    Those mailboxes that she thought were a walrus were actually manatees. I grew up in the Northwoods of WI so I know that yes, all deer can swim. We watch them swim between the Apostle Islands along with the bears. Pretty cool.

    I lived in key colony beach for 10 years the keys are a beautiful place, so many islands to explore ...my folks owned several properties down there. Sold many years ago wish they had hung onto them. Love your content this really is a great youtube channel.

    A very enjoyable video. It had a real holiday/vacation feel to it, so nice and relaxed, and it was so interesting to see and learn about Florida Keys. The fish-feeding looked both fun and stressful at the same time, lol !! Those pelicans can be very intimidating !! Thank you both so much for a very informative and fun video.😊

    Geodescent dome construction.. the 'awesome' house by the little bridge, fyi. Great against strong winds, i.e. hurricanes & tornadoes.

    Nothing against your "dying small town" videos because those are very important, but they don't give you a warm fuzzy feeling while watching. This video was a lot of fun to watch because you two were having a nice time and it came through on camera. But if it was nice fun vacations all the time on this channel, that would get stale too. So I'm glad you show all of America, the thriving and the dying parts.

    • @JoeandNicsRoadTrip
      @JoeandNicsRoadTrip  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for this. I like doing "nice" places like this, but unfortunately people don't watch them. This video, for example, is performing very poorly.

    • @andrewward5891
      @andrewward5891 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the reason why not as many people watch videos of “nice” towns is because a lot of people do videos of vacation spots like the Keyes. Very few people go to dying small towns to do videos. Though I like both kinds of videos myself

      The places themselves shown in the video, you seem to have said, are not what might have triggered a "warm, fuzzy feeling" within you; but the pleasurable interaction of our hosts. I make the distinction because the Keys generally has become, for me, unappealing.

    Love your vid's. I got myself a ticket in Marathon Key once by this beautiful blonde smartass state trooper. I leaned on her car and she said,do you mind (get off my car)being the crash bar on the front of the squad. Forty min later, IT leaned on the back of my 68 Camaro and i said do you mind! Pulled me for loud exhaust,and then thought the car stolen hench the long stop. That's my Marathon experience! : )

    The wife and I lived in the keys for a couple of years back in the early 70's. Things are so much more commercialized now. The blue hole didn't have a walkway up to it with all the signs. I guess folks back then were smart enough to know you weren't supposed to feed the alligators. Back then Key West wasn't so commercialized and it was quite a laid-back place

    Welcome to East Coast Queensland. This whole area reminds me of the tourist type parts of Qld. Gold Coast. Sunshine Coast. End of last year I was building a huge deck on a waterway. For a million dollar home. Amongst many other homes worth millions. About 100K from my house. So I stayed there while working. One big goldfish bowl. Posers paradise. Tourist crap everywhere. Including boat trips cruising past us gawping several times a day. It was nice to get home to rolling fields. And cows for neighbours. The Keys is part of retirement central for the weather and the lifestyle. SE Qld has that sub tropical climate too. And attracts tourists like flies. The trade off for permanent residents is you are always on display. I'd rather talk to the cows.

    My wife and I were married in May of 1978. Our honeymoon consisted of a 10 day road trip in our VW from Atlanta to Key West and back. We took the Gulf Coast route down to the Naples, Fort Meyers area and across to Miami on the old two lane Tamiami Trail. Went on a snorkel boat at John Pennecamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo....awesome. Spent some romantic time at The Buccaneer in Marathon...camped at Bahia Honda State Park and ended up in Key West. Key West was just okay....way too hot and seemed that none of the bars and shops in the tourist area were air conditioned...just lazy ceiling fans.......felt like you were in a Humphrey Bogart movie. I would love to go to the Keys again...but I'd skip Key West.

      Back in 1974 we took our kids in an Open Road camper down to Key West. During the day we asked a policeman where could we park that night and he directed us over to a place near a beach. In the middle of the night there were the police with bull horns, ordering us to leave immediately. We did. We will never go back again.
