Exactement à l'opposé de l'interprétation de ce prélude.

@@MusikPiratCH Rubinstein”s recording of his prelude is a terrible mechanical interpretation with no pauses . This is a much higher level of the singing a prelude has to have !
One of the more lyrical , expressive and elaborate interpretation of number 17 as it should be : passionate but pensive, doubtful and delivering ... can’t stand Argerich or Rubinstein “s mocking this piece by playing it so superficially, no phrasing no pauses no breathing ! Good for this pianist...
Cortot did a disservice to piano artists and enthusiasts of the world when he ascribed his 'Titles' to Chopin's preludes. Chopin probably would have disapproved. Chopin himself tended not to add descriptive titles to his music, just as classicists before him. Rather, when tempted to add 'after Hamlet' to his autograph of the op15 #3 g nocturne, he corrected himself and simply said 'let the listener think for himself'. He left it as pure art for the listener.
@@easygoing2479 I think the titles come from von Bullow, not Cortot. About the nocturne in G minor it's a clear reference to Ophelia's funeral in Hamlet Act 5 Scene 1. Nocturnes are in fact religiouse night services, just like Ophelia's funeral was during the night. It's just great to picture his brother lifting death Ophelia from the coffin and asking "did you love her" to Hamlet and he responds "I loved Ophelia, 40000 brothers could not with all their quantity of love" and then comes the religiouso choral in the finale. Chopin was just great in recreating that scene but then he just puts us in the dark, trying to imagine his riddles. There are also new syudies about Polish Maryan Chants in Chopin's Nocturnes. A religiouse person like Chopin did have to write religiouse music, his Nocturnes are his religiouse compositions.

Rubinstein’s rendering of this prelude sounds mechanical, with no breathing and knocking the bass in the last part . This is much more lyrical !
