with Dr. John Marciari, Former Curator of European Art and the Head of Provenance Research at The San Diego Museum of Art
Today's ArtStop will discuss Sofonisba Anguissola, one of the few women to attain notoriety as a painter during the Renaissance. Come here about her, and about the boy in the great green hat.
ArtStops are 15 minute, staff-led tours of one to three works on view. Museum curators and educators present these brief yet always enlightening and informative talks every Thursday and third Tuesday at noon.
An excellent presentation. And a really charismatic historian-Bravo!!
What an excellent talk. And I only learned of Sofanisba Anguissola earlier today.
This was a very good lecture.
This is a very interesting video. Thank you!
amazing dedication to the restoration and re-attributing the art work to the rightful painter. Have to respect the work he has put in !
Great talk. I wonder if any more has been found out since 2012 when this video was uploaded? The medallion certainly looks like Phrixus astride the flying ram... Thanks very much for this upload. :)
The child is very probably infante Don Fernando, Felipe´s III elder brother, Felipe´s II firstborn son with his fourth wife, Ana de Austria. The child died at the age of seven in 1578.
I'm struck by how similar the curator's features are to the boy 's in the painting.
