Yes unfortunately no training works if there isnt consistency and repetition! Usually it is the humans hardest to train 🤣

I sooooo agree with you! I'm getting an ulcer being the only one that's consistent with the training and the rest of my family seems to do exactly the opposite. 😤🙄

Yes! And then they complain because the dog is unruly. It's their own fault!

    • @joyfulk9services

@@luisap.343 As a trainer myself, I actually get hired quite often from one family member that basically just needs me to come in and be that "bad guy" because they say "they will listen if it comes from you and not just me!" In those cases, very little work is actually done with the dog and most is lecturing and giving "the talk" and guidelines, that way the other family members feel confident they have merit to hold them accountable 😂
Keeping your stress low, confidence and support surrounding you high is sometimes more the reasoning for hiring someone!
It also helps for you to write down and specify those concerns and stressor on paper, sometimes sit down as a household too. Ultimately not just setting your doggy up for success by having everyone equally engaged, but keeping all the humans more balanced and happy too.
Don't let it fester and continue to build up inside because ultimately only you and your dog will suffer. Do what you need to do to address it and regardless of how hard it is, it is always a weight lifted afterwards 🥰

Same here, training curve was so frustrating when nobody from family followed the rules, just ugh, how can one expect the dog to understand the rules, if they're being broken all the time?

Hi Sarah and Marin, I’m deaf and using America sign language from USA. I watched the other episode about Dalmatian deaf dog 🐶just like your deaf dog 🐶 I left the comment and I got some replies back also over 300 like 👍🏻 I was explaining how you can use hand signals like signs language. Example: no, sit, play, walk, sleep, eat maybe few more. At first, it be little hard but later your dog will understand better communication with you both. You can learn little few words with BSL British sign languages to your dog. I did with my cat Lacey. She knows few of them. She learned fast. Your dog loves you and smart! ❤️🤟🏻 your dogs are so adorable! Good Luck! 👍🏻😊

I love Ridgebacks so much!!! My boy is a RR mix - he was a handful as a puppy when we lived in an apartment, but since we moved to my house he's been absolutely perfect. Socialization was the key for him when he was a pup - it has made him a very chill and aloof guy, completely unbothered by just about everything (except abrupt loud noises 😆). He's definitely athletic so our favorite form of exercise is biking together. He trots along next to me as I bike. RRs are built for endurance running!

I had a dalmatian awhile back. Like the ridgebacks, they were bred to trot for miles every day with a cart or carriage. I read before I got one that they had A LOT of energy and I thought that just meant they needed to be walked once a day. Boy was I wrong!! These types of dogs need MAJOR stimulation and exercise!

it was like seeing our Astro during his first period at home from the shelter.
    same mouthing, same table dancing.
minus the food stealing, but plus a HUGE separation anxiety.
and he's hearing impaired too (but we found out only a few years later).
he's a dogue de bordeaux mix, with a history of neglect, and we got him when he was already 3yo.
a childhood friend of mine, a trainer who applied the same methods as Victoria, helped and guided us through the long journey of his (ri)education.
it was hard work, but one of the most rewarding experience we've ever made.
and the results have been incredible from day one.
now Astro is a happy, healthy, spoiled rotten 9yo canine role model 😎❤

We have two Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Their personalities are totally different. The older male is very reserved and doesn't trust strangers. The younger female is an extrovert and extremely energetic. She also figured out how to unlock some of our security doors if the key is inside the lock. Both are very intelligent and active. These dogs seek eye contact and hold the gaze. They read your body language.
They do very well with hand voice commands, combined with hand signals. The male weighs 50kg, and the female is 30kg. They seem not to know their own strengths.
They are wonderful, loyal, and eager to please animals once they are trained. They are as fast as lightning and need running space.

I have 2 rhodesian ridgebacks and they are both very well trained and very well behaved. But with rhodesian ridgebacks you MUST train them to a higher level then a typical pet dog.

My dog was like that too I had scratch marks all over me and mouthing me it would take like 15 minutes to put leash on because of all the jumping humping … now he is better with all the training …

I was attacked by two Rhodesian ridgebacks when I was in junior high and one of them took a huge chunk out of my leg. I needed stitches and my leg was bruised really bad for close to a month

I'm wondering, do other dogs in the family pick up on the fact that he's deaf? For this family or any other family in similar situation. Is it even possible to tell?

I got a 2 year old dog from a rescue that would jump up all the time. I was telling her no and down etc making her stop the jumping if she wanted pets... then I caught one of my kids tapping her chest yelling up up. Luckily my dog is super smart and learned she could only jump when invited to do so, and didn't just get confused and continue jumping all the time.

    • @deniseanderson2894

Maybe because he had a habit of mouthing? I could see the purpose of using the hands for signing/ signaling only (other than petting of course- but petting doesn't involve food either). Just a thought.
