Way back in the late 80s when I was 12 years old, the idea of a war between the US and Soviet Union scared me so badly that I had nightmares of nuclear war almost on a nightly basis. My father gave me this book and read it with me, because to understand something means to fear it a whole lot less. It made all the difference in the world. Love you dad, Im not scared anymore.
Bless your dad. What a precious thing to do with his son. We are probably the same age you and I and I was fearful of the Russians from the movies and the books and the television news that I watched over my dad's shoulder, I knew that they weren't just some small country like Granada that we could easily deal with and have a fun time in. But that if we went to war we could possibly lose against them. I felt so scared for those those semen on the Navy ships. Who would be absorbing those kingfish missiles? And I felt scared for the army guys who were going to be eating those Russian artillery barrages and fighting for their life against Russian tanks. I knew that we had good equipment that I played in my video games like the Apache and m1 tank, but I knew we had a lot less of it. And that the Russians would have the first strike advantage because it's not our country's policy to do sneak attacks. A vivid nightmare of mine was of me in a log cabin on a vacation with my family, a loud noise happens outside, and an army general opens the door and crawls in and he uses his dying breath to say "Ruskies..." in a gruff voice and then dies

I've got Red Storm Rising and Team Yankee in unabridged audio book format and in paperback. I listen to each audio book a few times a year at least. Great books.
I was a young Lance Corporal assigned to Marine Barracks in Keflavic, Iceland from January 85 to January 86. I read the book while stationed there and I was impressed with his research. FYI there were approximately 100 Marines stationed on the island, not counting the embassy Marines in Reykjavik. We had a couple of Dodge double cap pickups, but definitely no Jeeps or HMMWV's. The Air Force replaced their F4 squadron with F15's while I was there.
I was in Somalia mid 1982 to late 1986. This was after Somalia and Ethiopia had exhausted themselves but had not signed a treaty. I recall a Somalia Major telling me he knew they'd lost when he heard his former Soviet counterpart on his comman frequency telling his Ethropian opposite number where his tanks where and where they were going. @Chilly_Billy
Waaaay back in the day in 1991 I used to read this book while playing 688 Attack Sub by John D Ratcliff on our IBM 80/286 PC. Such awesome memories this brings back!!!
I remember reading this book in HS cause my father pushed it on me. You're whole series of vids have made my mind dance back in like 2013 with how this all played out. Amazing content as always, cant wait to see whats next.
I love this series and your efforts to bring this book to life. It’s awesome seeing this stuff and hearing the music to go along with it. Keep up the great work!
Just one thing, Delay the "Splash Out" call until it has actualy hit the ground. the first "splash Over" is when the firing platform has calculated the impact to notify the call in platform to expect impacts, the "splash out" is when the call in platform has witnessed the impact, that follow up messages can come after this for adjustment or BDA
@@BobChanel Caught that also but BZ for the video. If that constructive criticism a bunch of retired Greenies can do, "You done good!! Give yourself an Atta Boy"!!
These videos are amazing! They bring the book to live in a wonderful way. I love how the old game Harpoon was an inspiration for the book and how the modern game DCS brings the book to life! Well done, @Fixedit
Another fine piece of work. Brings the book to life. I searched out the paperback edition shortly after you started posting these clips. I loaned it to a friend who thinks novels are frivolous wastes of paper. A reader of hard backed ancient history books. They were the novels of their day 500 years ago, give this a shot. He did and said it was brilliant. Especially the mention of what was the F119 back in 1984 when Tom Clancy published it. Keep them coming my friend.
Remember reading this book, must have been about 1992, the prospect of war between Russia and the west had receded but was still a recent memory, odd that 30 years later it's back....
NAVY 87-91 Coral Sea and Kennedy. I read this book twice. It was that good. But, you putting it to video and music makes it 100 times better! If they never make a movie I hope you cover the whole book eventually. Thank you for making these videos. Im always waiting for the next one!
my good friend who just retired as an LTC. was deployed in a pallidan group for 1&1/2 years... you got the shot cords and radio chatter fuckin' perfect according to what he told me!!! well done 👍🏻
When I get a FIXEDIT notification, I have to physically restrain myself so I don’t spoil the book. I’m excited to start watching soon as I am almost done.
3:07: "Shot, over" = I am firing my gun(s). Be prepared to observe where my rounds are falling and adjust them. "Splash, over:" My rounds will impact in ~ 5 seconds. Provide adjustments or declare end-of-fire-mission.
I read Red Storm Rising in 2022 due to current events. It's amazing how accurate the tactics predicted the stagnation in UA. RU tactics are the same between the book and real life with similar results.
After your channel is starting to read the book again I'm really surprised at how little battle action they're actually was in the book that was a lot of ASW was a lot of walking around in Iceland but there was very little in the way to do it the actual land Kombat
Personally the best part of red storm rising. Especially the part when the Iowa class battleship (I might be wrong, was it the USS New Jersey?) opened up on the Russians with the 16 inch guns and hearing the comment from the commander there saying “Mother of God!” lol. That scene always stuck with me lol
Love the AZ callsigns. There was a TH-camr called The Faking Hoaxer who's little vid'lets were copied in a movie called Gravity. Hopefully Hollywood catches onto your content.

Not to be a downer, but it _could_ still happen.
I was serving with the US Army in West Germany during the early '80's. We knew that war with the Warsaw Pact would be bloody and brief.
Understanding the devastating power of war machinery is what should have given you nightmares, ignorance is a bliss.

Red Storm Rising still ALIVEEEEEEE
Sadly more than ever before.

I remember reading the novel written by Tom Clancy a few decades ago it’s the best war novel ever written 👍

"Fire for effect."
Translation: do something awesome
Words Infantry wants to only hear on friendly radio nets.

This is awesome. The timing is fabulous. Its a brilliant escape from life at the moment so thanks for putting this together.
Man, if only audio books placed this much effort in having other radio effects and other characters' voices like this video.
A real banger of a video.
funny enough, after watching this series of video. I went to listen to the audiobook while commuting. Alas wasnt as exciting as FIXEDIT
Bro, if you want that, look for "Audioplay" those usually have fancy effects.

688 was a great game, I loved it. Spent many an hour on it.
Love these. For a nerd in the 80s, Red Storm Rising was the best book EVER. I'm so glad I was there at the right age and time to appreciate it.
As a former forward observer from that era, that'll do. Well done.
I don’t know how you do what you do, but I love it! Thanks for putting in all the time to make this and keep us entertained.

They need to make a movie.
2 or 3 movies
Mini-Series
Yeah it would have to be a miniseries. There's no way a single movie would do it justice
Been saying that for over 3 decades.
I love this series and your efforts to bring this book to life. It’s awesome seeing this stuff and hearing the music to go along with it. Keep up the great work!

i read this novel about ten year ago when i was 15, i became so obsessed with the cold war. I love how youve brought this novel to life, great job!

This might be my favorite sequence in this entire series. Please, do MORE.
Then explain to our comrades in blue that carrier aircraft can not take Iceland away from us, but their fucking Marines can!
There was always something of a desecration about having a major campaign/battle in Iceland. It's like having a war in Viking Smurf Land.
Thank you for doing these!
Thank you for another entry. I'm always excited when these come out and I get to listen to RSR like it's new again :)
As always, thanks for the great content.
Long gun Tuscon one one fire for effect 5***** 😎 even 5 mins was worth the wait looking forward to more 🎉🎉🎉
You knocked it out of the park again! I know you recently had some technical issues that delayed things, but the final product was def worth the wait.
I love these so much! I think I gonna go back a re-watch your other chapters this week.
Babe wake up he's posted another chapter
Hooray! a new episode!!

They say there are two kinds of soldiers: artillery men, and targets
If one doesn't move after firing, one can be both.

Ralph Peter's "Red Army" would be great too. Keep up great work.
Let's goooo
Definitely looks like "FRAGREP LARUM BELL" for days!
That little gun on the destroyer isn’t going to do much.
Clancy's 'Estate' should have pushed this for a mini series years ago....
Even with modern CGI making a mini series of this would be insanely expensive
Beautiful!
Tom Clancy really did his research. That's a legit call for fire.
@@andrewb325 🤣 that was some fan fiction by yours truly.
Though rumor has it he was the only civilian authorized to make a call for fire.
