as a 24year old in 2023 i can say nothing compares to the brilliance of nick cave and I can only hope to create music as brilliant, one of my biggest influences.
I've seen Nick Cave play in St Kilda quite a few times at venues that no longer exist. The last time I walked along the beach afterwards as a huge thunderstorm came in. I sat on the Esplanade and smoked a whole pack of cigarettes (the speed in Melbourne back then was cheap and top quality) while I watched. It was awesome. I will never forget.
Nick Cave is a supreme story teller and his use of language is his great gift. He never sounds like he just "makes up lyrics and music on the spot". I think he takes great care in choosing just the right words.
Totally so much music feels kind of empty even if it sounds great. Some though write lyrics that actually feel like a window into something. I love interpol, elbow and the national for the same reason.
This is the best song off one of the greatest albums of all time, The flow to Cave's lyrics are amazing. Why don't we ever hears songs like this on MTV or the radio!?
I saw him Oct 6th at DC in a small club. He was fabulous. Very high energy and connected to the audience. One of those few special moments which I can count on the fingers of one hand over the past 45 years of attending concerts
Been listening to this gem of an album today Sure helps a long day at work He’s Nick Cave, they are the Bad Seeds ... goddamn they are awesome Love this tune
I remember seeing Nick Cave at the Trade Union Club in Sydney in the late 70s & 80s great memories still listen to all the cds at least Nick Cave got off drugs and straight after Tracy Pew the bass players overdose drugs were everywhere in Sydney & Melbourne then especially heroin not that I can talk I had the same problem for years it’s a wonder I survived also
I saw Nick cave and the bad seeds live at the hammersmith appollo last year we got on the front for and he was awesome so much energy i love the way he tailors his shows to the audience. In paris it was so much more relaxed he sat at the piano for most of the show.
"Here comes Alina with two black eyes, she's given herself a transfusion She's filled herself with panda blood to avoid all the confusion" best line ever
Besides being a tremendous songwriter and performer, amongst other things, I've always thought he also had a much underappreciated gift for comedy, as evidenced by some of the lyrics. Now he's taken it a step further into visual comedy. I don't know what most people would do when their hair starts thinning, but I'm guessing that it wouldn't be to grow a tache like that. God bless you Mr Cave, god bless you.
Mr cave is a legend , a wordsmith that oozes cool... Only a handful in the business , Shane McGowan is another .. You have to live life to get to this standard of lyric...
it may sound a little weird, but this song reminds me of my hometown on a rainy summer day. just sitting on my porch listening to this and a cold stout to enjoy the day. i really miss my hometown and its temperate weather in summer.
ALMOST 30 YEARS WITH YOU AND EVERY YEAR THE HONOR IS MORE.YOU GIVE US THE STRAITNES AND BEAUTY AUSTRALIANS HAVE LIKE SO MANY.YOU TOUCH IN YOUR SONGS ALL PEOPLES ARE.MY RESPECT TO THE BAD SEEDS,LIKE I SAID.GOD BLESS YOU.
“These nights are endless, and a man can sleep through them, or he can enjoy listening to stories, and you have no need to go to bed before it is time. Too much sleep is only a bore. And of the others, any one whose heart and spirit urge him can go outside and sleep, and then, when the dawn shows, breakfast first, then go out to tend the swine of our master. But we two, sitting here in the shelter, eating and drinking, shall entertain each other remembering and retelling our sad sorrows. For afterwards a man who has suffered much and wandered much has pleasure out of his sorrows.” ― Homer, The Odyssey
The dude named Iron man....the man of steel....wow how i admire Nick for everything what haopened to him and he is still here becouse of us all 🥺🥺❤️❤️❤️❤️
Oh, have a day off. It's about a cat house and it's ten times more interesting because of that than some high brow, bloodless incarnation of old soot. Stop trying to ruin raw, genuine human experiences with academic ambien.
Yes it is Will self, One of the greatest writers of our time, in one of the greatest bands of our times videos.. Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Truly amazing
Such a wonderful song, almost blase pub rock on the surface with lazy hand claps, and then oh a hypnotic groove and clever clever but self mocking lyrics and a discordant wail of amplified violin in the bacground. I love it for all this, but mostly it's so groovy. and the deliberately bored disinterested video and ridiculous clad Nick just emphasise this. What a band.
Oh, there he is :D Yes! I totally love his way of writing songs and the whole content! Every song could be a whole novel. And especially on More News From Nowhere I have the feeling that the song never ends, which is really awesome. I don´t know any other songwriter who has a similar style.
Memories of driving to my job at night through the old part of the city, by adobe houses under mercurial light. Always listening to this song and some others by Nick Cave.

He does. His process, he says, is to write the lyrics then craft the music around them

Nick Cave is the rarest who represent the creativity still in the music business if there is still "music" business :)
