Its a true statement. Im 37 and started playing goal this year for pick up hockey. I took one professional lesson with a goalie coach to turn my image from noob to someone who has been playing for years. Its amazing even with probably close to the same shots being stopped and goals prevented that people noticed I'm playing better cause I look the part. lol...
I have a similar problem with some of the kids I work with. The difference is they "don't look like a goalie" because they aren't sliding on every pass, making "athletic" saves, or doing just moving a lot in general. They stop the puck fine, but head coaches like the kids who look like they see in NHL highlights.
Look good, feel good, play good. I'm 32 and back just before the pandemic wanted to get into beer league (pandemic ruined that and I havent had the drive to go for it) and I didnt just go to the gear store and buy the standard. I went full custom CCM P2's because it would have been the same price anyways and it looks sick af also bought a 2nd glove thats Brians and that is the best glove I've ever used. Do love me some Warrior sticks though. One day North American development will have legit goalie coaches so dumb ass head coaches arent scouting goalies with no knowledge on the position and spewing out nonsense. Buy a Brians glove they break that shit in the factory for you if someone is really concerned about closure.
WOW _ WITH COMMENTS IN THIS POD NO WONDER KIDS< OOOPS PARENTS FDON”T WANT TO B A GOALIE _ SO HE ?SHE ARRIVES AT THE RINK TO WORK THEIR ASS OFF & they’re rejected cause they have used equipment that doesn’t look like a goalie - no wonder again c anada is in the black hole on goalie development - I was trying to listen in to get the occasional assistance for my game - problems /solutions different approaches, etc your discussion here sucks
That couldn't be further from what they were saying. They were saying if they don't "look" like a goalie - i.e. they don't move like a conventional goalie/play like a conventional goalie that they should look at changing the gear. And he is absolutely right. And get down to brass taxes, as they grow/develop as goalies, they will need to change it all up again. I was a huge fan of Vaughn V9 while I was heavier set and not as fit/flexible and I can't stand them anymore. I've switched to a set of True 20.2 because I can make use of the shape/stiffness much more. oh and 100% on the glove thing - hated loads of gloves, loved the brians optik 2/ made a V9 work but was never a big fan, then completely fell in love with the 580. There are so many gloves I just can't catch with and a couple that I can't seem to miss with.
Reality is if you can't afford some nice looking gear, you're probably not paying AAA fees. So it doesn't matter. The pod routinely has called out gear snobbery. And they're correct to point it out it is a bit ridiculous. But it's not changing.
@@richarddean8042 but my rebuttak to that is WHO is making that decision ? Coach? Goaltending camp Instructor ? Parent? Who what is a conventional goalie - Hybrid? standup? ( virtually non existent) or conventioanl is now BF? I play old timers (75YRS 5YRS AT GOALIE) have been able to grasp the equipment for eliminating stingers & be safe - Brian Heritage gloves & Warrior GT2 chesty, BAUER Pro knee pads, CCM 4.9 & Warrior R/GT2 pads , lastly now seeing costs directly I think it is should be responsibilty of “clubs” to look at subsidizing goalie equipment (they may be already) as annual costs of academies, schools, clubs are astronomical for players - put that on top of $3-4k for gaolie equip & their ca - if the goalies want personalized gear then that’s their ? parents buck. Otherwise generic graphics & within several clubs in a city the gear could be rotated to incoming (sorry for comment length)
will chime in on the next pod to gain more knowledge on the goalie careers, past & present

I'm curious, what's the strong aversion you guys have with Warrior gear?
