PLEASE NOTE: We chose the shortest route possible to get to and from Northern Ireland because Jenny has suffered bad seasickness in the past and we didn't want Poppy our Westie to spend too long in the motorhome. The crossing took 2 hours and cost £367 return, which we paid three years ago. Poppy was completely unfazed by the crossings, which she spent snoozing in her travel crate in the motorhome. At the time of filming (08/09/2022 to 25/09/2022) although Animal Health Certificates are required, we didn't get one because no checks were being carried out on pets being transported to and from Great Britain and Northern Ireland since the Northern Ireland Assembly suspended checks in 2021. (reference: www.daera-ni.gov.uk/news/permanent-solutions-needed-pet-checks). Be aware that this situation could change at any time! No human passports are required because the UK and Ireland are in a common travel area, but it advisable to take them with you as a form of ID.
Totally agree with you, though it makes the land journey fairly long for us. We did come back via Holyhead this time. I use vertigon tablets (prescription) to cope with the dizziness and they work....
I make nothing much to driving a motorhome in the dark unless you have to, which clearly you did. Thanks again for the great video series. We have booked for Garlieston next year, we have never been even though we only live 80 miles away! Enjoy your trip down through D&G and wherever you get to. Hope you can come to the Borders next year and perhaps try our new campsite here!
We had an absolutely fabulous time at Garlieston when we stayed earlier this year. We were in the walled garden part. There's a terrific walk past the harbour and well beyond for dog's. The harbour Inn is very welcoming with great food and not expensive, even the little garage & shop on the outskirts wasn't expensive as I filled up our motorhome befor we left for Kendal.
Great to see Garlieston again and we had the same pitch as you, but back in May this year, great views & the food from the chip van lovely. We drove past the ferry on our way to Ayr.
Yeah seasickness sucks having felt it before. I sail with dogs too and always take them for a nice walk and then they tend to settle in the vehicle afterwards, thankfully... Travelled along the A75 a few times on route to and from the ferry ports..
Aww it felt sad as the boat was pulling out, glad Jenny & Poppy had a good crossing. That part of Scotland looks lovely. I still have lots of Ireland videos to watch so that will keep me going 🙂
Nice video. The background sounds on the move sound exactly like my Motorhome! Glad to hear you mention the “teething” problems of the C&MC website. Let’s hope they are , as so far a formerly frustrating website has been made worse.......
I could see that you were both sad to be leaving Northern Ireland, but you can always return some time. I was very interested in this video, as I know the Dumfries and Galloway area well, having lived there for several years, when I was younger. I’m sure my late Mum and Dad stayed on the Garlieston site, with their camper, many years ago. I can remember Wylie’s the grain merchants had a property at Garlieston back when I lived in Wigtownshire. If I remember correctly, Mum and Dad, sailed from Garlieston, to the Isle of Man. The surroundings are lovely where you are. I hope you enjoy your time there Bob,Jenny and Poppy. Take care.
When we were stopping at Garlieston we went to the Bladnoch distillery (most southerly malt in Scotland apparently) and ended up with a bottle after the tour. We then went over to the Bladnoch Inn for some lunch. I had Green Thai curry and without doubt it was out of a box (most likely a Marks & Sparks creation). It was ok but at over a tenner as I recall I felt I had been ripped off. The wife went back to the car without saying anything but toung in cheek I told them I was the Sue Chef at the Cafe Royal in London and that it was a poor show that they couldn't cook their own food and just microwaved ready meals and charged 3/4 times what they bought it for! I said Gooday and left...they didn't see the smirk on my face!!😁
I've really enjoyed watching all your adventures in NI. I'm sad it's finished, but I'm already looking forward to seeing what you get up to next. Thank you both for taking us along with you.
Jenny does a brilliant job as co-pilot, makes the journey so much easier when you're on routes you're not familiar with. Love the video, great experience taking the ferry.
Thank you for your videos of your tour of Northern Ireland Bob, glad you, Jenny & Poppy enjoyed yourselves & you're very welcome to return anytime, good to see Jenny & Poppy were fine with the Ferry crossing but it's annoying that dogs aren't allowed on deck, hope this changes in the future, looking forward to your next adventure.
Another welcomed ride along journey. The ferry look deserted, maybe still suffering the know-on effect from the earlier dealings. Really like the recent location. Stay safe and enjoy the travelling.
Hello from pitch 5, Mark and Julia. We were outside with willow the newfoundlad when you pulled in. Long time fans. Stay safe and keep doing what you do.
Can you make a bit more noise, I didn't hear you leave lol. I always thought it was starboard on the return journey👍. Enjoyed this collection of video's. Thanks for sharing
I hope you closed the gate after you left the site in Ireland. Very nice drive round never saw any of that in 1969 when I was serving out their. Things must have changed.
Loved your NI trip. I've recently read in another group that it's not so common for dogs to be allowed in places, which is a shame but I do understand that not everyone is a dog lover. The only time I've been across the Irish Sea was from Fishguard, Wales to Southern Ireland overnight. It was really choppy and, like Jenny, I don't travel well on choppy seas. But worth it because Ireland is beautiful. My hubby and I stayed at Garlieston, arriving the Tuesday after you left. We were on the bay front as well but thankfully didn't need to drive over the bridge. Great site and we thoroughly enjoyed the walks. You can carry on round the bay where you and Poppy stopped because the path ended; it takes you on to Rigg Bay, where they did trials for the Mulberry Harbour. and on to Cruggleton Castle (if you want a longer walk). From Rigg Bay you can go straight into Galloway House Gardens, which was used by troops during the war. We also had a couple of meals in The Harbour Inn, as well as lunch in the cafe. Both are dog friendly, which was welcome. We are certainly looking to go back there at some point. Broke our trip up at Delamere Forest, where there are some lovely walks.
Thanks for taking us to Ireland with you. Seeing the 20mph sign in the Scottish village remind me that they now have 20mph limits in every town or village. You are at the national speed limit then suddenly a tiny 20 sign! Even on main arterial roads. Supposedly to protect cyclists and pedestrians.
It was the ferry crossing that was bothering me with our 2 dogs ,I didn’t know if they would settle or barking at every bump or bang. I don’t suppose I will know until we try.😊
This was our first trip ever to Northern Ireland and the first time ever to the island of Ireland in a motorhome. If you watch one of the previous videos you'll see we took a short circular drive to Sligo and back. We'd love to go back to Ireland, but haven't made any plans yet
@@BobEarnshawMoHo yep I watched that when it came out, just curious if you were going to the Republic for longer period and when. Cheers for the reply 😃
As you leave your motorhome parked up quite a bit, do you use a high level of security devices at these times or just a basic level. We've got all manner of security on ours, but I'm just interested to see what more experienced motorhomers do. If you don't mind me asking 👍
We have tracking, physical locks like Clutch Claw, security camera and Caravan ID, a system to aid recovery if all else fails. Do a search on my channel for more details.
No, the Caravan and Motorhome Club did their own video, and promptly withdrew it. If they don't understand it, what chance have we got? It keeps changing as they test it on members!

A great advert for a beautiful part of the British isles. You bring back great memories of my many travels to NI. Thank you both .

Bob and Jenny, hope you enjoyed your visit to NI. You were a wonderful advertisement for our wee country.
Thank you very much.

We both came back with a cold, but better now thanks.

A pleasure watching you in N Ireland.please come back some day and enjoy more of what N Irland has to offer.
I am sure we will!
that little trailer you were following onto the ferry was bouncing around like anything lol

We are home now safely, videos are a week or so behind, thanks.
Hope you come back to our beautiful little country.
I have enjoyed this series in N.I. Thank you Bob, Jenny and Poppy.
You're welcome, thanks for watching.

Just love watching you and we take note of everything you say about places . Most of all love little poppy xxx
Great tour. Keeping the videos within the usual time frame must have been a challenge with all that beautiful scenery
Yes, it's hard to decide to take things out sometimes.
Jenny does a brilliant job as co-pilot, makes the journey so much easier when you're on routes you're not familiar with. Love the video, great experience taking the ferry.

Sad to leave Ireland really enjoyed the videos .👍Looking forward to your next trip .🐾🚐

They told us to leave them open, as other people will be going on the ferry. Thanks.
Very observant LOL

Thanks, interesting about the beach there. The path looked a bit rocky, and knowing I've sprained an ankle like that before, I didn't want to risk it.

Just give them a long walk before you sail. Xx
We were down there last year enjoyed it very much , how was Poppy on the crossing
Poppy was fine in her travel crate in the van
Where's m'breakfast! ☺ I'm looking forward to your next video to see more of that beautiful harbour & campsite! ☺
loved watching the tour whilst on the ferry did poppy stay in the van was she not allowed in other areas
Thanks, I've got a pinned post that's answering your question.
I’m struggling to find the directions also since the new system was installed. Really frustrating
Yes, they are there somewhere if you do a search and find the old website details, not on the new webesite.
Have you done or are you doing, Republic of Ireland? Cheers for the content 😊

So this ferry is straight on and straight off no awkward u turning / backing up on arrival for caravans?
Correct, drive on drive off.

What’s causing that bright blue dot on your wind shield? Oops, wind screen. First four minutes, upper left.
It's from the dashcam power plug, it was a really bright blue power light on it, I must tape it over!
Can you do a vid on the new web site
