Just adjusted my hb cs24 wraparound bridge. So pleased as I’d never come across these before. Action is very low, no buzzing, and intonated perfect. Thankyou so much.
Sometimes with a wraparound bridge, the "knot" on the string lies on top of the bridge and pokes your hand when you are palm muting. To avoid this, you can clip the ball end out of your old strings and put the new strings through it. That will move the pointy bit back just enough.
Another suggestion might be to loop the strings around the bridge the other way around, such that the strings take a full turn around the unit. Results in less fiddling around with spare pieces of old guitar strings, but may be slightly less convenient when taking the strings off again. Naturally, this would only work well if the bridge unit has sufficiently recessed holes for the ball ends of the strings.
I’ve just bought an Epiphone LP Jnr which I love. I love it even more now I have had the courage to adjust the string height! Thanks for a useful and straightforward video.

I just purchased a Les Paul Special with P90's and a Wraparound bridge-To lower the action-In which direction do you turn the Bridge screws-Counter Clockwise (to the left) or Clockwise (to the right). Subscribed! Thank you for this video.
A little late here, Michael, but just to clarify, turning those bridge posts clockwise will lower your string height; counter-clockwise will raise your string height.
Thanks so much man! I got a Indonesian PT wildwood se 245 that I love, but the intonation has been messed up since I got it. This video showed me EXACTLY what I needed. Thanks again, man.
Thanks for the help wanted the Epiphone les paul special with wraparound an needed the info on setting it up an u helped me before buying one. Going to order the Pelham blue soon
I bought a Gretsch G2215 P90 with this bridge system and they fell out of tune every time. The movement you make at minute 4:19, on my guitar is very noticeable I put it horizontally it seems as if I were pulling a vibrato lever and my guitar doesn't have it, is that normal? I 'm thinking this was a not deal. :(
Thank you so much for this video. I have a cheap bolt-on Les Paul copy, but when it's set up and new strings are properly wound around the tuning posts, it sounds beautiful and rich. So what if it's not expensive wood, or doesn't have an expensive brand name on it? I always go back to this video for a refresher whenever it's time to put on new strings and test if adjustments are needed. Thanks again!
Very helpful video, much appreciated. As someone who is not new to playing but new to setting up guitars, if the strings are loosened, then how do you test the tuning? Do you make an adjustment then re-tighten all the strings? Hopefully this is not too dumb of a question. Thanks 👍
I got a Harley Benton CST/24 and it's got the wraparound bridge. I bought a brand new and I got it in a couple days ago. It's making a buzzing sound on the B and G string at the 10th fret and I want to raise the bridge up a little bit. The two small screws that are on the back of the bridge for the low E and high E string for the intonation do you need to loosen those up first so you can raise or lower the bridge.
Kris, Question. I have a 2021 Epiphone Les Paul Special and want to put a fully adjustable bridge on it to be able to fully adjust the intonation. I do not want to have to pull the anchors out and possibly damage the surface of the body, so I need a replacement bridge that the the original locking studs will be usable or the the replacement locking studs will fit the original anchors. I have read numerous reviews on sellers sites where the bridges were not usable because of these issues and the purchaser also did not want to have to pull the anchors out to be able to use them. I have no desire to purchase a bridge that is not going to be usable and be stuck with it or buy randomly returnable bridges hoping that eventually one of them might work. Any suggestions on a particular bridge manufacturer for this guitar? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks, Dave
Hi I been wanting to get one of these guitars, the Custom Shop version. Then I saw a video that scared me away from it. It was talking about that the bridge doesn’t fit snug on the post , so when the strings are under tension, it actually tilts the bridge up and throws the intonation off. Can you comment on this ? It’s the only thing holding me back from buying this guitar. Thank you.
I love my 2 HB guitars. I have the PRS style semi hollow with tree of life. When it came, the left hex screw was completely stripped out, thus I can't adjust my intonation which is off out of the box. 😢
May I suggest that if one is using a battery powered tuner ... be sure to tune with a NEW battery! LOL Wasted way too much time today with a weak battery. Just my 2 cents worth. Thanks for your site. It is very helpful and informative.
i just got an lp special, totally turned without loosening because i didn't check out any videos first. i don't think anything is wrong, but i'm glad i didn't do anything else lol
Kris, how about a video putting some light at the tremolo / bend problem on strat type bridges? It's really annoying have to choose between tuning to use the tremolo or to bends. What's your approach to this problem?
I have a Harley Benton SC LP Junior, which I love , but I cannot get the bridge low enough. I notice that the posts are not all the way down to the surface of the body. I will try to tap them down further, but may need to replace the bridge. Which bridge should I choose to be sure it is lower than the H B bridge. I am experienced at guitar building and set up.
You are lucky that your bridge sits well in the studs. In 2022, I bought a US made Gibson SG Special and It came with studs, which left too much space for properly holding the bridge at zero angle. Instead, the angle was so big that the strings left the bridge before reaching the compensation heights. I bought some TonePros studs that allow to tune the space for the bridge. It was an easy repair and now the bridge sits well at zero angle and the compensation works nicely - after the proper distance tuning you have described in your very helpful video. Only I do not understand why Gibson sells new guitars with such crappy studs?
Are the 2 screws on the end supposed to be all the way out when you set it up? Mine came with them screwed in halfway, so I just left it like that when I set it up, but it seems like having just the ends of the screws as points of contact makes it more unstable as opposed to having them all the way out. edit: it's a tonepros bridge
I have just bought an adjustable wraparoud and notice the post holes on the guitar are at a slight angle, will an adjustable saddle wraparound work or do the post holes have to be level for that kind of brdge?
So Kris, when you’re measuring the string height, I see you measure from the top of the fret but do you measure to the top, middle or bottom of the string? Thanks
Hey, always the bottom of the string. That's what gives me the exact distance to the top of the fret. And that's what matters in terms of playability and tension. Cheers //Kris
Hi, i've got question. I turned with the screwdriver at the maximum, from the treble side. And i'm at like 1.9mm. Far away from the usual 1.2mm. What can I do ? What should I buy ?
Own an epi sg special p90 with a wraparound bridge. Would love to replace the bridge with a higher quality unit with adjustable saddles but am a newbie and unsure about what will fit this and the measurement information that is required to order a replacement. Its all a bit confusing for a novice. Great video!
Would it ever be a good decision to use the bridge from a SG to replace the wrap around style bridge for the Les Paul junior? They look very similar am working on a junior at the moment and I happen to have an extra SG bridge setup is the dude better off just keeping his Junior bridge? Thanks a lot for all the content and great videos
Just did this on my sg buy got same mesurements some how, it was just over 2 ml on the low E 1.7 on high E. Intonation was spot on all strings but felt like finger was hitting the d string bending the g. Is that a medium action? What height measurments are for low medium and high actions on both e strings ?
Did you loosen the strings for the intonation adjustment? If you keep the strings under tension that usually messed up the thread of the two little screws. If you detune the strings you can try to fully turn in and out those screws to test them. If one gets stuck somewhere it's probably bent and needs to be replaced. I hope that helps. //Kris
Hi Kris, I have a dumb question : let's say my guitar is tuned in E and the intonation is spot on. I then decide to tune it to C# for example, will I have to redo the intonation ? Thanks in advance
Yes yes yes, absolutely yes. :) Thicker strings intonate differently so you need to readjust things. There are guitars (bridge types mainly) that can't be adjusted for extrem strings/tunings. You have to try it out and see where the limit is for your guitar. Cheers! //Kris
Hey Poo, it should be doable. You have to position the Bigsby precisely to have the strings centered and running in the right angle. That's the same on all other guitars too, not only on the Special II. This licensed Bigsby should work on that Epi: thomannmusic.com/harley_benton_parts_bigsby_lic._b50_chrome.htm Cheers! //Kris
If the guitar is built right, with the fitting neck angle, yes. Easy. If not, impossible. Don't worry, I never had any current guitar in my hands that had a "wrong" neck angle. That's mainly a problem of a few of the earliest LP Juniors built in the 50's. Cheers! //Kris
Just found your video. You made a pretty big mistake by intonate the guitar on a lying position. You shoud never set up your instrument on the table. Set up in a playing position.
Nice video m8 ! You are doing a great job ! But no matter what .... wrap around bridges suck big time They are the worse kind of bridges and that is not even the worse part ! The worse part is that with time and because they pulling force of the strings is way up the bridge becomes a lever and it starts compressing the wood inside the 2 holes while the bridge's position slowly shifts forward messing everything up. If i ever become a dictator these bridges will be banned and erased from history and memory and i don't need to tell you what will happen to the ppl that by accident invent them again ! It’s the kind of torque dentists apply on a sick tooth, in order to facilitate extraction. There are however one-part stud mounted compensated bridges on the market that are not wraparounds, and that produce only a fraction of the rotational torque. Google Dorian LRQC bridges. You are spot on with regard to the studs leaning headsides over time, on account of compression of severed wood fibres in the post holes. 50kg of sum string tension exerted on threaded studs sticking out of cylindrical bushings crushing the wood fibres in the post holes, add some serious angular torque to the already serious rotational torque going on. But what is worse: the torquing, the levering, and the crushing of fibres never stops. It progresses. Slowly. Again: check out Dorian bridges again: they come with flat-fronted bushings inserted at a 2° back-angle. There’s however one problem with the Dorian LRQC one-part bridges: they are invented by a woman.
