Having had this printer from new and after warnings that toner was low it today said that Cyan was empty and so refused to print. We have had the printer for many years using it for occasional printing and so it seemed reasonable that the toner was empty, though I was still surprised that it was the Cyan that went first! I have not yet ordered any replacements but resorted to TH-cam to learn how to put new toners in and was lucky enough to have your video served up. I followed your directions and reset the Cyan and printing was restored. However after just a few pages it was all stop as Magenta was now empty. Again I followed your instructions but this time reset the Magenta and the Yellow as I noticed previously that both were marked ! The black still displays a healthy level so I am leaving that to naturally decay for now. So thank you for your advice which means that I probably don't need replacements for a while as I use the toner remaining . I now understand that a new black cartridge would have a greater coverage/capacity than the CMY cartridges. But I do have a question - now that the resets have been done on these colours and in due course the black how will the printer behave when the cartridges are genuinely empty?
Fantastic many thanks! I did this on my MFC-9335CDW which was barely a year old. In spite of having changed the black cartridge, the printer still wouldn't work due to it telling me "Change Black print cartridge". With the help of this video, I have now reset every cartridge and it is now working again thank you :-) I do realise though that once I actually need to replace all cartridges, I shall reset again so as to have some idea of real cartridge levels, or simply print until it fades then change and reset.
Wow! We needed to print some docs for our custom TV creation presentation and the printer stopped working due to low cartridge. Your tip saved us tons of time! Thank you so much!
Thanks man. Confirmed this works on the HL-3180CDW even though there's no fax capabilities. The keypad is still there - easy way to see the location is to shine your phone flashlight very close and then draw a pencol circle. Love the reset, love the color laser, and love Brother printers.
Thank you thank you thank you! You sir, just saved me a lot of time and money. I had replace my Cyan toner and continued receiving the replace toner message. This did the trick! Thanks again!
Your explanation was one of the best I've watched. Thank you for taking out the time to show everyone. I recently bought a smaller newer Brother MFC-L3770CDW and cannot find anywhere how to reset the toner levels for this one. Any suggestions?
Thank you for saving me a serious amount of (additional) frustration. This worked for our printer, sadly after we dropped a ton of $ on actual Brother cartridges... but at least I know the solution going forward!
Got another question. I refilled the black toner cartridge that came with the printer. I am under the impression that these are low yeild cartridges. So now when it prints, there's a black haze over the whole print area, but not on the whole page or margins. It's a word doc with the margins pushed back to 1mm on each side. I can see 1 mm area with no haze all around the paper. Why would a refilled toner cartridge do this? I replaced this cartridge with a new one and it didn't leave a haze. Thoughts?
This seems very useful. However, when I tried it, I brought up the reset menu once, selected a cartridge, but then pressed 'no' because I realised I needed to check whether I had a standard or high capacity one before proceeding. Once I had checked that I tried again, but now I just get some beeping from the printer when I try to select a cartridge from the reset menu. I don't get the yes/no options as I did initially. What is going on?
How did this save you TONS of money? I have had a low toner message for a few days. I had tried this reset a few times. Seems to do nothing. Now my message said change toner and the printer would not print. I reset it again like in this video. It still wouldn't print. I replaced the toner and it's now printing. What exactly is this reset doing? Why are there 3 options for the colors, std, str, and high yeild? I get what the high yeild means and the std which i assume is standard. What's this third option? Brother only sells 2 options in the color, and 1 in the black. So what's really going on?
Travis k sorry to hear of the problems you are experiencing. I reset my toner levels multiple time over the period of a 1.5years and the fill level always goes back to 100%. If you are not receiving the same benefit then you are doing the process improperly or your machine varies then what is in this video. Other than that I have no suggestions for you. This method has worked flawlessly for me.
All three of my toner colors have been showing empty, but there is plenty of black toner left, and as long as I remember to select "black and white" from the print menu, the printer had been working fine in black and white. But recently, for the first time, the yellow has a new warning showing that it is "extra low" compared to the other two colors, and the printer would not print, even in black and white. I followed your video and was ready to start celebrating when I saw that, even though all three colors now show "full", the printer still knows that it's out of toner somehow, and will not print, even in black and white. What other printer resets are available, if any, to tell the printer to ignore the empty color cartridges and print only in black and white? Thanks.

I have a MFC 9340cdw which uses the same trick for the toner rest. My printer USED to do this. I don't know what has happened anymore. I used to do this trick all the time to reset my toner. I just replaced all my toners and it can read all of them except magenta. So I have a new magenta toner, but I see keep getting the message that the toner is low on my device. Does anybody know why this trick doesn't function anymore on my printer? Anyone have the same problem? Is there any other way I can get to this toner rest menu besides the asterisk trick?
@@Theinkrefillexperts It took a little longer than expected but I was able to reset 2 colors (magenta and cyan) at the same time. For now what I'm printing seems to be as good as new in terms of color level

When they are actually empty the printing will fade and behave like an empty cartridge. You won’t get the message that they are low.
After so many "riddle me this, Batman" explanations...YOU actually explained it fully and plainly!!! thank you so much...
I hope you meant painlessly 😀
@@Theinkrefillexperts no...by using the word "plainly" i did mean...easy to understand...well done!!

It’s important to follow the video exactly. It definitely works.
Our Brother printer was "eating" toners, but with this trick the cartridge can be used for all capacity.
Glad you managed to find our video. It’s crazy to think the printer shuts down even when it’s really full !
Hello,
MFC-9330cdw 'cover is open. close the top cover...I know i have closed it but it still doesent work. What is the problem? Thanks.
Make sure nothing is broken or blocking the cover. Even something small.

I'm watching my pages come out completely unaffected by the supposed "empty cartridges". I've really had enough with razor and blades sales models.
