It’s not the fish sauce that you need to worry about (nam pla) it’s the “marinated fish juice” (ba laa). Nam Pla is a favourite of mine, a nice combination is jasmine rice (khao suay) plenty of fish sauce (nam pla) mixed in so that it slightly colours the rice and add a soft fried egg. OMG I am making myself hungry! Peasant food but hearty, you will like it, honest!

Tony, nice video showing traditional Thai funeral. I’ve been to this type of service for my Khun Yai mother in law. It stroke me more than any other funeral service I’ve been to. Even though Thais love their mother, sister, auntie, father, brother, uncle … they send them off in good fashion with a knowledge of afterlife. Thanks for this video that shows your viewer a Thai prospective about passing into the future.
Interesting how much instruction I receivedwhen I attended two Buddhist funerals about 10 klm SE of your Phang Khon home there was so much different in dress, ritual and participation.
Rudyard Kipling described that fish paste as something served which should long ago have been buried. And yet some westerner said it was the best thing that could be eaten with rice. Odd.
FYI pointing is not considered polite, my Isan girl taps my hand and say mai mai LOL, Weddings are more fun, usually go on for days but so do the funerals sometimes lol, got to love Thailand. cheers !
I remember attending a funeral in the village back in 1973 they went cut down a tree cut boards and made a coffin the monks came and set with the coffin about two while everyone else partied drank alcohol played cards had fun on about the 3rd they took the coffin into fields set on logs and set it a fire. But it was a party it seemed then Thais wouldn’t spend money to keep you alive but spend all they had to get you to the after life
Interesting to watch your videos. Haha, Thai cannot pronounce "r" instead they phonic it as "l". I always chuckle when I hear them and it is so cute. I notice you don't have much interaction with Pui's father. Pui's parents appear to be decent people. They have accepted you to board with their daughter in their house on the assumption that you will eventually marry their daughter. This surely must happens as it is a face-saving thing for Thai culture especially in a rural community setting where everyone knows everyone else. You are being smart setting your financial parameter with Pui from the start and take control of your MONEY YOURSELF. This way you will soon find out whether she loves you as who you are not what you have. I think she is a decent lady from your videos. She takes care of you well. If you feel she is the keeper. Then , I think house build will be next . It will be interesting for you to do a video of how you met her. Hope you don't mind my comments. I speak with some personal experiences being married to a Thai lady and had been where you are now but currently live abroad.. I am not Thai but I speak Thai and understand Thai well. From watching few of your videos, I can tell you Pui's mother is cordial and fond of you and she has not degraded you in her language. All the best to your Thai journey;
The video made me realize more how much I have become my Thai as well as a Buddhist to the point perhaps I no longer fit in with foreigners. My first funeral sitting with the monks and chanting sanskrit in tone reverberated my body and heart ( should note a farang does not attend this part so was looked at by inquisitive monks as I made merit and served). Thank you for this video and your perspective 🙏 PS . I see some inappropriate comments, I can add after two years the relationship changed to a very warm feeling of commitment . Take care 🙏
Great video and commentary. Lot of old people picking up those gift bahts.

We know why you love the dogs back home there so much .....
Great video, I also agree that would be a great if you made a video on how you and Pui met and how you became to live with her and her family. 👍

I hope people are drinking beer at my funeral. That's the way to go out.

Two Americans from Houston and San Diego, in Thailand talking about politics. I guarantee they're Trump supporters.
