- Tim has been visiting various trade fairs over the Autumn, and here he presents some of the newest items that he has acquired for his collection. From a mini leather strop with allows you to sharpen a disposable razor, to some new items created via 3D printing, a novel balancing act, a very elaborate greeting card, and some unusual art from Japan.

@@EggBastion It's actually easier to build it pre-made. Think about how 3D printers work, the link that joins 2 pieces is built first and then the plastic that locks it in place is printed over the top.

@@jwrs6292 There is no Japanese Independence day. There are some countries that celebrate independence from Japan though. The closest Japanese holiday would be National Foundation Day.

I cried when i seen the waves painting. Its one of my absolute favorites. I first seen that actually in a china wok i believe, or something like that while i was eating my pork fried rice, and it had koi painted in it. My favorite fish as well. So beautiful ❤️

Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Great Wave off Kanagawa, The Scream
It took me a bit for the Girl with the Pearl Earring, but I got the other two straight away. Weirdly I knew the first one was the Mona Lisa before he even pulled it back.

I could tell what all but the girl with the pearl earring was before he even pulled back but the great wave and the scream actually snapped for me like he said unlike the Mona Lisa, I think it’s just because the Mona is so well known and has been portrayed in numerous styles already

"The Scream" was the easiest for me to see.

Any one else getting those postcard art things instantly up close?
The paintings are all famous enough that it was easy for me to identify them up close
I think a lot of people got it. You only need a few key details, like the blue headband, the rising wave and the open mouth. As soon as you recognize those features the game is up.
Never thought about it before but 3d printing opens up so many possibilities to puzzle making and it's cool to see more of this featured on the show!
It will be very satisfying to see such postcard with Malevitch's "Black square"

Stropping safety razors helps a lot, but not as much as drying them thoroughly. Turns out that razor blade stainless still corrodes, although far less than normal steel, so the drier you can keep them the better. I think the record is well over a year on the same blade.

Keep your razor/s dry. Last ten times longer. It's not coarse hair that ruins the thin blades but rust on the fine edge/s which is very preventable. Dry your razor/s off after use and keep away from water when stored.

Maybe I'm just too familiar with pixelization, or I know my art, but I recognized all of the paintings at the zoomed in level.

The first thing is like a Wet Rock for razors
I think the recognition of the picture has a lot to do with how good you know the picture. Since "Edward Munch's 'The Scream'" left a big impression on me, I was able to recognize it even before Tim zoomed out. With Mona Lisa it took a while shortly before Tim saif what it is.
But I totally could not recognize the other two. From far I thought the thrid was must be a landscape. But if it really is "The Great Wave of Kanagawa", I have to say I didn't know that painting before. I also first thought the second one might be "The Thinker" from Auguste Rodin, but since this is a sculpture and not a painting, "Girl With A Pearl Earring" might be correct. I know the painting, but I didn't like it too much, so I am not often looking at it. :-D

I managed to figure out most of the mosaic pictures while they were still up close:
1: Mona Lisa
2: Girl with Pearl Earring
3: I have never seen that painting in my life
4: Scream

Strangely enough I could tell that first picture was the Mona Lisa right away before he zoomed out. But the others I have no idea. Maybe I'm not familiar with those pieces, not sure. Except I'm pretty sure the last one was scream
Immediately recognized the first picture, but the 2 others i have literally no idea even after zooming out. Which means i most likely do not know those.
Since brain has a really good ability to recognize things we already seen even if its not important to us, or we don't need to remember. Amazing how that works.
But yea the 2 other pics? No idea at all...

10:47 I got it before you even pulled out of focus, its the scream. Those colors are distinct.
I had to use 'Close Caption' (CC) to completely understand what Tim was saying. Surprisingly, it did pretty well! (which causes me to wonder... :)
I couldn't figure out the girl with the pearl earring until the very last zoom out. The white lines going across the black background in ways not consistent with the flow of the original painting really messed me up!

Is it me or do the postcard images still look the same at a distance no matter how hard You look at them ? I can't see what the f**k they are.
Try unfocusing your eyes a bit and getting them as far from the screen as possible. (The smaller the screen appears to you the better.) Also, if you don't know the paintings beforehand they're gonna be impossible to "recognize" but I didn't know the 3rd one and could still tell it was a wave in front of the sun.
