Recreational hockey is quite affordable nowadays actually.. if you can't afford 500$ for the season and some used equipment online that's your problem not hockey's.. you want your kids to play and you can't afford it, get a better job.. You want to talk rep hockey, yeah sure it's expensive, but so is any rep sports.. my kids rep football is almost 5 grand and there's 52 kids on the team roster.. Rep hockey is usually a lil higher then that depending on the level.. but there's half the kids per roster.. so even if rep hockey is 10 grand is still equals the same team cost.. but the difference is there's no Canada wide programs to supplement the cost of any other sports besides hockey. So again let's stop blaming hockey for our shortcomings to our children as adults.. because rep sports are expensive.. period.. Have you looked at the cost of competition cheerleading or dance?? It's much more then hockey and they don't have to pay for facility rentals usually.
I never played as a kid due to price so that is true but it also isn’t super prevalent at the youth level where I’m from in the north east or at least my parents didn’t get me into it at a young age. However 300$ for the season plus some used pads at the adult level is feasible. However hockey is becoming an elitist sports and it’s fucked up
@@ryanpowell5366 see that's exactly the right statement.. you didn't get into hockey because it wasn't very popular where your from and your parents didn't get you into it.. And thats the point I was making as an adult the cost for rec hockey is very manageable, but if and adult can easily afford that for themselves then they can afford it for their kids. My other point was that all rep sports can be considered "elitist" they are all thousands of dollars and only the best players and/or the ones most "connected" will get to be on a rep team..
I don't have the full subscription to Sense Arena but I still find the demo drills very useful. Using the goalie cannon mode is very helpful if I want to work on tracking and shifting towards pucks. It's useful for warming up my hands and mind before games and practices.
I'm obviously big on sense arena for warmups and getting those extra reps. SO nice to be able to do all of that from your living room too. Thanks for the shoutout! Cheers buddy
I think this is so cool and I think it can be very useful in some cases. I don't think it can replace actual icetime but good for ,as you say, coming back from an injury, time off after summer, just a warmup or for younger players that can't be on the ice every day. If that doesn't take off among actual players, perhaps fans would buy this once you can play a full realistic game with it. It looks silly af, but you're still a beauty wearing that 😂

Is Sense Arena worth all the hype, or a gimmick? New videos every Sunday at 10am eastern! :) Buy Sense Arena with code "TRAVSUCKS" ► www.sensearena.com/
I use it on my ODR in the winter when I don’t just want to only be doing skating. It works in the evenings when it’s dark and I put a couple of floodlights out, just not in broad daylight. In the off season, since we have 5 months without ice where I live, it’s a great way to get some extra reps in. It’s a great extra tool if you don’t have extra ice and real shooters.
although I am not a goalie, I can see sense arena being very useful to some players overseas. I love hockey, however, I live in England and therefore can only get on the ice 2-3 times a week for at most 1 hour each session. Also, as you can guess there are no outdoor rinks for even roller hockey in public. this would be very useful for players just tog grab some roller skates, find some concrete and go.
I've used it (only the trial) as ice time is difficult, as is travelling to/from the rink from where I am. It is a great concept. It's a warm-up machine, nothing more, nothing less. It's just to get your eyes and hands warm. Maybe with synthetic ice and your pads on it may be better. My biggest issue is the cost. It's $45 AUD a month for me... that's pretty steep IMHO. If it was $10-15 a month then maybe... or a one-off fee then it might be worth it. But at the current price point I don't think it is.
I think it’s an awesome idea as a former roller/floor hockey goalie. I haven’t played in five years but this could be a fun gimmick, but a monthly subscription fee isn’t worth it in that sense.
Seems effective for off-season training. Keeps your hand eye coordination, timing, and brain sharper than doing nothing. I use reflex balls and a pitching machine to keep my hand eye coordination sharp, but this may be worth a look. I'm definitely intrigued.
I have just recently heard about Sense Arena. I wonder how it has improved with tht Meta Quest 3. I'm avid VR enthusiast and been playing beer league for 3 years, 12 years of Roller hockey before that. I'm offense though. Ive tried VR Hockey and it was pretty bad. I think some mixed reality with coaching would be great for players to develop when they don't have a team to practice with on ice, since everybody has more important things to do.
The thing that I have always wondered about Sense Arena is if you can set up custom plays for it. I would use it as a warm up, but also to work on specific scenarios. Passes from the corner to the front, tips, and screens. Is it able to do those?
I got it last week to get better with faster plays and shots that I can't reliably get on ice with my people. I plan to go after Jr's next year and it's already making it more comfortable with more complex speed and shots
Oculus quest just had a price drop. I bought it years ago so it was a no brainer during their Black Friday sale. But I’m a player. It’s fun every now and then. I need to try the new version.
I had sense arena for bit after Xmas this year. Though it was cool and I do think it helped me in tracking as a beer league goalie I had so many offers to play on real ice that my body didn't really need the additional training. As you know seeing rubber on the ice has no comparable alternative and what I didn't like it only helped me with my hands. Not with my skating or my butterfly slides. I wish it had 2 more senses I could put on my shoes or something to simulate my pad positions. As you know most goals are still along the ice (I think). Also, I felt like the pucks were way to fast but that might be just my old body not being able to cope with NHL caliber shots. Just my 2 cents.
I've had SenseArena for about 8 months now, and it's really good right now, but just a couple of months ago it was terrible. They really stepped up their game recently
They would make a ton more money if they sold a flat rate package with like 3 drills for around $125 then sold the extra content for like $50 each. As of now I can’t afford the monthly subscription or drop an annual one considering I wouldn’t be able to do it often. So I haven’t gotten it. But if I was able to just buy content as needed I’d 100% buy this.
@@Travis_Ridgen yeah I remember when it was $100 a month which was an even bigger turn off. I’d rather drop $50 for additional drills instead of $100 a month and wait for new stuff or only just use 1 or 2 drills out of the entire program. So as of now they have $00.00 from me but it can be thousands over my life time if I can buy as needed and not a subscription
i remember ed belfour visited our practice when i was in youth hockey,, that dude had lightening reflexes, mean his moves was explosive ...for some reason in a scrimmage he didn't wear a helmet an gloves...that was shocking to see his reflexes was fast enough to catch a puck with his hand like it was nothing
had quest 1 so I bought it and played it for 2 days. They then they canceled it from the platform forcing me to cancel or buy a quest 2 soooooo I needed new ice skates, that i had to buy right before this and now they want me to drop 600 on this....its just too expensive and they killed us all on the quest 1. 50 off 650 is still a crazy amount of money for one game. i would just use it for nothing else. Don't get me wrong, I had a great time using it...for 2 days
I bought in when it was 100 bucks a month. It was and is an over priced video game. I also noticed even at the “pro” settings, the shots didn’t seem as fast as the shots I was seeing on a weekly basis in real life.
Did I just ask my dad who works at Northeastern if he could see if they could let me borrow it for a bit yes I did. I’d nu gonna say yes to me probably not.
How did you get it to work? Whenever I use it the net is massive, and shots seem to be going wide but then go into the net as a result. And pucks keep going thru my gloves.

Hmm.. Torn about this one. Modern goaltending is all about skating now. Reflexes are secondary. This addresses something that I feel is no longer a critical component to goaltending. Do I think it would still be useful? Sure but at the same time, the scenarios that present themselves will FEEL unrealistic because in almost every one, most goalies drop to their knees. Very rare to make a save in a game while still being on your edges. I guess your hands and tracking will get better but you have to balance that with how much the entire system costs (upfront and ongoing).
