Hey, that's cool. A few quick corrections, if I may. First, it was Hunyadi's dad that got the nobility, Janos inherited it. And as for his father, well, your guess is as good as mine. I liked your speculations, but you left one people out, the Cumans. Many of his family had Cuman or Turkic names, so the old man might have been one of them. Or of mixed heritage. Nice video, man!
Romanian nationalists went Hunyadi crazy here, starting to say that he was Romanian. First of all, lets clraify something. Lets affirm that his ancestry was Romanian. This is very stupid to affirm that Hunyadi was Romanian. But even thos who say about his ancestry being Romanian, are wrong. This is only Romanian nationalist propaganda. The reality is: His real father was emperor and Hungarian king Sigismund of Luxemburg. He made sex with a girl named Morzsinai Erzsébet, and gave her a ring (which by the way can be seen in the Hunyadi coat of arms in the crows peak), and told her to come to him if she will born a child. So Hunyadi was Sigismund of Luxemburg's illegitimate son. After Hunyadi was born, his mother Morzsinai Erzsébet, went with him to Buda, the Hungarian capital, prezented him to the king who gave her many lands and castles and convinced a noble to take her as husband. The nobles name was Vajk, which is a Turkic name, probably he was of Cuman origin. These all are written down by the Hungarian chronicler Gáspár Heltai from the xvi. century. Vajk had, before his mariage to her, also a son named John. So John Hunyadi had another step brother with the same name, showing that his father was not Vajk or how the Romanians call him Voicu, but the king of Hungary Sigismund. In that age, it was not that important. People regarded themselves after their religion or country. Wallachians in Hungary called themselves at that time "Wallachuhs Hungaricus". I'm half Slovakian and half-Hungarian but I decided to call myself a Hungarian - yet, I like slovakians as well.
Gábor Szántai I know their history I'm Greek and I know everything in the balkans There was no wallachus hungarianus of what you said There was Valahi and Rumâni Know you may asl from where I know Well there was a Moldovan Columnist named Grigore Ureche and in zis Chronicles he spooked about the brotherhood and ancestors And in one chronic he write that Stephen the great said 'the one Rumân country is controlled by pagans'
A long time ago, I was reading a Romanian History book written before WW2, and he was named _Iancu Corvin_. Also, in the Romanian national Anthem (lyrics written in the 19 century), he is also mentioned as _Corvin_. I don't know why he is called _de Hunedoara_ now days, but I suspect it has to do with the Romanian Communist Propaganda.
Is not Communist Propaganda, in 15th century writings you can find: Sigismund of Luxembourg refers to his father as Olach (Romanian). Pope Pius II writes that Hunyadi did not increase so much the glory of the Hungarians, but especially the glory of the Romanians among whom he was born. The French writer and diplomat Philippe de Commines refers to him as White Knight of Wallachia. Also based on his Heraldry is a high chance he was descendant from house Basarab of Wallachia. His nephew was Nicolaus Olahus, another Romanian reference.
@@Bogdan-uu5oe That would be the romanian side of the story but for some reason the rest of the world thinks and knows it differently Also in the 1400’s there was no romania for another 300-350 years So clearly he couldn’t be romanian

And i understand that, i do
I would do the same tbh
But here is just useless, he didn't even mention Hunyadi in his comment
szalard his father was not Sigismund it was a Romanian Noble, look it up
@David Kato same can be said for you gipsys
@@ivc3092 His father was Sigismund.
His dad was romanian, his mother hungarian
In that age, it was not that important. People regarded themselves after their religion or country. Wallachians in Hungary called themselves at that time "Wallachuhs Hungaricus". I'm half Slovakian and half-Hungarian but I decided to call myself a Hungarian - yet, I like slovakians as well.
Gábor Szántai I know their history
I'm Greek and I know everything in the balkans
There was no wallachus hungarianus of what you said
There was Valahi and Rumâni
Know you may asl from where I know
Well there was a Moldovan Columnist named Grigore Ureche and in zis Chronicles he spooked about the brotherhood and ancestors
And in one chronic he write that Stephen the great said 'the one Rumân country is controlled by pagans'

Gábor Szántai "Wallachuhs Hungaricus". Hahaha!
Good joke!
It probably just meant he was from hunedoara, as he carried numerous titles tied to that region.
Is not Communist Propaganda, in 15th century writings you can find:
Sigismund of Luxembourg refers to his father as Olach (Romanian).
@@Bogdan-uu5oe That would be the romanian side of the story but for some reason the rest of the world thinks and knows it differently
Also in the 1400’s there was no romania for another 300-350 years
So clearly he couldn’t be romanian
@@sawfishv6565 Romanians used the term Romanian to define themselves long before the country was created, the foreigners called us Vlachs. In an early 16th century in the first Romanian writing, the author refers to Wallachia as Țara Românească (derived from Terra Romanus and guess what is the short version for this). Is the same thing as Hungary or Magyar Land.

It does not matter his mother or father was what origin (by the way the most likely is he was a cuman), but he was a Hungarian lord, every single moment of his life was sacrificed to make the Hungarian Kingdom great and defeat the ottomans! So he was Hungarian in soul that is 100%! And of course he can be a hero for other neighbours as well as he protected them as well with all his act.

W vídeo we know for a fact he was not only Hungarian but Magyar
oh. so you are talking about iancu?cuz im romabian and.....he is romanian.he was borned in romania and he was a patriot.

His mom was Hungarian his dad was eighter Romanian, Walahian....hold up isn't that the same thing!
Wallachians are the same as romanians.
How can be the same when it's called differently ? Let's say someone was Serbian before territory of Kosovo but since Kosovo exist he's kosovan ? Don't be silly
@@ggggg895hungary because romanians from different regions were calling themselves romanians. So a romanian could have been from moldova, transylvania or wallachia but that didnt change the fact they were romanians. Like in the us someone could be from california or new york, they are californians or new yorkers but they are still americans
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunyadi_family
Well, most of the contemporary sources said he was vlach, so romanian...
You dont use dates often, so I am going to assume each of these historical figures, or events lived or happened in the 21st century
It's sad that so many eastern Europeans still fight over the ethnicity of someone who died 500 years ago. I'm an American who was born in Hungary, and I don't mind if Hunyadi was Romanian or Serb or Martian. He was a great leader for Hungary, and his son even greater. Yet his accomplishments were canceled out 70 years later when the Turks occupied half of Hungary for 150 years. Now his homeland is part of Romania, and Belgrade is the capital of Serbia. Who cares? We are all just people.
