House speaks multiple languages because it means he can diagnose and insult more people that way.
more importantly insult
Underrated comment(s)
The insulting thing is the only way it makes sense
“House speaks multiple languages because” … he was educated in England.
Was going to like, but feel it's appropriate for this comment to have the 666 below it.
its amazing how hugh could speak spanish with an american accent when he speaks in a british accent normally
That sounds more like a spanish from Spain rather than Latin American spanish. Which it’ll be appropriate for a British guy.
@@bernirn Speaking Spanish like someone from Spain can also happen with some Americans. One of my best friends is american born but speaks Spanish like she's from Spain, she claims some of the dialectical differences & slang if you compare Mexican & Puerto Rican Spanish sound nothing a like. Unfortunately I can't mentally process Spanish at all. I gravitate more towards Germanic languages & can only process phrases in Romance languages like Italian & French if they sound like the first Romance language I was regularly exposed to; Romanian.
@@bernirn I don't know, I'm native spanish speaker, it sound like an american trying to speak "latin american" spanish. Pretty good
He also speaks french
Can we talk about, for a moment, how House was more willing to wake up a patient who just had their hand cut off than speak Spanish because he didn't want Cuddy to know and ask him to translate.
Speaking with the patient directly would've gotten far more accurate and useful information.
How are you surprised? Did you even watch any of the series?
I think the correct term would be here "House being House"
This was about getting info. All three members of the family spoke English...even the mother. They had been keeping information hidden by speaking Spanish...or they belived so. Nothing they said was relevant before this moment...a critical moment. Further questioning in Spanish wouldn't be enough to shake the truth loose. Questioning and answering to stop House from doing something desperate would. As usual, he put on a show. That show paid off because it put into context and provided clarity to the conversation between brothers that occurred earlier.
@@obliviouz "Useful" depends on what they give you
A British actor, speaking English and Spanish, in an American accent, to a Spanish woman and saying "Sayonara".😂🤣👍🏽
Maybe he should have said: sayonara señorita ?
He's just doing a different accent, it's really not that amazing.
@@dariansafiran1690 it kinda is. he's doing an accent of someone speaking a different language
An English speaking american speaking Spanish sounds differently than a British English speaking Brit speaking Spanish
@@bluescluessuperagent I say that bc I literally tried it myself lmao. Really not that hard.
@@dariansafiran1690 what exactly did you try?
House would speak alien in order to get answers.
@R. H. Kingpin wow. am i reading a racist comment? ...
Wow, am I reading a blah blah blah comment? That's how I read it. That word has lost all meaning to me, it's used way too often and inaccurately far too much. I'm gonna go drop a duece now, I drank way too much coffee.
@@trever2244 im just joking, it was sarcasm. but I totally agree with you.
Christina Z. But not the posh accent. He only speaks in the gutter Vulcanese.
Christina Z. That was pretty disrespectful
Hugh Laurie is honestly one of the most underrated voice actors. His ability to flawlessly imitate an accent of an accent is remarkable.
Yes! I remember one episode he mocked Chase's Australian accent.
There really was no spanish accent just the American one.
@@CantEscapeFlorida
They were referring to the way he spoke Spanish in an American accent, I swear you lot just get dumber and dumber by the day.
@@CantEscapeFlorida but the point is that Hugh Laurie is British. His natural accent is southern English, but he was able to speak Spanish with an American accent.
I am not trying to diminish Hugh Laurie's talent at all, but it is much easier than it seems
As a native Spanish speaker. That's really good. I can't imagine memorizing lines with perfect pronunciation in two languages
As a native spanish speaker I can say also that everyrhing he said, is not difficult at all and were only a couple sentences and questions... Obviously he has an accent, he did it good, but he didn't say a monologue.
"Take the Scooby gang and spread out-" House's lines never cease to amuse me lmfao
Later he gives his new team a ringtone and its Hanson lmao
Somewhere in an alternate universe, Buffy and her friends suddenly feel very offended and they have no idea why.
He is English, using an American accent, and he has spoken Mandarin, Spanish, and Portuguese in this show from what I can remember. Wow. I'm really impressed.
Also French
And he's also a professional Jazz musician, which one can say,
He 'speaks' music too.
Haha, I remember the Mandarin speaking episode, he told an elderly Chinese lady her (grand?)daughter was pregnant because the girl was trying to scam the hospital by acting as translator for the elderly lady to get birth control pills for herself. She outed herself when she accidentally mixed up the pills with cold medicine, and the older lady came back to complain her boobs grew. I don't remember the Portuguese, but I can believe it.
He spoke American when he played Mr. Little in the Stuart Little movies.
also a bit of Hindi i think, when he's trying to disprove a migraine prevention drug
The well known Doctor : "Gregorio Casas" para los hispanohablantes.
Casas lol dude u r funny
Sería Gregorio Casa, es House, no Houses.
Gregorio casas xddd
I read that con acento ingles man jsbsj
The best moment he speaks Spanish is when he tells a patient that Wilson has a battle with his own 'sexual dysfunction' and Wilson agrees without having an idea of what he said xD
What episode was that? I wish I remembered that!
@@chinita2463 "remorse" season 6 or 7
As a person whose first language is spanish, House has a fairly aggressive tone in spanish in contrast to his sarcastic colder normal tone
Still i liked hearing him talking in spanish
Interesting, because a fairly aggressive tone would be in context with the situation.
@@nunya3163 true but most people's accents in Spanish are different. Here he wasn't trying to be aggressive but with him speaking Spanish and trying to quickly figure it out makes him sound as such
as a native speaker, of english, idk what he said
I was more surprised that his pitch didn't change.
Spanish has a mora agressive tone.
When "Terminator 2" was dubbed in Spain, the phrase in which he says goodbye with "Hasta la vista baby" was translated as "Sayonara Baby". I wouldn't be surprised if Laurie's British humor wanted to recall the episode.
British humor😂😂
Woah that actually might be right
It was done on purpose because to simply say "hasta la vista baby" in the Spanish version would have taken the dramatic/comedic intent of the line away. Even in Spanish speaking countries they know what sayonara means.
They should have dubbed "Hasta la vista, baby" as "Goodbye, cabrón!"
They just left it in Spanish in México. For some reason, it was still memorable.
House knows Japanese, Chinese, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.
Edit: By Chinese I meant Mandarin, using the word Chinese is valid as well.
and German
and english too, aparently.
And latin...
And hindi
mandarin

I detect a slight Delaware Blue accent.

Because of that episode I thought that it was spanish....for just a few years.
@@Cylus024 Well, sort of. They use it to refer to sandals.

In 2008-just four years after it debuted-House became the most watched TV show internationally (in the fiction category). According to AFP, 81.8 million people tuned in to watch Dr. Gregory House around the globe that year. (At the time, Desperate Housewives held the top spot for TV comedy.)👍
Wow, and I can see why: it's as addicting as Vicodin!

Jajaja, siempre pasa!
Jajajajajajaja Yo estaba pensando lo mismo jajaja

"Take the scooby gang and lets spread out" Lol
His spanish was actually pretty decent lol !
Vaya sorpresa verte por estos lares.
Especially given he's faking an American accent despite being British.
Reminds me of when Buzz started speaking Spanish.
House: I'm a delusional space ranger toy?
This is the best spanish I've heard from a non spanish speaker. British actors are so talented for accents and languages. Ya eres mexicano Hugh!
An added layer of irony is that I used to only see House on the TV when I was in spain on holidays, man is cultured
FUN FACT
and it's one you might've guessed by yourself:
· Since The Terminator saying "hasta la vista, baby" would have little impact on Spanish-speaking audiences, the Spanish dub of Terminator 2 changes his catchphrase to "sayonara, baby". I'm almost certain that goodbye from Greg is a direct homage to that change.
@@DiegoRuiz1991 man, you just blew my mind. I thought he just pretended he didn't knew the language well enough yet.

These sort of situations always make me smile, I speak French as a second language and have been on the receiving end of people mistakenly assuming I don't! It is funny every time it happens. One of the features of being a Brit is that pretty much everyone assumes we only speak English!
It's such a safe assumption. Only safer one is that an American only speaks English barely.
Kudos, though. French is surprisingly difficult to learn, especially to non-native speakers, due to all of its countless exceptions to pretty much all of its rules.
Well, he speaks better Spanish than the woman who supposedly speaks Spanish

si
I can't believe House was right. That was some amazing inference skills.
_I love how House would rather wake a man who's just had his hand removed then speak Spanish in front of Cuddy_
Funny how in the episode he gets a massuse who asks him to "Dame su mano." he responds with "Huh?".
I checked the internet up the actor can really speak English, Spanish, German and French and I’m barely fluent in 1 yet omg that man really is amazing.
Adoro al Dr House, es increíble ❤️❤️❤️!! Jsjsjs
I always found it so interesting that a man as misanthropic and socially isolated as house, is fluent in multiple languages. English, Spanish, mandarin, Portuguese ( though only implied on that one. He never actually spoke it, only read it). For someone who hates being with people, he sure makes an effort to be able to communicate with them.
Misantrophy has no relation with a good student
Maybe he learned them to better communicate with patients?
BRO, AS AN URUGUAYAN GUY, I'M IMPRESSED BY THIS MAN
I love how he just surprises patients by speaking their language
Like the chinese girl or this man
No words can describe how great of an actor Hugh Laurie is
Last time I was this early it still wasn't lupus
The fact that he say “sayonara”at the end.
"The Scooby Gang" hilarious
Lol he called his team Scooby Gang

House has a lot of surprises
It's amazing that House speaks better Spanish than the actress that is supposed to represent a native Spanish speaker
Not at all, she speaks perfectly in Mexican accent. She is native speaker.
No. She is surprised at the question being asked and the fact that the question is being asked in perfect Spanish. I get that reaction from Spanish speakers sometimes because no one seems to expect the gringo to speak it.
The woman has an US accent in spanish, not an latin american one whatsoever.
Nobody here seems to mention that house refers to whatever he was gonna wake up the patient with as "talking juice" and once the mother couldn't awnser house's question he said "give her the talking juice"
I love the Salsa music playing on the chicken fights scene, reminds me of home, Puerto Rico.
His chicken impression is hilarious
I laughed way more than I should have when house said Sayonara
Sayounara at the end just make crying of laughing
LOL they kept the spanish music playing for the outro 👍

Muy fresco el pana Gregorio, déjame decirte
Everybody praising House's spanish, but y'all forget the lady did an amazing job as well imitating some kind of central american accent (she's obviously not a spanish native)
Probably because she played it so well most people didn't notice. If you aren't from/native to a country or language it's hard to tell the difference.
@@ameliarose47 I know what you mean. That happened to me with Frenchie from The Boys. I actually thought he was French, because the few lines he has in that language are super clear and easy to understand. But later I found out he's actually from Israel and can pull off the accent XD
“Take the Scooby gang and spread out” 😂😂😂😂
“Digueme“ he meant to say “Dígame“

Never seen the show, watched pretty much all of these clips
Headcanon, House knows every commonly spoken language so that he can accurately insult any stupid patients he gets.
Amazing how asks specifically asks what he wanted to ask than say he didn't know what he just said
I don't know if they say where Alfredo is from, but is kind of funny that they say "yeah, let's play Salsa in this latino place" LOL
Yeah well life is a simulation
The sayonara in the end was cherry on the pie.
"Perfect" is an understatement... i speak spanish myself
House is like the rebellious teen and Cuddy is like the protective mother holding him back from unbridled havoc
Aha haa haa.
Being a rare person who speaks spanish and Japanese, I found it quite hilarious when he said Sayonara.
However... nobody ever says sayonara really... it's always 'see you later' or "mah-tah-nay"
And here I am still remembering Hugh Lawrie from "Black Adder".
My doctor when he says sayonara to the Spanish lady: *Mr Worldwide*
Ah!! Perro!! House se defiende con el español
He specifically learned how to say "your daughter is pregnant" in mandarin for a reason.
Nice to know I could understand the conversation easily, Spanish practice is paying off a little
Alfredo and Maddy were talking to each other in Spanish, thinking they could hide the fact that Alfredo works cockfights but didn't know that House speaks Spanish. People sometimes speak to each other in a foreign language when they're in public so no one around them will understand what they're saying... or so they think. Just because they're not in their native country that doesn't mean no one around them knows their language, too. There many people all around that know more than one language. Foreigners never know for sure if there are strangers around them that also know their language. I have a friend who speaks at least 3 languages, Spanish(her native language), English and French.
In fact on 9/11, aboard Flight 11, there was a passenger sitting near the hijackers who also knew the hijackers' native language, Arabic. It is believed he was getting wise to them before anyone else on the plane was because they hijackers were likely talking to each other in Arabic while aboard the plane and he was close enough to hear them. So when they started to make their move, it's believed that he tried to stop them but was killed from behind by one of the hijackers who was seated directly behind him.
Well came here to see some fresh lupus jokes .
