Easy Watson, as Sherlock Holmes said to his assistant, so, for Sri Zaidi, a couple of small observations if I can add,
1) Pakistan has not yet defaulted on international obligations, yes the wolf is standing at the door but it is to credit of Sri Imran Khan that the wolf is being kept away even though Sri Khan swallowing his pride continues to seek financial help from friends and even virtual foes as well. No other PM in world has achieved such feat, and save his country from becoming another Zimbabwe ànd a distinct probability of becoming so in near term if harsh economic measures undertaken do not bear fruits. Also it takes a great person to admit his mistakes, as Sri Khan has done so time and again and tried to correct the course. Which PM in past in Pakistan has done so ? Or do you think Pakistan has reached this stage only in past three and half years ? Past PM's/Martial law administrations own no responsibilities for today's sad economic situation ?
2) When working or travelling abroad either in middle east or west, we find no differences between Indians or Pakistanis and many middle eastern businessmen employ both nationalities and the friendly work atmosphere prevalent is much more evident as compared to in cases when we are working in our separate countries with our own citizens.
My family visited Dubai some years ago and stayed at a Western hotel, probably Hilton and were treated so nicely by Pakistani staff there despite choosing an economy/budget package that was comparably more more better and enjoyable and hospitality/treatment was heart touching, than if we had experienced in economic stay tour packages in our own country.
3) So that makes me wonder, what magic wand the esteemed rulers of Dubai, Muscat, Qatar, Saudi, Kuwait, Bahrain and other middle eastern countries have got that promotes such a congenial communal and social atmosphere essential for economic and civilization growth ?
4) Besides, clean cities, helpful police, good healthcare and education and rule of law with virtually no corruption with minimum taxes, what else we are missing in our separate countries which can make life of an ordinary citizen better and peaceful ?
5) A big question with easy answers which our ruling classes shoulders emulate. Yes middle east has got oil, but Singapore/Japan function as successful economies with imported oil like Pakistan.
6) A major difference between middle east and subcontinent political system is absence of political parties contesting elections in M/E vs Indo/Pak Westminster model having multiple parties competing/ mobilizing funds from corporate donors/graft to gain power. This creates corruption. Just imagine, could China have achieved status of 2nd most developed/military power if there were scores of political parties competing for power. Hence single party democratic system like China is way out for poor developing nations.
