bruh komodo... stockfish only think black's mating with 69 nodes and corrected its eval with 175 nodes, and finds the correct move with 4.1k nodes. for reference, stockfish on 1 core runs at 2.2 million nodes per second for this position. bruh komodo.
you don't need a depth of 14 if the engine doesn't prune the mating sequence xD that's why engines like leela chess zero is often rated higher than komodo

@@xerxis100 that's completely false. stockfish 14+ calculates this position (and most others) at hundreds of thousands of nodes per second, which is why it reaches depth 14 after about 0 seconds, depth 20 after about half, and depth 30 after a few.

However, you mentioned in the video the engine gives black a forced mate at low depth, is my assumption correct that you have also fed this puzzle to a more state of the art chess engine and it was able to find the winning continuation for white?
Instead of Rg4+ Isn't Ra5+ better The king has to move Kg6, then we promote to knight. If king moves to Kg4, we capture the knight and check. King is forced to move sideways and we get queen. The last option for black to counter Ra5+ is blocking with it's knight, then we simply grab the knight Rxe5+ and then we can prevent mate and get queens too
@Eciruam Naes A brilliant move is a good move with added surprise value, not necessarily just a move the computer didnt see at low depth. Creative sacrifices and unusual (but correct) attacking plans are a few examples of what might be counted. Great finds are probably a stepped-down version of this.

It's very nice but how do you check it in low depth? I put the position in the random chess engine I have on my almost five year old phone and it immediately sees the entire sequence and says white is winning.
The human was wrong, not the engine. @1:18 the engine says best line is +68.0 White. You can even see the HUGE white bar to the left of the board. All OTHER lines below it are losing for White. The human then says at @1:20 the computer is wrong, it wasn't.
It's not an artifact. read the description: the author intentionally prevented Komodo to explore more than a depth of 14. I can beat Magnus Carlsen if I first shoot a bullet in his head, but it doesn't prove that he is a bad player. Same with the engine.

Nothing spectacular tbh. In depth one, every check is checkmate. Maybe not practically, as engines are obviously made to face these stupid things but in theory depth 1 check should be checkmate.

Here is a way out of checkmate i am pretty sure but white has to sac a knight and end up losing both pawn promotions in order to avoid it

Yeah. Engines efficiency comes from depth. If the depth is low, engines don't necessarily make much sense.

so 2 depth is actually 1 move so if you end up having 10 move position you need 20 depth

Dk what engine you used but i put it in stockfish and the engine immediately tells me Ne5 is +69 for white
SF 12 has the issues, SF 14 finds it instantly.

Now that I think about it that's probably a bit too overenthusiastic on my part, maybe a white pawn on b5 in place of a black pawn on c6.

Turns out black has a miraculous draw. Shame. I'm not giving up yet though as the starting position can be mended still.

This seems to be an artifact of Komodo. Stockfish 14 never gave any advantage for black and found a mate for white in 25 moves in under a minute.
