can anyone explain why the enemy picked karina on gold lane? was it to counter the marksman? enlighten me please
He could've been a jungler main so he picked Karina instead of a marksman..
But normally it's okay to not pick marksman on gold if team has a Roger, Polpol or Granger jungle...
They pick heroes like Ruby, Zhask, Julian or Harith gold...

There are some peoples say meta are “our skill”. Its right at some points, but the thing is if you want to bring a heroes is not markman to the gold laner, you need to know if your pick is gonna fit well or not. Roger - Harith - Zhask - Karina - ...... work because they are dominance in some ways at gold lane.
If you understand well and confident that heroes is good for that. You can create “your new meta”, skill based just rely on the lower epic rank.
