused me. But if we really look at this story we can see that Jesus is in the line of Judah. And Judah was the 4th son of Leah. And we can also see in this story that Jacob likely would not have married Leah if Laban gave him Rachel first. Now does this make Laban righteous? Not likely. We see later in the story that when Jacob leaves Laban, and Laban chases him down, he searches the tents for his images. Those images, Laban describes as his gods. So here we can see that Laban was not a man of God. The lesson from this, while the works of satan often appear to work in antithesis of God’s plan. However the reality is that God is so far ahead of satan, satan doesn’t know that his works actually were taken into account for the good of God’s plan.
Ya know what they say “ya reap whatcha sow” as much as I wanna feel sorry for Jacob I can’t kept but shake my head at how he deceived his dad(Isaac) and robbed his brother(Esau) of his birthright

It’s too late for Jacob and Rachel but I still detest the will of the tradition against true love... If Laban had permitted it even Sarah forgotten to inform Jacob about it, maybe Rachel could had marry Jacob as Jacob desire her.... Leah never love him she has no proof Rachel stole him from her in fact, it could be the reverse that Leah stole him by deception unbeknownst to Rachel. If Rachel had did insisted they would have been a happy couple.... Leah done out of the duties of God but never for real love she never respected him in the first place either....

No one in the history of the Bible has ever died from being עָיֵֽף (tired). It is clear that Esau did not want his birthright and easily sold it for a bowl of soup. Esau had no remorse for selling his birthright and was not deceived.
@@diegobarron1690 how do you get to that interpretation? I don't see it and I've read the story many times. Help me understand what you are seeing, please.

Jacob literally bartered Esau's birthright for soup when Esau was starving, his words were "what good is being the elder if I starve?", that's textbook deceit.
See even here GOD is fair, Jacob reaped what he sowed but God still had a plan for Jacob and Jacob had to continue
Yet she was good enough for him to visit her tent often enough to sire 7 kids. I still say its possible' tender eyes; may have meant 'pretty", In other words, it may have meant that" Lea had pretty eyes, but her sister was prettier",
@@lilacicecream It is sinful to NOT give your wife children, despite his lack of affection or favoritism. Here in their future we do a LOT of speculating only they know the truth of her eyes condition. However we do know that he favored Rachael over Leah, and treated them as such, but Joseph did not charge his brothers nor his pop with sin, but that it was God's plan. To God be the Glory.

@@lilacicecream You judge bronze age society by modern standards. The Bible doesn't go into any detail about the manner of the twelve patriarchs parentage being the "will of God" but it is implied, or you don't get the 12. We are assigning the 1 man 1 wife to someone who did not have the "Law of Moses". You have a wife or husband, you make/give them children/descendants. You error in your understanding of his wives, he had two wives, but their handmaidens were also given to him to produce children. The main lesson to garner from the account is that God does not play favorites. Fulfill your vows. PEACE.
Yes but he was still a MAN and as a woman i know how it goes. Unless Jacob was roaring drunk every time he went to Leas's tent. I still think there had to be something he liked about her. Now, do u like toast? I do, but I like pizza better. I think Lea and Rachal are the tales of toast and pizza. Jacob evidently liked pizza more than a piece of toast with jelly. this breaks the heart...poor leah was never loved as she deserved.....this caused the father (jacob) to not really love his children with leah and her maids but he lov3d his children with rachel joseph (he was sold into slavery and became long of egypt)@benjamin
But Leah gave birth to Judah, who is the ancestor of David and Jesus.
I wouldn't say Jacob didn't love Leah. Though he didn't at first, I'm pretty sure he requested upon his death to be buried with Leah instead of Rachel
Leah gives birth to the royal blood line and the priestly blood. Jacob may have not loved Leah , but TMH sure did.

Rachel wanted to be married
No its the opposite she wanted it so bad, rachel was jealous of leah for having children
Thank You for sharing this message
This was exactly what I was looking for... thank you!
Thats pedophilia if that's the case and the punishment in the bible is to be tied to a millstone and drown.
that's just wishfull thinking,
do you have any proof to what you said? I do not want to call you just disrescpectful since youre just stating your argument
I think it was a bit of payback for what he did to esau he deceived his brother by taking his blessing from his father Issac so he was deceived too
Even if Rachel was 10, Jacob worked SEVEN years before he touched either sister. She would have been at least 17.
Leah's eyes were red because she was crying all the times because she, as the older sister, was supposed to marry her older cousin Esau. But she didn't want to marry him because he was wicked. So to make Leah happy, Laban tricked Jacob into marrying her.
Where does it say that in the scriptures? Watch out for the plagues.

I would imagine that Jacob was able to see Rachel during that first seven years. She was a shepherdess and so they would have been in the field together often per my understanding.
Hey that's me!!!

One of my fav bible stories as well as the story of Joseph.
That coloured illustration of Laibon standing besides his daughters doesn't seem to paint either girls as having anything particularly unattractive about her. I guess that might have been the point. Jacob can come off in this tale as being rather vain and capricious.
Amazing, awesome story well read enjoyed it ❤
Could someone tell me one detail which I find unclear.
Married in 7 days but serve for her 7 years.
Can you do the story of Daniel and the lions den next ?
