chasmanian remakas exactly, my generation of punk kids think it's still the same way when it's not. Instead of conservative cops suppressing our free speech it's the fucking liberal intellectuals who want to think for the rest of us. Times change, same problem, different enemies.

    • @GasmaskAvenger
      @GasmaskAvenger 6 ปีที่แล้ว +49

"it's the fucking liberal intellectuals who want to think for the rest of us"
Not really. Those so-called "liberal intellectuals" (probably Tumblr posters) are going to be pretty right wing in several years (remember that wannabe hippies of the 60s turned into conservative coke snorting corporate yuppies by the time the 80s happened). Real leftists don't give a fuck about what you think and will allow you to use your own words to humiliate yourself.

    • @chasmanianremakas7781

If you think that right-wing moralists are going to look out for your best interests you might be surprised. They prefer to tell everyone how to pray, love and live. Enemies of freedom are on both sides. You just have to judge for yourself.

    Things randomly recalled: summer '83
saw MDC with a host of other punk bands @ the mall in DC with punks from high school. When MDC took the stage we were suddenly surrounded by mounted cops in riot gear. Of course a riot broke out. THEY started it. My friend Derek who sang for our band Suburban Disruptors got hit in the head with a beer bottle and bled all over the place, so we ended our participation to take him home. Safety first!

Every since I found by chance this album during the hardcore rise to power, every day, I mean it every day I hear certain lines that repeat back to me all day. I swear if you locked me in a room for ten years hearing nothing but mdc's first lp I would come out totally ready to go at it all. I have played guitar all my life but that is nothing to do with how this first lp affects me. Just so fast and correct. It just hits a fuckin correct nerve in my gut and pumps up my heart and that's it. They are the best for me. Ever.

I saw them in 1983 at a country bar in San Bernadino CA and I have to say they were twice as as fast as this album. That night the Guitar and Bass players had their instruments slung so low and their legs spread so wide to achieve that amount of speed while playing using their elbows and wrists you could barely see them on stage. The pit exsisted of about 7 punks beating the shit out each other and the place had about a hundred people in there and when other punks tried to get in the pit they bounced of like flies. It was the best high speed punk show I have ever seen.

MDC stood for Millions of Dead Cops, by the way, until the mid '80s when the band met with Crass in England who told them they were uncomfortable with the 'Dead Cops' part. The name became Mega Death Corporation, but we all know what that MDC really stands for. ;)

This was back when Boomers were saying that then-modern music had nothing to say. They thought saying “give peace a chance” was so revolutionary and longed for a world where they didn’t have to do anything but turn on tune in and drop out. Their punk rock/Reagan era children were rightly disgusted with the lack of initiative and sense of urgency.

"Dave MDC" asked me, "So what do you do for a living, man?"
    I said, "I'm a chef."
"Oh what kinds of stuff do you make...?"
Thinking nothing of it, I replied, "Mostly French cooking. Italian. People seem to like Italian food..."
Well, that LIT THE FUSE! Dave came down on me like a ton of bricks!!
"I can't believe you call yourself a fan of this band!" He had like- a vein popping out of his forehead. "I can't believe you make a living from cooking dead animals and come to see this band!!"
He walked away in disgust. I thought he'd take a swing at me!
I walked home despondent. This was a band I had loved as a young teenager. I actually got suspended from school for 3 days for wearing a handmade facsimile of the back of this album cover on a T-shirt! This was 25 years later. There was like- 40 people at that gig.
The more I thought about it- the more I had to appreciate and respect Dave for going off on me like that. An artist/ activist who has held so strongly to his ideology that he was willing to spit in the face of a paying customer- a fan. I think my respect has only grown over the years since then.
