I am a solo bounty hunter primarily and a group pvper second. I am also strictly a foot mage, and (most) of the time a dagger/dex mage with 110-112 dex. My ratings were heavily influenced by that perspective. Rationale for the differences - Crawling hand in S tier - it is a utility spell for certain, and isn't used in most cases. However, when you do use it, it has an incomparable effect. When pushing an enemy group into a building and you secure some kills it can absolutely ensure safe looting instead. When bounty hunting as a solo, it lets you loot AoE kills from inside of buildings as well. I've also used to to snag loot from the risar dungeon when people cliff dove and the loot was just barely out of reach. It should probably be A tier instead of S, but I do love that spell a ton. Greater Heal B tier - It is mana inefficient, heals for ~2x as much as lesser, but costs 3x as much mana. As a foot/dex/dagger mage I need mobility and have to be more prudent with my spell usage. There are times when greater heal would be preferable to lesser, but you also wouldn't be wrong throwing a lesser. Walkers in B tier - I don't have the mana regen or pool to sustain them. If I could, I would use them, but they detract too much from more important spellcasting. Purify in S tier - Completely negates every single negative spell effect in the game. The reason spells like atrophy, benumb, leech, etc, are so low rated for both of us is strictly because purify is so powerful. Flamestrike in A tier - highest single target damage spell in game. If you're going to burst, do it right. It also highlights a person HARD for focus fire from a team. I can't fit it on my build or I would. Mental Leech in C tier - It has niche applications for bounty hunting- specifically when targeting someone who WANTS to leech you mana. For instance, friendly mage doesn't have AOE, but I do. I leech him and start auw surging the house with essentially 2 pools. Benumb mind not in F tier - there are some niche PvE uses and very very niche PvP uses. If you're focused by a veteran bandit caster in a pvp fight and you can't escape throwing one on it removes the threat. So niche that it doesn't warrant above E tier.
Good points on mental leech I forgot Ive done that several times as well. I just feel it doesnt even work half the time so its meh. Walkers all in B cause you dont use em? I tried to review taking all aspects into consideration, all builds not just the one im currently running. Overall, good shit. Thx for the comment.
Once you get the hang of death hand, it's so easy. Once the circle completes, and you're on target, it's a confirmed hit, you can literally turn and run away before you do the hand wave animation. It's so weird. I hate the timing of it. I run in combat mode so I go by feel of hitting the spell, cuz there's no circle in combat mode with fists out.
Thanks for the video, I love how you went over these! I personally like Ether Momentum now, but it *does* break when you go over a nodeline, same as Akh bond. I've been trying to make Death Hand work so I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that it's screwy!
Whoever is telling you that either momentum isn't huge is an idiot. It raises your speed from 800 to 1000, basically going for almost on par with most horses to literally the fastest movement in the game, the downside is that you're carrying boxes so you can't priestwarp, but for example going from meduli to MK I always take a box and keep momentum up because I have no idea what the priest ranges are. The old math for it used to be that since you have to stop moving to cast it and it lasts for 60 seconds, at 30 seconds you would catch up to someone who never stopped to cast and then the second 30 seconds is all speed gain, but now it lasts for 5 minutes so the value is immense.
Auw Surge is the most broken spell in the game. You can cast 5 of them before ooming and it can't be reflected. You can nuke an entire guild of Oghmium footies with 0 damage mitigation. His guild crutches on it to win engagements. He's high if he doesn't think it's S+
I mostly agree with your list, I wouldn't degrade any of the spells that you even put, but I personally would be Flamestrike to B. Death Hand to S And thats me from the future where now Earth Quake work as intented, would put into A. It essentialy guarrantess a death hand to you opponent and to use shock, maybe another death hand if the enemy reacts slowly. I would also love to put eruption into A tier if it werent for the preperation time of the walkers... It can be used both defensively and offensively And albeit I said I wouldn't degrade any of the spells, I personally would put Blind into F. As there is almost to situation where you want to cast blind instead of another spell, thoughs thats my opinion from the future, or rather the present. Great video!
Ur guides have been super helpful as a new player, wondering if anything major has happened to the spells mentioned in this tier list since late 2022? Again thanks alot for the knowledge u share here! one love
@@Devildog0491 thanks alot! cool that u reply so fast, i saw ur illithid build, but i assume its change quite a bit since elementalism was released, it cost lots of points, so its hard to choose magic schools as a new player.
I feel like you (and most players tbh) underrate corrupt a lot. It's arguably the best utility spell in the game. Single handedly counters potions/bandages on all characters, oghmir crackpipe, thursar lifesteal/regen, mounted archers and mages. I would put it S tier like on Diph's list
For finishing low targets (which is like 75% of offensive casting in group fights) tlash takes longer to cast than lesser heal so there's a good chance low HP targets will get healed before you land the tlash, in this scenario corrupt can also entirely negate multiple heal casts from multiple mages if the target doesn't communicate that they're corrupted quickly / the mages don't notice. I guess it's situational but if you have foot fighters there to swing I think it's usually better to corrupt
@@Devildog0491 Death hand does not knocks but it is what you will use after knocking down another player with an EQ. The combo: EQ, DH (1 or sometimes even 2), MP (at least this was in MO1)
also you're completely misusing mental leech, you're not supposed to use it on your enemies, you cast it on your friends so that you get insane mana regen and can basically freecast tlash for the next 60 seconds without going oom
The only way this scenario plays out is if im wallbanging and my friend doesnt have necro and they also have a big enough mana pool for it to matter. Ive used it this way several times. To use it practically in battle doesnt happen. My friends want their own mana, or they have none to share because they are a footie.
How do you control the walkers and tell them to attack someone when you summon them? I'm considering buying the game and have a friend that's already playing a mage that started playing but doesn't know how to use the walkers yet.
Earthquake is ASS tier. Lightning is more of an A maybe B tier because it not only is faster then outburst, it hits harder. And depending on location is pretty cheap both reagents and mana use. Almost all of Spiritism is a complete waste of time and skill points at this point. Mental projectile is the one useful spell. Lesser walkers have one other use you failed to mention. They make for great door blockers or disruptors when getting chased. You can drop one in your path and when it spawns it will be directly behind you. If they are chasing you in a tight area like the Jungle they most likely will run into it and come to a stop. Giving you time to make distance. Cleanse... LoL WoW player.
