- Classic Game Room reviews BLOOD DRIVE for Playstation 3 PS3 video game console (also available for Xbox 360), a post-apocalyptic zombie-slaughtering automobile combat game. Drive cars straight outta Mad Max and Road Warrior in gladiator style duels against other rides and waves of zombies! Various arena style events like Zombie Roadkill, checkpoint races and "keep the skull" (or whatever it's called) keep gameplay tight and ferocious albeit repetitive after a while. Controls take a bit of time to get used to but work well once mastered and the battlegrounds themselves are moderately interesting and chock full o' zombies. I always wondered what happened to this genre... Twisted Metal, Vigilante 8, and Rogue Trip were some of my favorite games from the late 90s.
I think mainstream interest in Car Combat games died off in the early to mid 2000s. Sure, Twisted Metal still stuck around, and a few car combat games showed up every couple of years, but they just weren't being thrown onto store shelves like in the 90s. Even at the time of your comment the only car combat games around was Twisted Metal for the PS3, Blood Drive, Rage, and Blur, though Rage is more like a first person shooter with car combat features and Blur is basically Mario Kart with licensed cars.
@Drag2hand Yeah, but he's referring to a game - Vigilante 8. It's often just referred to as "V8" so saying Vigilante V8 is redundant.

Barely known, forgotten, tons of fun
cool game,rpg,fighting games and vehicle combat are my favorite videogame genres.
This looks awesome. I used to play Carmageddon and Twisted metal on PS1 and if the weapons have a good feel, this must be a good game.
How could you forget to mention the Carmageddon influence this game has?
This game is an updated version of a Playstation 2 game called Zombie Virus (in Europe). Also known as Zombie vs Ambulance in Japan. They took out the Survivors mode and made it into a Running Man/Death Race TV Gameshow type game. Zombie Virus though also works kind of like Dyter-7 for the Amiga/Atari ST. The People you save will make new stuff for your car.
Nice review. The guy at the beginning making the sound effects like an ambulance vehicle sounded funny. This game also kind of reminds me of RoadKill on the GameCube with a little bit of Cel Damage.
The "Vigilante V8" phrase consistently bothers. That's like saying Vigilante Vigilante 8. Oh well, the Blood Drive game looks decent, may give it a try.
Carmageddon mixed with Dead Rising, must be fun!
CGR reviews are the best. Since they do New,Old and don't concentrate on Multiplayer!

I miss Twisted metal. TM Black was sweet. I lost a ton of years playing Twisted metal 2 so these games will always catch my interest. With that being said..0:57 weee wooo weee wooo
i got this game yesterday its good to kill time, trophies dont seem to to hard to get. the issue with this game is your car flying in the air over every little thing. alot of these matches are timed and u hit a bump and go flying in the air and you hover there forever then u bounce around and explode it becomes a huge problem! then someone hits you and u go flying in the air again! thats my main issue with this game. and the turn radius sucks. limited guns u often cant kill ne1 cuz u have no gun
Looks nice. The announcer style is really like in Unreal Tournament.
Ahhhh, Carmeggedon. Win the race, take every other car out before the finish or kill every single last person on the map. And to the soundtrack of fear factory, I think it was demanufacture, i was in heaven. I put so many hours into that game.
@RyunSharp Hell yeah!! Carma remains my fav game, realtime damage and awesome physics!! It was the best for its days,.. underrated though..I miss those days.. good memories...

Carmegeddon was fun (& Twisted Metal was too) but I76 would be kick-ass nowadays...
Nothing will ever replace Carmageddon 1 in my heart.

True. Carmageddon 2 was the best. If they did a remake of carma 2 I would pay full price for it. The physics were so impressive for it's time! The handling was semi-realistic, it was a pretty tough game to master, but well worth it.
Seriously, in the first game physics were applied to each wheel individually, so if something pushed your wheels to the car, they hardly, or didn't turn. Which game does that nowadays?

I might have to give this a try. I love Twisted Metal, but at the rate those games are coming out, part 3 will take another couple of years.
@ignaciojork wouldn't be easier to install a virtual machine with win98 on the new computer? :) you can configure it however you want.
I like how people are bitching about this game not being original, but when was the last time a good vehicular combat game came out? Twisted Metal Black came out in 2002? Head-On for ps2 came out in 2006? So two games in a decade. I think it's okay to have a few more games like that.
@RyunSharp: Some of the powerups in Carmageddon 2000 were so disgusting I couldn't play the game after a while. Block heads? Stick people? Uggggghhhhhhhhh...
I've had my eye on this game for awhile now. the only good thing is that its probably going to be like 20$ before christmas so i can just buy me and my friends a copy of it :3

is this disc based or downloadable? also is it only multiplayer or is there single player?
If you have Dead rising 2 and u enjoy the Terror Is Reality minigame thinggo u may like this. HOWEVER, if you got bored of that feature quick then I would say to give this a miss. But it still looks fun and I will play it on Xbox 360.
They should have Blood Ocean by Dethklok playing in the background.

@ignaciojork they had to call them zombies in carma 2... back in carma 1 they were called 'pedestrians' :)) and didn't had green blood or shit like that. man, the society took the fun out of games

i really would like to know where all the tokens are... i miss one in "helter smellter", one in "strip" and three in "gauntlet"... i am quite pissed of cuz i would like to see the concept art gallery but i am not able to find them all god damn it! anyone help?
From the title I thought this was actually a game about a BLOOD DRIVE and you donate blood. xD
But does it have Local Multiuplayer, and when will developers remember that the purpose of getting a home console is to play WITH your brother or sister or girlfriend or whoever?

@SLRMC93 Yeah, you're right, but Carmageddon was definetly inspired by TM in my opinion. Never really played Carmageddon, but TM: World Tour is one of my favorite games of all time. Blood Drive, though, I'm not liking as much as I'd hoped. Anxiously awaiting the New Twisted Metal, though :)

Carmageddon is racing, TM is just shoot shit up, Carmageddon is about killing peds with just your car, while trying to reach the finish line, TM is about killing your opponents with guns, trust me I LOVE Twisted metal, and Carmageddon pretty much equally, but I fail to see how Carmageddon ripped off TM, but blood drive.........it's a pretty good mix of both, I've played it, it's fun, and I think it's a little underrated, but in the end its still a clone of two great games.

I remember this being similar to another game with cars and zombies which you could upgrade and put spikes on and that kind of stuff, could anyone tell me what it was?

I can do almost everything that this game does in GTA4. WITH, the cops chasing me. Runnin down folks in Liberty $hitty is Ohhh so satisfying.

@555reaper I like blood drive, and to be frankly honest I think its underrated, it was presented flawlessly, but I like TM, and Carmageddon much, much better
