I am an older lady, and so have lost my parents and many dear friends..I worked in a Doctors surgery and many patients young and old were diagnosed with terminal illnesses, I knew them as friends, and cried with them, but I knew in my heart that this was not the end for them, that this was just a heartbeat away from a new everlasting life. It is us that are left behind that grieve, if only we could see the splendour of the land, to which our loved ones are called from you and me, we'd understand..If only we could HEAR the welcome they receive, from old familiar voices all so dear, we would not grieve..If only we could KNOW the reason why they went, we'd smile and wipe away the tear that flow, and wait content.

This was the "class hymn" we did for Confirmation when I was 11. I had to talk my teacher into it because she wanted us to do Be Not Afraid. This hymn was chosen for my paternal grandmother's funeral in 1999 (I wasn't involved with those choices). When my maternal grandmother passed in 2014, my mother gave me the responsibility of choosing the hymns. I chose this (I also chose Lord of the Dance because my Gran was Irish and like me, she loved the Lord of the Dance show. I know she was looking down at us and smiling when we sang that.)
It is my Uncle Gerrard's funeral today, I am 3,000 miles away, unable to attend but I am playing this hymn as it has been chosen, feeling a bit closer to my family

Matthew 7, “ ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you” we need to ask Jesus into our lives. It’s not because our parents baptised us that make us Christian. It’s because we choose to say yes to following Jesus in our lives. We must invite Jesus into our hearts. He is waiting for us 🙏
