it has long been my dream to become a clinical microbiologist. this fall, I am starting my undergraduate degree program double-majoring in Microbiology and Immunology and Infectious Disease. I am honored to dive into such a diverse field, and hope to get to know some of these great people.
Can BSc of Microbiology be Clinical microbiologist ? Or I must be physician ( graduated from medicine school ) or study medicine to be Clinical microbiologist ?
@@tania38513 I did! I am entering my senior year now to graduate with a B.Sc in Microbiology. After that, it's on to grad school for a PhD in Microbiology.
I've been thinking about going back to get a degree for lab tech. This sparked my curiosity further and Hershey is where I go for my own labs. Nice coincidence!
Do it? I am retired from a hospital lab and did Micro for 35 years. I miss the mystery and what I call the Sherlock Holmes part of it. Looking at plates and trying to figure out what things are. I can sight ID many things. That comes with experience. I truly loved it.
I'm getting the idea microbiologists do a lot of swabbing, and staining, and looking at slides through microscopes, over...and over...and over again. Day in and day out. Really "exciting".
I was really hoping to show this video to my students, but I cant because they are not using safe lab practices. This video has great material but I am disappointed that ASM would put out something with bad practices in it.
Cassi - This is a comment reply (which I am not sure why it isn't showing here) from Mary Beth Miele in reference to tcox664's previous comment - "For tcox644 ... it actually is a safe practice. We don't recommend managing plates w/ gloves. Happy to provide additional insight if interested. David Craft Penn State Hershey Medical Center."
ya.. many Indian labs they are not use gloves...including me. before 25 yes ..but the sterilation..and washing hands...such precautions done..now youngsters accept their prevention..now I hardly recommend to wear gloves because of lot of samples..don't critisise such a small..event this huge lab knows its precautions.. thank you..
Hi . I m a pathology resident with a Medical Degree . I d like to understand exactly what s the difference between some one having a Md and a Phd in microbiology as a job in the usa?
MD's pass medical boards and can treat patients. Ph.D's usually specialize in a certain scienctific concentration and work in the field/medical lab or do research. Ph.D's can take medical boards with the ABMM and be on the same level as a Clinical Pathologist(MD) in the laboratory setting. This is what I've found through my research on these careers so far.
The starting background music is kinda similar to Tera chera song from SANAM TERI KASAM. I wonder who copied who? Or may be they have a copyright, just curious.🤔
I'm personally going to UF for a microbiology degree but I've had lots of family attend Penn State, as displayed in this video, which has a good biology department. I'd do research on good (affordable) undergrad programs and then see where that takes u
Hi, any suggestions for me? I'm planning to pursue a carreer in Virology in the future. Unfortunately, in my country, there are no universities that offer BS-Virology. However, there are universities that offer BS-Microbiology but these universities are located 100 km away from my residence and work. (By the way, I'm currently out of school because I need to work to support my family, I'm working in a call center company to support the studies of my two siblings and the financial needs of my family) I found a university near me and my working place that only offer BS-Biology major in Biotechnology, I'm not sure if this will be a good background for my virology career. And I'm still not sure if I can support my studies on my own. The reason I want to become a Virologist ks because I want to find cure for cancer, my inspiration behind this is my mother who was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Hi.... im studying microbiology final year.....i saw our experiment vedio very intrested...pls next vedio u will present to me...( isolation and identification of micro organisms....and the materials of microbiology lab....)
We did not always use gloves when handling bacterial culture plates on the bench. We did most all the time, but it was not required. When I started in 2979, we did not use gloves and mouth pipetted. I would never mouth pipette again.
Good evening sir , I said to you , you're Lobertiy is very beautiful and very good,I was really hoping to show this sempal pichare to my student in B.M.L.T. my college name is D.I.P.S college Noida delehi and D.P.M.I.,but can't because they are not using safe lab practices this so has great material but I am disappointed that d.i.p.S.coleg by mehendra Kumar verma (SD/PALOK BASU)and ,DL. Nober.10663 ,I live in babatpur Airpot varanasi ok thanks

Did you do it ?

The lack of gloves on those older techs haha
A dream❤️
Great for the Younger generation and Upcoming Research Oriented Teams from various Medical Fields.
Thanks dear Colleagues.

Really "exciting".
can somebody tell me the subjects of Microbiologist
wakeupscreaming what did you expect?
It IS really exciting!
I take it u arent a microbiologist ??
As a microbiologist... what isn't exciting about that! LOL.
Watching this brings back memories. Unfortunately I had to retire on medical grounds. I do miss being in the laboratory.
you where a research scientist?
I miss it too
Please tell me the name of the procedure
Can a person with a MS degree in clinical and molecular microbiology shift their line of interest to food ? ie: go into food microbiology?
Love the field.Hate working for a factory called Q---- Diagnostics
It’s all q diagnostics at this point
Why is that the only one? Lol
my passion, long journey never ends
is it mandatory to stop spreading bacteria culture on agar plate if we feel resistance or can we continue with smooth touches.
Kindly reply

Gloves are not safe practice, easy to forget to change and contaminate specimens. Washing hands is the better practice

Hey i want to know how can i practice clinical microbiology with indian md microbiology degree
Any good universities where I can go to study this?

Use the word prokaryote during an interview and you can skip university going straight to a lab.
this the best thing to khnowledge to understand micro and oother field lately this just according to miocrobs

Start with bachelors in microbiology or clinical microbiology
Can a phd microbiology teach doctor in hospital ? Answer pleade
No hair tie needed in the lab? That was kind of basic like having close-toed shoes while I was getting my degrees...
Wait is this is the same thing as medical laboratory technologist?
most likely since the medical industry is struggling for workers they have to change the name to include anyone with some type of a biology major….
Hi.... im studying microbiology final year.....i saw our experiment vedio very intrested...pls next vedio u will present to me...( isolation and identification of micro organisms....and the materials of microbiology lab....)
Yes
microbiology is an interesting career...
Yes absolutely
why is the lady at around 2 minutes in not wearing gloves!!!??? That cant be a safe practice.
tcox664 gloves carry more microbiomes than hands. You'll wash your hands more than you'll change gloves. Its standard practice
I think she has skin colored gloves on
where are those gloves at tho?
Gloves sometimes have more germs than your hands
Then the hamotology experiments...
The lack of proper PPE (gloves) 🤦♀️
Sir , what is the minimum salary in india after completing bachelor or master in microbiology ?
10k for fresher's
Very nice
Shout-out to 3 BSE- SCIENCE😊
Streaking a plate
1:05 gloves on
1:22 no gloves
They dont follow proper lab safety

Gloves On at streaking. Gloves off at colony observation. It's alright.
In a chemistry lab they might get cancer but this is biology a good old hand wash should do the trick
Working without gloves can put my opinion about professionalism of these people down? yes...
No gloves😷
ah dream
