I was always afraid to do highly detailed gold models. Coach coming through with the game WINNING plan as usual!
Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻
Damn - I watched your fyreslayer video which got me into fyreslayers - now I watched this and want to try thousand sons!
Your videos are amazing and take away the stress of painfully figuring out a scheme and leave just the fun and joy of painting - my fyreslayers came out amazing due to your video - please keep them coming you are the best coach out there!
Awesome! Thanks Max - I appreciate the kind words!
Dude thank you so much, you have a video for everything lol
Cheers! I try!
Brilliant as always!
Cheers Fred
Really good job, as always.
Cheers mate
Thank you very much! Love it!
Glad you enjoyed it
Starting my Thousand Sons army this week, bits and pieces and stuff is in the post. So what's the first thing? Check out your tutorial! Awesome as ever, thanks very much!
Cheers mate - I appreciate it!
Great video! My question is how did you mount the sub assemblies on your painting handle? It looks like you used some kind of mounting putty or green stuff, but is it reusable? Or do you put new putty on for every subassembly? I just wanna know because I am putting together a box now and was considering subassemblies to fix the headache I had on my last box of rubrics.
It's mounting putty - it is reusable - it comes with the redgrass games painting handle that I use. You can use blu tac but that leaves a bit of residue and likes to stick to the plastic
@@ThePaintingCoach Thank you so much! I would really hope to emulate that in particular to hopefully make it much easier!
No problem - it does really help!
I recently got in to Thousand Sons and trawled your videos for a vid on them. A day later and here it is haha.
It doesn't seem that there are many contrast centric methods for Thousand Sons. I have seen some Horus Heresy era efforts around though using blood angels red to make the red, then glossing it up for a shiny look. I'd love to see your take on this.
I'll probably do a group of HH videos when the rumoured new boxset releases
@@ThePaintingCoach Oooh now this I can get behind. I do find it interesting that Thousand Sons seem to have th fewest contrast centric paint schemes. The armour panels don't lend themselves well to it I guess.
True - there isn't really a suitable blue - many coats of aethermatic blue maybe
@@ThePaintingCoach I've seen one Talassar blue, one Akhelian green and one aethermatic blue, the issue being the method you've used here still gives the best results. The contrast ones still took touch ups, pretty sure using Thousand Sons blue, so might as well just go straight to it. I only consider contrast methods because I find them easier/ get better results because my skills with a brush are not great.
I tend to stay away from contrast on armour like marines as it pools - Juan Hidalgo is worth checking out - but the effect is achieved with a good deal of highlights
Just bought my first Rubric Marines last week, perfect timing or Magnus inspired Warp shenanigans ? Thanks for the vid
Haha glad you will find it useful!
I would love to see your take on castellan crowe cheers
If I get the model, maybe in the future 👍🏻
Thanks for the tutorial. Is there a reason you used Lothern Blue and then Blue Horror to highlight instead of Ahriman Blue? A lot of other TS tutorials I've seen used Ahriman blue, and then extreme highlight with Baharroth Blue.
I just prefer the result this way :) it's totally a personal choice
Comment for the algorithm, made it look so easy and it looks great. What gold primer did you use?
Cheers! Retributor armour from Citadel
How well does the Tsons blue work on a black primer? I’m painted an infernal master and planning on painting it
It's not too bad - will need two coats though
Hey! I am just curious how you make your miniatures in the first place?
Hi - I buy these from Games Workshop :)
@@ThePaintingCoach Thanks!
Вот это заебумба! Спасибо большое за видива, братик. Ты лучший 👊😍
Great work here! What paint brushes do you use? Paints seem to flow off them so well!
W&N Series 7, size 0 and 1
what did u the undercoat the model with?
Retributor armour spray
Make a mistake he said... where? What mistake? it looks perfect! lol @12:18
Haha cheers
Do I take it you connected the arms to the model with super glue first and then broke them off to paint them separately?
I didn't connect them to start with - mounted them on a paper clip
can you use Retributor Armor Spray as a Primer or did you use a premier before staying the gold
You can - I find it a bit shinier on top of black though
@@ThePaintingCoach oh really how does the black primer make the gold shinier rather than just spraying the ret armour straight on
I don't know the science behind it - it's just something I have noticed - it may well be that I haven't shaken the can properly when spraying directly on plastic or it was colder out 🤷🏼♂️
You can always try on a bit of sprye and see what you like
@@ThePaintingCoach appreciate the help i subcribed
Thanks!
That brush looks like it keeps a great tip. What do you use?
This is one of the Squidmar brushes - it's made by Davinci - also check out W&N Series 7 👍🏻
@@ThePaintingCoach I got a Rosemary & Co however I’m not thrilled it with to be honest. It doesn’t keep a great point. I know some people love them but I feel like I need something quite stiff that’ll hold a point and allow me to do fine lines like when you’re highlighting the blue.
Also, how did you do the green markings on the black gun casing? Did you drop white in and then put hexwraith flame on the top? I couldn’t see that you showed how you did that in the video
Yes that's exactly how I did it :)
Make sure your paint is thin enough as well - will help the flow off the bristles
How do you know the positioning of the arms to do them separately?
Hold them against the mini but don't glue them at the sides - just glue the hands and forearms
@@ThePaintingCoach you are an absolute gent, thankyou so much and please keep up the videos they are always amazing
No problem 👍🏻
Do you play the table top? Or just build and paint
I just build and paint at the moment 👍🏻
@@ThePaintingCoach thats the best part in my opinion and reading the books as well
Can you make a tutorial for age of Sigmar miniatures,or you are painting only 40k?
I have a few tutorials for them - Stormcast, Teclis, Sons of Behemat, Kruleboyz, Soulblight Gravelords etc - check out the channel - I have an AoS playlist
Thanks I didn’t saw them 👍
No problem - I hope you enjoy them!
hmm... guess there is all traitor legions now? Oh, no, there is three more... III, XII and XIV. Then this will be the whole collection).
Why EVERYONE loves to prime TS with gold?)
Easier to fill in the gaps than vice versa I guess - I did the opposite with Guilliman and regretted it
@@ThePaintingCoach 40k years to paint trim!
🤣
i think the highlighting on the blue armor detracts from the model. its too distracting for me
No worries - thanks for sharing :)
I think it really gives an otherworldly feeling to them, as if the warp was glistening off their armour. 👏🏻
@@ThePaintingCoach just my opinion, im looking at the blue highlights and not the overall model, its just what my eye is being drawn to. Thanks for all the tutorials :)
It's fine - I appreciate the feedback :)
But i only have a few :(
One is enough :)
