  • Learn how to build a bird feeder out of wood to encourage birds into your garden. This step by step guide walks you through the process of making a bird feeder with bird table and house. Add outdoor paint to protect it from the elements, and also a metal hook to hang a bird feeder. Then sit back and wait for the birds to arrive!

I appreciate the simplicity you show in building this, just using basic tools. However - and this is not meant like criticism - I have understood that it's not good with bird feeders where the birds can walk among the seeds; birds perch and move on the feeder, depositing droppings that soil the food and feeder. Droppings mixed with the birdseed could help transmit diseases among birds.

Straight forward instructions thanks for this easy build, However where possible paint all bare wood before assembly!! And on the feeding base its a good idea to have edging with gaps at the corners to drain away rain and after washing the platform!!Or as in my feeder there are half inch holes, The roof supports are critical in my opinion as size determines what birds visits your table as a rule of thumb the higher the supports the larger the birds, Which is a nuisance as my preference are small singing birds such as Robin's, Blackbirds, and all the tits, Pigeons, And Magpies can literally take over and hoard the feeder for hours denying all other birds of food, I hope for anyone of thinking of building there own bird table finds my tips useful!!! 🤔😉🇬🇧👍

Thanks for the simplicity of the plan, the better half approached me yesterday and wants a bird table in the garden, was planning on spending quite a lot, now I have a load of old fence posts and pallet wood so I am going to make one, but might be fancy and turn my roof supports a spindles for chairs etc, but will follow as closely otherwise, I hope to not have to buy any wood for the table, and hope it doesn't fall over, sheers it has given me the idea now...

You should have drilled those holes before drilling in the screws. Drilling holes will stop the wood from splitting. I

Hi, I'm hoping to make one of these and gift to my kids' kindergarten. Can I please have the lengths of posts, etc I've downloaded the plans, but it's tricking to work out the total post length and volume of flat material. I'm hoping to do this in the next few weeks as part of NZs brid count. Please help 🙏 ❤

Hello, thanks for your message and sorry for the slow reply. Great to hear you are wanting to build a bird table. The length of the main post you will need is 1.5 metres x 75mm x 75mm . Then the board you will need is approx 1.2 by 0.3 metres. You'll need a thinner post 2.4 metres long x 50mm x50mm, and lastly a plank of wood 75mm x 1 metre. Hopefully that helps. The measurements should be on the second page of the instructions but this should give you the total of what you need. Hope it goes well 😃👍
