Watch Part 2. You'll get the resolution to Part 1 at the beginning of the movie. I used to work in the movie theater when Karate Kid Part 2 came out, and that beginning sequence had the audience roaring every time. Part 2 is such a great sequel. You guys should definitely check it out as soon as possible.

As a bullied kid, these movies resonated with me back in the day. The interesting thing is, once I started taking Karate, they all left me alone. And it wasn't because I was broadcasting that I was taking it or anything. In fact, I had always hoped that the next time they came up to me, I'd surprise them and fight back, but it never came to that. And that's when I learned what Karate is truly about. The only thing that changed was my confidence. I no longer looked like a victim, so they stayed away. Just as Daniel responds to Mr. Miyagi's question: "then why learn?" "So I don't have to fight". To answer your question, yeah, bullies really do gang up on you like that, because bullies are cowards. They never go one on one.
It's a good franchise. Will Smith's kid is actually in the 5th movie of the franchise, and it's actually about Kung Fu, not Karate. 1-3 follow Daniel, the 4th follows another character. The TV show, however, is excellent. Worth a watch if you decide to watch 1-3. The others aren't necessary, though I have a soft spot for the Kung Fu Kid, since that's what I study now.

I had friend in highschool who knew karate, and that’s exactly what always stood out to me about him: He never advertised it, he never had to use it, he just oozed this indestructible confidence in situations that threatened to become violent - and so they never did. Of course he was just a mere mortal like the rest of us in all other aspects of life, but in those scary situations he was this low key super hero who just instantly cooled everything down just by being there. It was kind of incredible to witness actually.

Hi guys. The story continues in #2. Just a bit of FYI. The uniform is called a Gi (rhymes with me) also san is a show of respect after anyones name, it is pronounced like on. A little more trivia The word karate is actually a combination of 2 words. Kara meaning empty, and te (pronounced like tay) meaning hand. karate = empty hand. Sort of like another word we all know, karaoke. Again, 2 words together. kara means empty, and oke represents a short form of the Japanese word for orchestra. These words are both made up of shortened versions of the actual Japanese words. So I believe ???? there is Karate Kid 1, 2 and 3. Then the one with a female karate kid, and finally the one with Will Smith's kid. I am not a big fan of remakes (most of the time). Like True Grit starring Jeff Bridges (who I like a lot as an acrtor) trying to play a role made famous by John Wayne fell flat for me. Same with the TV remake of the movie The Music Man. The remake starred Matthew Broderick and it was a dreadful performance. You guys should check out the original from 1962 (I think). Anyway jusy a little data dump for y'all. Loved your reaction as always. Have a great summer!!!!

I studied karate for many years and this is by far my favourite film about the martial arts because it embodies what they are truly about. I would strongly recommend this film’s sequels Karate Kid 2 & 3. They’re both very good films that go deeper into the relationship between Mr. Miyagi and Daniel and reveal more about Mr. Miyagi’s past. After that go straight into the Netflix series Cobra Kai which picks up with the story and the characters 40+ years later and features the original cast at their current ages. It’s a great TV series and I’d love to see your reactions to it.
BTW, the “karate uniform” is called a Gi (pronounced “ghee”).

Could be great if they find a way to introduce her in the show as a sensei of miagido or something . . . Julie do know about daniel cause miagi mention it so she could be the one to make contact for some reason

The actor who plays Johnny also played a mean bully in the 80’s movie “Just One of the Guys”. The dark side of growing up in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, was that bullying was something that constantly went on - the philosophy was very Darwinian, only the strong are supposed to survive so that a certain level of bullying on weaker kids was often acceptable whether it was from our peers or from gym teachers/coaches, academic teachers, or other authority figures, sometimes even in the home. They believed that it toughened kids up for what they’d have to deal with in the harsh real world, especially since the boys were going to have to fight in future wars like their fathers had in their younger days. It was awful if you had a learning or physical disability or just didn’t fit in for socio-economic, race or sexuality/gender issues. The bullies knew you were different, & you had a target on your back. Thankfully, views have changed. I’ve noticed that since we no longer have the mandatory draft, the views of raising kids to be so tough have lessened, & we have seen the horrible long term effects of what bullying can do to kids. But obviously there are some pockets of these beliefs still lingering in this country. I see a wonderful level of compassion in the 2 of you, your students are truly blessed w/positive role models as their teachers.
